We were on our last stop on our Route 66 tour, without a hotel booking on the Memorial Day week-end,which was a real challenge finding a reasonably priced hotel in the Santa Monica area. However ,we were delighted to find a suite at Jolly Roger Hotel. On arrival,we were greeted by a charming and very helpful male receptionist. He gave us a suite...

I stayed here one night after Coachella (and not showering for 4 days) so I really just needed a good, cheap place with a nice shower to rest in. There is nothing too special about the hotel (it does have a hot tub) but you get what you pay and I was happy with it. The only negative was when...

I stayed at Jolly Roger April 2013. I had an unexpected accident and broke my ankle in La Jolla and drove up to my next reserved hotel which was Jolly Rogers in Marina Del Rey to get close to LAX. Two attendants Dan and Terry went above and beyond to help me. When I returned home I reflected back at...

This hotel is near the marina and beach in Venice beach. Beds very confortable, wifif works well, and free parking. Donna, on front desk when we arrived, was terrific, she helped with local restaurant knowledge, supermarkets and activities. The breakfast is served in the cafe on 2nd floor and was reasonable, fruit, cereal, breads and coffee, tea, juices. Good price for...

I chose this hotel because it was a short distance from the Los Angeles airport. Big mistake. I travel often with my teenage children and always keep this in mind for safety reasons. Jolly Roger was the worst value for my money in a long time. The hotel does not look anything like the pictures it portrays. It is rundown...

Upon reading your review I was surprised that you would describe the location of the hotel an "urban" area. The think that the home owners of the Million dollar homes surrounding the hotel would would not agree to with such a term. Regarding the "hooker" in the elevator I don't understand how you can judge a person by the way...

I am sorry for the situation with the stained sheets. Upon further investigation I found that the front desk rep who gave you the sheets had taken the sheets from a stack that were to be given to the local shelter. All of our linen are washed in 190 degree water and detergent and the housekeepers are trained to inspect...

Initial lobby appearance was unpleasant (except for the cute little waterfall out front). Greeted by staff that was very un-personable, and the manager was on only lobby computer when we needed to get on to try to cancel our stay. Hall and elevator wreaked of smoke, and rooms smelled of mildew. Rooms were also very dingy and in major need...

I am sorry to hear that you had such a bad experience. But first of all I don't use the computer in the lobby and the last time I did was two weeks ago to install much needed updates which took approximately 30 minutes. I don't recall anyone asking to use the computer or inquiring if I were the manager....

Thank you for your comments. I actually couldn't agree with you more regarding the cereal. I have offered different cereals in the past but it seems that the ones the general public seems to prefer the ones with the sugar. We do of course offer the low sugar Cheerios, and Rice Crispies . Stay healthy!

Anywhere around Marina del Rey & Santa Monica is expensive. Jolly Roger is a lower cost than most, and have availability where other hotels don't. Positives: fast enough wifi internet connection to have skype chats from your room. Washing machines for your clothes provided on site, affordable too. Quiet fridge that's empty in your room (as opposed to crammed with...

Staying in Venice

Neighbourhood Profile
Venice
Venice has always danced to its own beat as the epicenter of bohemian culture in Los Angeles. Along the boardwalk there are street performers and local craftsmen selling their wares. Original paintings, souvenirs, and jewelry are on display. Crowds of visitors marvel at the sites while weightlifting enthusiasts pump iron in plain view, and skateboarders do their tricks around the skate park. All of it happens under the warm California sun with sprawling views of sand and sea. Heading east, the main drags of Abbot Kinney Boulevard and Main Street are lined with boutique shops, some major retail stores, art galleries and restaurants. Here the ambiance is more relaxed and upscale than the frenetic boardwalk area. Venice is a mostly walkable (and certainly bikeable) neighborhood, full of areas to explore.
