Taking a day to sightsee in Murphys, CA, my sister and I had lunch at the Murphys Historic Hotel. I have never been disappointed with any meal I have had there. It is in the center of town, and has curb parking, or in the lot behind the hotel. The hotel is an historic landmark.

The aroma wafting up the Main St. sidewalk from the nearby Murphys Historic Hotel & Restaurant helped me make a quick decision:: Dinner here & now! The Veal Parmesan Special was sold out. Blackened Mahi-Mahi was topped with a mango-avocado relish & served with coconut wild rice & vegetables. One of the oldest continually operating hotels in California, it was...

We chose this hotel because it is right in downtown, walking distance to the playhouse we were seeing a show at.The Hotel bar was rowdy and rocking at 7pm.We choose to skip it and the bar full of dudes getting smashed. They were still at it when our show let out, and continued, loudly until 2 am.Our room was noisy and the shower...

Ive been to this place a handful of times. We got here during the dinner rush but we were seated and served in a timely fashion. I got the ribeye and it was outstanding. The server was very attentive and made great suggestions. We ended up staying to check out the night life. The bartender Brian made an excellent grey...

Some might consider it "old" or "run-down" but the truth is this is a gorgeous example of an old-west saloon/hotel that is a great place to eat and have drinks! I did not stay the night but know that this is a blast from the past and a must see if you're in the area.

This is another restored Gold Country hotel, rather like the City Hotel in nearby Columbia. My husband and I didn’t stay there overnight, but we had lunch there as we passed through. The lunch fare consisted mainly of several types of sandwich, but they were substantial (we had turkey with chilis and jack cheese). Soup (we had French onion) and...

Very disappointed with the restaurant. It took our party of 6 adults 45 minutes for our breakfast order to arrive. Not much of an apology and food was fair. Cool looking outdoor space but not worth the wait.

great break, off the beaten path, on a long drive down route 49.It sits in the center of a tiny but charming little gold rush mining town. I expected Fes Parker to walk off the front steps. Now I know why Hollywood loved westerns. California was just full of all this history right at their fingertips.

Our room was in the rooms off of the patio. They were fine for our over nighter. The Building and grounds are really cool. Friends had a room in the old building on the street with a balcony you could climb out onto...

After doing a bit of research, I've learned that everything about this hotel/bar is haunted. IT'S FREAKING AWESOME!! The room was quaint and historic, obviously. I would come back here just to have a beer and enjoy the ambiance of place. I highly recommend this place, if you are into history at all! ENJOY!

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Murphys Historic Hotel is the longest continually operated hotel in California. The Hotel was built in 1856 and we try to keep our nine historic rooms as close to that time period as possible. If you are to stay within the Historic Hotel you are without T.V., Phone, A/C, and of course a bathroom... but how often do you get to share a shower down the hall? You may bump into a ghost while enjoying a little piece of history. We also have twenty modern hotel rooms that have been improved more recently with new T.V.'s, Beds, A/C's, and Windows. We do have plans to remodel all bathrooms but Rome wasn't built in a day. We also have a full service restaurant which is open for breakfast, lunch, & dinner 365 days a year along with a full service saloon. The Murphys Historic Hotel is also within walking distance to over 20 different wine tasting rooms and our community park. While you are here please let me know how we are doing. We hope to see you soon!Sincerely, Brian ... more   less
