1950's cabins with 2016 prices. Host is rude, place is layed back, river is dirty and beach is unappealing. The host ordered my son who arrived 1/2 hour early after a 7 hour drive to leave the property till offical check in time. Understand to get there includes a 1/3 of mile drive down a steep dirt road to get... More

We discovered BBL about 5 years ago and it's become my favorite summer getaway spot. Where else can you be in a spectacular wilderness setting yet have the comfort of hot running water, comfortable beds and fully equipped kitchens. What a joy to see kids (and grown-ups) running around being kids, minus electronic gadgets or cell phones, making s'mores around... More

BBL is an amazing spot. The river alone makes it incredible, but WAIT...there's more! It's situated right on a bend of the Eel River that's one of the best places to swim EVER! It's like a natural Olympic size swimming pool surrounded by cliffs, with beautiful trees on one side, and a beach and valley on the other. Breathtaking. There... More

My husband's family has gone to Big Bend for over 30 years, and myself with them for more than 15 years. It pains me to say the management's treatment of us last summer was unacceptable and they have no business being in the hospitality industry. We arrived 30 minutes early for our check in time after a 3 hour drive... More

I've been to BBL a couple of times, but this last trip was so great I wanted to write a review. I went with a 7 other families. Between us we had kids ranging from 9 months to 8 years old. It is a perfect place to go with young kids. The beach has a perfect shallow area for all... More

I spent two nights last August with my friends' wedding party (about 18 of us in all, I believe) at Big Bend Lodge. I can't imagine a more enjoyable way to celebrate my friends' marriage and relax after the ceremony. First off, the drive to Big Bend was gorgeous: we passed through vineyards and redwoods on the way to the... More

My family and I have been going to BBL for 3 years now and it's magic only gets better every year. It's charming and simple on an absolutely gorgeous part of the Eel river. After a day of unwinding, swinging in the hammock, swimming in the river, and resting by the campfire at night, I have completely surrendered to the... More

This was my first visit to Big Bend Lodge. Three friends and I, with our lab, shared cabin 9, which is one of the two that allows dogs. The property is being updated with simple, stylish charm. The place is something special to the new owners, so they are intent on bringing back the original charm to this magical site.... More

We stayed here in the middle of January for two nights while on a family road trip. The grounds were nice, the care taker was friendly and helpful but there were a few issues. We knew that it was rural, that there was no television or internet, our cell phones probably wouldn't work and the closest store was an hour... More

Management response:

Thank you for visiting the Big Bend Lodge, your feedback is truly valued. We are so glad that you enjoyed the remote and beautiful surroundings, it is a very special spot. We apologize for the lack of fire wood. The January time frame that you stayed was the coldest of the season, and we usually do not have issues with... More

This is a basic motel/camp with a great spot, good fun and easy going pace. Don't expect to be a modern traveler here. No TV and no cell phone, those are features. Stayed two nights on a cold weekend in mid-January. What a great place. It is basic but very clean. They have fireplaces in the cabins, plus heat and... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Summer like it used to be. Big Bend Lodge is a small 1940’s resort that sits on an idyllic and completely private section of the South Fork of the Eel River in Northern Mendocino County. We have nine rustic cabins with full kitchens that can accommodate 4 to 5 people each and some of our cabins are dog friendly. A well-kept secret amongst California families and groups who've been coming to the lodge for decades, Big Bend Lodge strives to maintain the relaxed and friendly atmosphere of days gone by when the perfect vacation was floating on a river all day and then telling stories around a campfire at night. A wonderful place for children, Big Bend Lodge is also a perfect place for a group of adults to book for a completely private and relaxed get-away.*Under new ownership by six families who have been coming to the lodge for years.* ... more   less
