The staff was fantastic. It's tough being away from home. They were so great at being available just to talk after a long day. The valet guys were hilarious, all the restaurant tips, including the 5 pound burrito were outstanding.

My mother and I were very excited to stay at this historic hotel but our excitement was quickly shattered by our horrible experience that began as soon as we entered the hotel. The woman at the concierge desk looked annoyed when she saw us and acted as if we were an inconvenience. She was very unhelpful when we asked her...

The Grande Colonial came highly recommended by friends who visited La Jolla in June 2016, and boy, were they spot on! What a fantastic hotel and restaurant. The common areas and guest rooms are tastefully decorated and cozy. Our suite #512 overlooked the pool and had a view of the ocean as well. This suite had two queen beds, each...

We stayed at one of the suites, at The Little Hotel by the Sea. Nice space, with a kitchenette, comfortable king bed and also a sofa bed for a child. Clean room and attentive staff. The location couldn't be better, one block from the beach and all the central shops and restaurants. Definately will come back!

Dear Coccinelle72: I am so happy to hear how much you enjoyed your suite in our adjacent Little Hotel by the Sea wing. The 8 suites in that building (adjacent to the main hotel) provide a more residential-feel with full kitchens and some even with fireplaces. They are ideal for families traveling with children or those seeing a little more...

Overall, a great stay. Only a few minor issues. The bed was too soft for me personally and I was surprised to see such a small TV in a King Suite. It had been renovated several times over the years but still retains the early 20th century charm.

Thank you, Richard, for taking the time to share feedback about your recent stay with us. While I'm happy to hear that overall you enjoyed the hotel, I'm sorry that the bed was a little too soft for your taste and that the TV was a little too small. I do hope you will give us another opportunity in the...

The hotel is intimate and beautiful and a historical treasure in the heart of La Jolla. Convenient to restaurants, shops, the beach, and the modern art museum. The rooms are spacious, the views fantastic, the service impeccable, the food very good.

Check in was good, in fact most of the staff, especially the bellmen, were friendly. There is only valet parking at the facility. This seems to be a hotel for an older generation. Now to be sure, we are in our sixties but this for people who like "days gone by". The furnishings were definitely old style. The space was...

We stayed here over a weekend prior to staying for business. LOVED the hotel; used the kitchen in our suite, enjoyed the proximity to the ocean (couldn't quite hear the waves from our room, but we could see them), and the staff was impeccable. Only issue was the surprise that you need to valet park your car for $30/day, and...

I perused hotels for weeks before deciding on the Grande Colonial. We were so happy we picked La Jolla for our family's base for the week. It is not far from all of the main attractions but so much nicer than Pacific Beach/ Mission Beach, we even preferred it to the Hotel Del Coronado after we visited there one afternoon....

Dear Codeedo: I couldn't be more pleased to read your comments about your recent visit to La Jolla. Call me biased, but our La Jolla Village is indeed one of the most beautiful places around. The view from our room was amazing! All the staff were friendly and helpful. The rooftop deck at their sister hotel was perfect for watching the sunset. It was my first visit to La Jolla but definitely not my last. Loved the Grande Colonial!!
