The Hacienda was everything I expected it to be - mostly awesome and a little bit dated. The site feels historic and remote and quiet. It's also spartan, haphazardly furnished, and economical. The staff is friendly and accommodating, but often inaccessible. The surrounding military base is a weird and unusual environment, at least to me, having never served. There is...

My Dad was stationed here when I was in 6th grade, about 1955. Many fond memories. The Hacienda is still beautiful. At one end of the Hacienda, the room with the mural is located use to be the Officers Dining room and we all "dressed" for meals there. No shorts or slacks for the ladies, dresses only. The Commanding Officer...

The point of visiting is here is the experience. It’s not fair to review this place based on regular hospitality-industry expectations. There’s nothing regular about The Hacienda. My “excellent” rating is about the historic and unique aspect, nothing else. This lodge was completed in 1930 for William Randolph Hearst on his HUGE estate. He then sold it and lots of...

This is, as you must know, if you've found this listing, this is truly a unique experience. Please understand that this might not be for everyone. Getting into the base takes time and is bureaucratic. This is not helped by the fact they they send you a form that doesn't print correctly, but don't worry, the Visitor Center is beyond...

I love the Hacienda but I can't sleep there. I'm there now writing this at 6am because I've been awake since 2am. I am awake because in the parking lot outside my window is a generator loudly powering a huge spotlight that illuminates the parking lot. This is the solution the military base came up with when someone fell in...

Prices range from $50 - $200 so there is something for everyone. The on base IHG hotel, Gibb Hall, also is available to non-military guests and is located across the parking lot from the Hacienda, motel type rooms start at $77.00 there. The Hacienda offers a boxed breakfast for 1 (muffin, hard boiled egg, nutrition bar, yogurt) but you can...

Don't expect any fancy amenities. No air-conditioning other then an old portable cooler on wheels. There is no hairdryer. The in-room coffee is the worst ever! The complementary breakfast that was supposed to be in the mini fridge was nowhere to be found. Several of the lightbulbs in the bathroom where burnt out. But despite all this it is great...

As everyone says, (1) It's historic (2) It is strangely located on an army base (3) It's really cheap by California standards (4) It's kind of shabby. It's a one-of-a-kind place. I wouldn't make it my destination, but if you're going to need a place to stay within 30 miles, why not?

Interesting place to visit and stay once. Stayed in Upper Commander's Suite which is a huge apartment. Had 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, full kitchen, large living room with an office/desk and large room at entrance. An interesting and historic property with few luxuries. Free wifi included. 1 Free breakfast included, additional breakfast $5/person. Breakfast was a boxed meal with...

Four of us stayed in the Lower Commander's Suite. Very simple rooms: 3 bedrooms, kitchen & living room. There were no murals or carved doors as shown in some of the pictures. The stove was unusable & the water dispensing area of the fridge was very dirty. The main bathroom was also very dirty with dust covering the fronts of...
