I visited the Hollywood historic hotel for 3 nights last week with my wife for a short surprise break and must say we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. On arrival we were greeted by Michael one of the managers who proved to be a friendly approachable guy only too willing to help, as was the lady (sorry I didn't get your name) on reception the following day. The hotel is full of character and a real reminder of days gone by. The rooms were spotlessly clean and more than ample. Their bar, the Edmon, is, as some others have described, well looked after and serves excellent food. Michael recommended the burgers and he was right! Delicious! Location wise? I suppose it depends on what you want to do. For us it was perfect because the hop on tour bus picks up a few minutes away from the hotel just past Paramount studios. The starline red bus picks up on North Gower Street and the big red bus picks up a little nearer on Vine St. They tour in a loop to all the usual tourist places. I.e. Sunset strip, Beverley Hills, Rodeo drive, right out to Venice beach and Santa Monica pier. Be aware though because the traffic in LA is horrendous. The 14 mile journey to Santa Monica took 3 hours each way! So plan on that if you're only on a short break. Much nearer are Sunset strip and Rodeo drive at about 5/6 miles. We booked Uber to take us to the Rainbow bar and grill, which cost about $35 in total . Any motorhead fans or fans of hard rock in general will know the attraction of this place! Of course Paramount studios are literally 60 seconds away from the hotel as is the entrance for the studio tour. In the opposite direction, and if you're a Laurel and Hardy fan, you can visit the iconic Music Box Steps in Silverlake. This can, if you don't mind, be walked to. At about 2.5 miles each way its doable if you're fit. Directions are easily found on Google maps and are easy to follow too! Just a few pointers about breakfast. Turn left out of the hotel and walk up Melrose past Paramount for about 7 minutes and the astro burger bar serves all the usual breakfast stuff. Very nice too! In terms of restaurants, again turn left and there are plenty to choose from if you want a change. If you want a chemist and as you turn up North Gower St you'll find a big supermarket with all the usual amenities that you find in the UK. If you haven't booked the shuttle for airport (LAX) journeys, be aware that if you need a taxi you'll need to factor in that LA traffic! Its 17 miles to the airport from the hotel so you'll need to be setting off a good hour at least before your earliest check in time. All in all a good hotel with nice staff who are only too willing to help. Well done!

Lovely Historic Hotel , very good location, don’t listen to what people say there are plenty of bars and restaurants in walking distance , turn left out of hotel and walk 20 minutes past the studios there’s plenty of eateries, turn right walk to junction turn left there’s plenty around. There are bus stops everywhere cheap fares , the hotel room was nice and big cleaners in everyday , comfy beds , bathroom was fine , we had the view of the Hollywood sign from our window .

We chose this hotel for the history and the location. Its a nice old place but certainly not overly flash. We were comfortable, the room had a view of the Hollywood hills and sign, and the staff were friendly and helpful with suggestions. The Edmon restaurant is attached and there are plenty of options within walking distance. It has the added bonus of being close to the Paramount Studios where the Hop on/Hop off buses pass by, making it really easy to get about the sights of LA.

We stayed in this property for 5 nights and we found it convenient for the things that we wanted to do in L.A. Pros: - reasonably priced - there is a gas station across the road where you can buy basic necessities - there are laundromats within walking distance couple of blocks from the hotel - walking distance to paramount studios - rooms are reasonably sized with a small fridge Cons - hard to get to the hotel during rush hour due to traffic . Give yourself plenty of time to get to the Airport . - not a lot of places to eat around . We uber eat most nights - Lifts are very small . Can only accomodate approx 2 person and 2 luggage at a time. - the hotel provided blankets are very thin . It can get very cold at nights in LA around oct/nov - I don’t think its close to any train station . We uber most of the time

This hotel is older and has been very well kept. You can see the Hollywood sign from the hallway window, and I think several rooms. The only thing I was caught off guard by was the fact that it is $18 per night to park your car in the lot. Other than that, it was a nice place to stay and is minutes from everything.
