We spent 3 nights here and wished we could have stayed longer. Charming boutique hotel in the best location. Our diubkr queen room Was very spacious and was a welcome change while traveling with our older daughters. Amazing staff- very friendly and helpful. Perfect location! We will be back for sure.
Stayed 4 nights for our anniversary. Location in La Jolla can’t be beat, right in the heart where you can walk to everything. Staff was efficient and courteous and took care of us. Older hotel with charm but very nice. Will definitely return.
We stayed here for three nights while visiting San Diego. We had no major complaints but also weren't totally blown away, especially for the cost (although cost is high everywhere!). The staff was very friendly. Some of the sheets were dirty upon arrival, and they sent someone up to bring us a new one quickly. The bed was pretty comfortable, but we didn't think the AC worked very well (and it was extremely loud on the highest setting). Location was great, and we had no issues finding street parking throughout the day and overnight, which saved us the $30/day for valet parking cost. We stayed in a king room and thought the size of the room was nice - not as small as some other hotel rooms.
We splurged on an ocean view room and we're very glad we did. With it's views and decorating, this was probably my all-time favorite hotel room. (Room 506, BTW.) The Grand Colonial is friendly and very comfortable, yet certainly grand enough for the most special occasions. The location was perfect, everything worked in the room, it was very quiet, and so we spent more time than we had planned just hanging out and talking in the room. It was a wonderful anniversary.
Everything was fine except the sheets were sub standard (coarse) uncomfortable, mattress had no support and I was not give a quiet room location as requested. The house keeping staff were friendly and very accomodating. .................................................................................................................................................................
Excellent location. Resturants, bars, shopping across the street. Ocean a short walk. Hotel resturant (Nine Ten) was fabulous. The hotel is well maintained and outstanding staff, with superior service, and valet parking. Only drawback for us was the room had a chiller rather than a refrigerator
The Grand Colonial is a handily located hotel in the heart of La Jolla. The staff there are very pleasant and accommodating, and were extremely understanding when I had to cancel a night due to a missed connection. If there are any criticisms they might be: 1. The decor is starting to look a little tired. I think many of the rooms could do with a bit of refurbishment - paint coming off walls etc. 2. Bizarrely they don’t do breakfast every day. You get sent to a pretty mediocre place across the road. 3. They charge $25 extra per day for WI-FI - which they say is a ‘resort charge’ (whatever that is). Otherwise a nice place…they have a very good gym attached down the road.
Staff are excellent and building is charming. A boutique experience with water views, a heated pool and an excellent restaurant. that you should visit for fine dining and extensive wine list, even if you are not staying at the hotel. Valets are efficient and very nice. They offer a local gym pass and its the best gym I have been to. Charming 100 year old hotel.
Worst stay in quite a long time. If you love, old, stained, tired establishments with absolutely no attention to detail or customer service, this is the place for you. You'll also love: 1. Dingy, stained and old sheets. 2. Lumpy mattress and pillows that are clearly decades old and deteriorating 3. Hair from the previous occupants on your bathroom floor 4. Towels that are not only grey and rough but seem to actually repel water than absorb any 5. Absolutely no water pressure in your shower 6. Wifi that cuts in and out constantly 7. Hearing the laundry room rumble constantly (room 206) 8. Keeping your windows shut because the same laundry room vent fills your room with the smell of dryer lint 9. Being told your room won't be available until 4pm then never getting a text or phone call when it's ready. 10. Being charged over $400 a night for a room that's bested by a $99 Holiday Inn Express When you check out, you'll be happy to they couldn't even care for a minute how your stay was, they won't ask. …
We enjoyed our stay at the hotel. Nice room and excellent daily housekeeping. All staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is in the middle of La Jolla. We would highly recommend this hotel.
