Hostel style motel with either bunk rooms or standard rooms. Rooms are small but clean and comfortable. Ask for a room in the back to avoid traffic noise throughout the night. There is a store with basics and hiking supplies which is helpful.

This is really designed as an overnighter for people who are getting up early to climb Mt. Whitney. But there are a few upstairs rooms for the less ambitious. Ours was facing the Mountain and Lone Pine's main street. There are nice chairs to sit out on the landing, drink some wine and watch the sundown over Whitney. The room...

We opted for the 6 bunk beds room. Pretty roomy enough for 5 of us. Place is clean, well maintained. aC works great, convenience store downstairs and location is good. Restaurants are easy to find outside. From the hotel, it's about 15-20 mins drive to the trailhead.

The Whitney Portal Hostel was built and is owned and operated by the Thompson family, who also own and operate the Whitey Portal Store, at the base of Mt. Whitney. They especially cater to hikers, as it was Mr. Thompson's vision that Lone Pine should have an affordable place for the JMT / PCT through hikers to stay when they...

We stayed here for one night after completing 4 day backpacking trip ending at Whitney Portal. Cheap and conveniently located. The room is outdated and double beds are small but it will do. Hot shower is all we needed. The store has a lot of useful items. They won't check you in before 3pm or after 8pm.

The hostel is located on the main street (US Route 395) of Lone Pine, CA and it’s hard to beat the convenience of its central location. It is well run and kept very clean by a friendly staff. There are excellent views of Mt. Whitney and surrounding peaks of the Sierra Nevada range and Inyo Mountains from the second floor...

I was here on the off-season, so got lucky and had the 8-bed room all to myself. It felt much more like a hotel with respect to services than a typical hostel (and I've visited a few) with a microwave, fridge and shower-bath in the room itself. Especially the bath was much appreciated after a 180 mile/275 km hike! All...

Your head might be snapped off by Jessica at the front deck who didnt even look up when we presented ourselves and said we had a reservation. Check in is at 3. We tried to ask a question and again were told check in is at 3. I think she realized her poor behavior and tried to be nice. So...

This is a reasonably priced hostel that works well as a hopping off point to Whitney Portal, and other trails in the high Sierras. After 4-days hiking along the Pacific Crest Trail I stopped in here for a shower, then decided to stay. There are 4 or 5 shower stalls and you can choose to have a nice warm rinse...

This is really affordable and clean. Comfortable beds. Nice en suite. I thoroughly recommend this place. It's on a Main Street so really convenient for shops and bars. The guy on reception was friendly and really helpful. The downside - what is it with Americans and hostel etiquette!?!? You shouldn't be getting up at 4am to go hiking and turning...
