We had a three night reservation but got into town a day early. They were able to get us into room 11. Big bath, smaller room. Really nice though. We moved the next day to Room 3 which was our original choice. It's a big room and we loved it. The bath was smaller but you don't spend much time in there anyway. Edie is the owner and she's a very kind person. The manager, Mary is so professional and they both dress that way each day. Rhonda was our bartender and she had several personal stories about the resident ghosts: Flo, Jack and Elizabeth. Flo visited our first night in room 3 by turning on the bedside light when we were both in bed. She also closed the bathroom door on me. This is the place to stay is your in the area of Jamestown.
I was on a bit of a Golden State tour this week, starting with a revisit to Hwy 395, Mammoth and Tahoe and then on to the Gold Country, San Francisco, Mendocino Coast, and the Redwoods. While in the Gold Country I had a truly memorable, if not short, stay at the National Hotel. I wish I had been able to stay longer. I was only there for one night, but I have all intentions of returning sometime again (hopefully) soon. Next time it will be a several night stay, with the National as my home base. I was highly impressed with everything about The National! From the bartender and host, Rhonda, to the new owner, Edie, I was moved by everything the hotel had to offer. (Hope I got the spellings of the names correct!). They both made me feel right at home from the time my stay began. Rhonda gave me a great review of the hotel's history, and when taking me upstairs to show me the room I would be staying in for the evening, it felt as if I was being welcomed Into someone's home. A short time later I met Edie, the new proprietor, and she was equally enchanting and welcoming to this very special hotel. She truly cares about the comfort of her guests, checking in to make sure everything is going well. The room felt historic, quaint, and was very well-appointed. What a beautiful place! And perhaps the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. The hotel is very quiet, located on an enchanting and historic street, across from an Emporium, and I had a nice opportunity to spend some time writing while sitting out on the upstairs balcony. As a hotel guest they automatically made a restaurant reservation available to me, with the time of my choice. As I told Edie, as she walked around the dining room checking in on us, if I were a local, I'd be there every night for dinner. From the special drink that Rhonda created, a jalapeño and cucumber mojito, to the baked brie with fresh local honey, and a main course of chicken breast with shrimp, apricot and a sauce of apricot brandy, the dinner was equally out of this world. The apricot bon bon prepared table side was a great way to cap off the dinner. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the Gold Country. Find your way to Jamestown because this will be a great home base. It is so comfortable and hospitable you won't be sorry! Thanks to Rhonda, Edie and the whole staff for a great stay!! I'll be back.…
My husband and I booked a room for the saturday 16 and nobody told us that the room we were booking had NO BATHROOM ! We refuse to stay and asked for refund , they told us they needed to contact the owner for that, we came back on Sunday and still they couldn’t contac the owner.Today (Monday)and still no answer !!
We have stayed at this place several times over the years while traveling to the Eastern Sierra. Although, we were disappointed that the restaurant was not open during our stay, we did meet the new owner and are very excited about what she is planning for the future. The rooms are clean, towels fluffy and beds comfortable. The history of this location is also amazing. Recommend this for a get-away weekend - we live about 2 1/2 hours away in the Bay Area so it is an easy drive.
I just want to start off by saying thank you!!!!! The staff and hotel manager were so nice and welcoming and made me and my friends feel so welcome!! I just want to say thank you!!!!! We love hotel we will be making a yearly tradition of visiting!!! Best Holloween ever!!!!!
This place was so fun!! The service was really good and the staff were very kind. They gave us a tour in the beginning and the place has some cool history! There was a “ghost” that lived there named Flo, although we weren’t visited by him. Maybe next time ;) I loved how old fashioned it was! Overall we loved our stay
Went to have dinner, place was buzzing, terrible acoustical control....have to raise voice to get across to wife. Owner was not in good mood....monthly problem ..? Said we were to loud....ruined our dinner....as long as he is present we will never go back.Pitiful and Pathetic. He should not be in this business.
My boyfriend and I had a splendid overnight stay at the National Hotel. We stayed in Room 11, apparently the quietest and best room available. It was very clean and quaint with antique furniture. We had dinner downstairs and it was delicious! The menu isn’t quite what I imagined for a small-town restaurant. It was very decadent and quite higher class! Highly recommend to stay at. The folks running both the hotel and restaurant were super friendly and made us feel welcome.
We found this hotel charming and the staff top notch! The attention to detail was amazing even in these COVID times! We were met by Mary who took great care to make sure we were welcome and settled. The rooms are exceptionally clean, tastefully decorated in period antiques and furnishings, and the bed was very comfortable. A clean comfy robe waited for us. Because of covid they were not allowed to serve breakfast but fresh coffee and teas appeared outside our room in the morning, along with fruit and yogurt.. Be sure to enjoy meals in the restaurant and don't forget to enjoy some of the best cocktails we've had in some time. All the staff is top notch and friendly. For lunch we had the best spinach salad!! For our dinner, Rhonda, AMAZING Rhonda, was our server and mixologist. We sampled several of her specialty cocktails. Our dinner was delicious especially considering this tiny town. I had Mediterranean Shrimp and hubbie enjoyed Alfredo pasta. Such fun when for dessert we were entertained by Rhonda and Cherry as Rhonda served up a fresh apricot dark chocolate bonbon, flambe' style! WOW! That evening we walked around the quiet, closed up little town. We so enjoyed our stay and would love to come back again! Great experience, great value!…
We are "local" (55 miles away) and come to the National Hotel pretty frequently for afternoon snacks and drinks and on occasion, for dinner. Not having the National Hotel available for the past couple of months has had us just waiting for their reopening. We were NOT DISAPPOINTED!! A couple of hors d'oeuvres, a sandwich, and a couple of libations, service by Cherry, drinks by Rhonda and a few minutes with Steve, the proprietor made for a really nice outing. By the way, if you want something refreshing and unusual, try Rhonda's "Green Goddess" signature drink. And, the National Hotel is taking their responsibility for cleanliness VERY seriously. Welcome Back, National Hotel. Really happy you're back!!
