Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

No fridges in rooms...that should've standard. Can't take leftovers home...can't shop for anything. ONE ice maker in whole hotel??? Why doesn't each floor have one? Stayed in room closest to construction and no discount....unreal noise 8am.

I was excited to stay here when I looked at the pictures on line. Sadly when I arrived the place looked sad and outdated. The lobby was nice and the side area was nice but the pool area and the wing we stayed on was super old and needs some TLC. Our bed had two wells in it and was old and lumpy. The slider door was or appeared to be single pane glass and we could hear all the commotion down by the pool area ( we were on the fourth floor). The elevator shuttered badly and almost dropped us to the last floor. There is one ice maker (on the first floor) so that was fun. The bathroom was great and the TV was new. The staff were super nice and helpful. I look forward to trying the place again in the future once the construction is done and the place gets a facelift.

I just spent three nights at this lodge. They are renovating and I received a room that was over looking the construction. I asked to move and they accommodated. The second room was better but was in close proximity to a courtyard. At 2pm, a couple of men decided to “chat” loudly for an hour. The next morning, I was awoken by union protesters at 6am with megaphones. The present rooms are comfortable (really they are) but in great of updating. Amenities are bleak but there’s plenty of shops, grocery stores nearby.

The place is under construction, but that aside many things were missing for a room going for that price. There was no fridge and no microwave. The only ice machine was on the first floor of this large 5 floor building. Also, the keycards kept getting demagnetized. Happened more then once. Room was okay, empty feeling, minimal furniture. Clean enough. Great pool. Good staff. Probability won’t stay again though, room just wasn’t that comfy.

Room Tip: Make sure to ask for a room that is in the courtyard/pool area. Noisy otherwise.

It's been a while since I have been to the Sportsman's Lodge Hotel, so I was hoping for the same quality... unfortunately it was a complete disappointment. Why are places that aren't resorts charging resort fees? When the parking lot is half full, why would they charge for parking? Why put quest next to the construction area to. Be woken up at 7am?? These are reasons why their reviews are so bad. First of all be upfront with your fees, don't hide them on the web site. Secondly be upfront about the construction, and maybe mention it when we are checking in! Waking up at 7 was not part of my plan! All the the way around it was disappointing. Some advice I would give is instead over changing with extra fees, maybe try being upfront. It would help fill the hotel with more guests.

We stayed two nights in adjoining rooms for family of five. Renovated and somewhat funky. Huge heated (in January) pool and hot tub. Free shuttle to universal studios. Staff friendly and helpful. Not very busy for our stay.

I loved the Sportsman's Lodge Hotel which is a historic spot in a quiet corner of the Valley. We came midweek, when it was rather empty - just in order to get away from it all. The hotel has a great coffee shop and restaurant and has a fun atmosphere. By night, the bar was nicely empty, with only one interruption to prove it: around nine pm, a well dressed couple turned up and ordered a drink - and then jumped right into the pool fully clothed! It was hilarious - and totally awesome, and no one seemed to mind, which I thought was really cool. They were still there when we turned in. Kind of set the tone for this great place! I would totally come back. Great place. I would totally recommend.

Great rates for a hotel off Ventura Blvd. Lots of restaurants/bars within walking distance. Hotel is old but being renovated. My room was nice and clean. A little noisy and the internet speed was a little slow. Very nice staff. A great stay for the $.
