There are some overpriced places to visit and this is NOT one of them. We only paid £22 for a family of 3 and spent 2.5 hours there and had to go as they were closing, otherwise we would have stayed longer. The castle on its own is great to look at and it is filled full of artifacts from...

I stayed up at chillingham on bank holiday Sunday for one night for my mums 60th birthday. There was 10 if us in total. We had originally booked the lookout room in the castle for my mum and her 3 sisters then the rest of us were booked in to stay in one of the apartments. However once we booked...

And all you need to do is pay entry to the Castle. Arrived around 10:30 on a Sunday morn with time for a wonderful walk through fields with stunning views etc. to visit the cattle. (from a distance) Then onto the very interesting Church (links with the castle - very interesting stories too about this church yard). Come 12 noon...

I realised my history with Chillingham when I looked through some of my parents photos, there are pictures of me aged around 7 years old in the gardens at Chillingham. Every time I visit Northumberland I'm drawn to Chillingham, it's an intriguing place, where you never quite know what you are going to find from one room to the next....

I'd done some research on the Castle prior to visiting so knew it had some serious history; however, nothing prepared us for the 'eclectic' mix which is strewn throughout the building! This isn't to say it was an unpleasant experience because it wasn't. The job of renovating the Castle is, I imagine, very expensive and time consuming but I believe...

Been wanting to visit since a friend recommended a look to the torture chamber there. Love the architecture of the place. All staff were lovely, friendly and approachable. Inside was exactly as I imagined it to be. I could see Sir Humphrey's antiquated eclectic collection of artefacts throughout the castle. Which to me added more character to the place! I...

We had reservations about visiting Chillingham Castle having checked out previous reviews. We started our visit by having some lunch... A fly buzzing around inside where the food was being displayed/stored wasn't the best of starts and the overall cleanliness of the area left a lot to be desired. Granted this area is one of the old castle rooms but...

We visited this place in 1986 before the renovations started and were impressed by the plans, BUT going back was so disappointing. The place is a mess. I am amazed that it is allowed to open on health and safety grounds alone. 4 coach parties were queueing for the cafe, so it appears to be making money but where it...

We booked the Lookout appartment for a Friday to Sunday stay. We stayed alone on the Friday night before being joined on the Saturday by a couple who are friends. OK - we had read all the reviews beforehand and have also been along last year as day trippers so we knew what to expect. As other reviewers have said,...

I was really looking forward to the castle visit and on approach, I was most impressed. The building and grounds were stunning, although the castle still needs a lot of TLC. However when you enter it looks like, as another reviewer perfectly put it, Steptoe's yard. Very little seemed to belong to this impressive building and it would have looked better...
