HOTEL’S FAVOURITE REVIEW
Reviewed 21 January 2017

The Grande Colonial came highly recommended by friends who visited La Jolla in June 2016, and boy, were they spot on! What a fantastic hotel and restaurant. The common areas and guest rooms are tastefully decorated and cozy. Our suite #512 overlooked the pool and had a view of the ocean as well. This suite had two queen beds, each...

Dear tczuprynski: I couldn't be more pleased to read your comments about your recent visit to La Jolla. Thank you very much for the kind words you shared about the accommodations and the in-room amenities. It is our number one priority to ensure that all of our guests leave with lasting, positive memories and it sounds like we did just...

I have stayed at this hotel before and they have some lovely rooms. Unfortunately, they also have horrible rooms and they are so disorganized that they are unable to recognize their regular guests, let alone remember these guest's preferences. This time, I was put in room 122, which is a room to avoid at all costs. There is a staircase...

The location is amazing, you can walk almost everywhere in La Jolla. The service was great, and the prices were affordable. If you are traveling to San Diego/La Jolla, then I highly recommend staying here.

As always, we had a wonderful time at the Grande Colonial. The room was perfect. The breeze from the ocean provided the best sleep I have had in months. Breakfast at the hotel is always perfect from the staff to the cuisine. In fact, on Mother's Day, the hotel's Nine Ten Restaurant had a spectacular display of pastries waiting for...

Location was perfect, near the Children's Pool where sea lions gather and rest in the sun. Easy access to the Cove Trail and all the nearby shops and restaurants. No need to rent a car to explore the area. Drinks at the 910 bar were excellent, however, the food at the bar was disappointing- cold truffle fries and dry grilled...

Dear D4857YXlaurac: I am so happy to hear how much you enjoyed our location. We are indeed walking distance to just about everything there is to see and do here in the Village of La Jolla, including watching the sea lions and their pups at the nearby Children's Pool. I'm very sorry, however, to hear that your dining experience did...

We stayed in the main hotel in room #521. It worked out really well, had enough room to stage setup and getting ready photos for our wedding. Plus the bed was super comfy. We unfortunately ran out of time to use the coupon at nine-ten, but we definitely would if our stay was longer.

Charming, well-maintained, historical hotel about a block from the ocean in the middle of toney La Jolla village. Really a wonderful operation, and an incredible value. I noticed that some guy gave the hotel 1 star, complaining that the rooms don't have refrigerators and microwave ovens. That's right -- it's a classy hotel, not some joint next to the truck...

Dear snarkus04: A review that truly made me chuckle! Thanks so much for taking the time to write such candid feedback. We appreciate very much your positive sentiment about the hotel. We really enjoyed our stay at the Grand Colonial Hotel. I don't recall ever having such a wonderful night's rest. The beds were like sleeping on feather clouds. Unlike most chain hotels our room was very quiet and within walking distance to the beach and restaurants. I look forward to returning again and also trying the breakfast package at the...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Situated in the seaside Village of La Jolla, just 15 minutes north of downtown San Diego, the Four Diamond Grande Colonial offers classic European styling in the intimate setting of a boutique hotel. For more than a century, the Grande Colonial has been one of the most esteemed hotels in San Diego. We take pride in preserving the heritage laid down by our founders more than 100 years ago by providing the finest experience in first class accommodations. And just as those founders envisioned in 1913, the Grande Colonial remains today a classic hotel that rivals anything in the West. Commanding views of the California coastline, the Grande Colonial overlooks the shores of the Pacific Ocean and is ideally located just steps away from miles of beautiful beaches renowned to Southern California. Within walking distance are world-class shopping, dining, and entertainment and within a short drive are an abundance of golf, recreation and visitor attractions. The hotel features 93 air-conditioned, non-smoking guest rooms and suites (some with fully-equipped kitchens and fireplaces).
