We visited the Hoover Restaurant in the hotel for a very nice Sunday brunch. I had an omelette, fresh baked muffin and a mimosa - all for jus $8.95. The meal was tasty, service excellent and we enjoyed the ok- tidy Gold Rush Erik arp here.bbbaked muffin

We love this place despite having some flaws. We come every year for the constitutional day parade. Hoovers restaurant was excellent Chester who is 88 years old provided entertainment in the restaurant it was fantastic. The staff at the hotel and the restaurant were just great. Can't wait to come back again. The parade is outstanding also.

Stayed here last night, and loved it. If you're looking for something 5 star, this isn't the place for you. There is so much character and history bursting out of this place. There's so much to look at, and literally a piano around every corner. The women who assisted us at the front desk were helpful, courteous and gave us... More

This hotel was such a disappointment. From the outside it looked like an old time authentic hotel. It was likely more authentic than we were hoping for. The carpets and wallpaper looked as if they have not been cleaned never mind changed since the 1800s. The room was overwhelmingly dusty with old fabrics and furniture, the AC didn't work properly,... Thought it would be fun to stay at a historic hotel. No so fun at Nevada city's national hotel. We checked in and got a sweet facing the street. At first glance it looks old and quaint. The old furniture had a pulse tree that was Well worn there was wallpaper peeling off the walls and a few scattered dust... More

First let me start by saying that I love Nevada City, I grew up here and raised my children here. Then I moved away. I thought I could come back to "My town" and have a warm welcome and a pleasant stay. I was wrong. I booked room 20 on purpose and when I checked in it was cold and... More

Its beautiful on the outside and in bar & restaurant. Room old dirty and not up graded since maybe 1970's. Blankets were worn w holes, room smelled as if carpet never cleaned! It has so much potential! I've been wanting to stay there for years. If they get new beds and linen, I would go back!

Read all the other reviews and trust us. "I'd rather sleep in the Car" & "Pot smokers...everywhere" and "Needs MAJOR refurbishing" pretty much wraps up this night for me, too. If I had a car, it would had been a better choice but was stranded without a ride out of town. Smelly, nasty hallways with rumbled old, tattered carpeting throughout... More

We visited the day after Christmas. After we checked in, we headed to our room to put away our luggage. Our room was quite small, which was not a shock for an historic hotel, but also quite filthy. The tracks for the sliding glass door on the bathtub were absolutely black with mold. The bathtub itself was dirty and rust... More

Inspired by the Hallmark movie "The Christmas Card" I accompanied my sister on a trip to Nevada City. Thinking it would be quaint to stay in the historic hotel my sister booked at the National Hotel and take in the Victorian Christmas event. The lobby was quaint and inviting until we climbed up the creaky stairs. We noticed peeling stained... More
