Detailed Reviews
We were greeted by Wendy who asked us to complete our breakfast requests while having a cup of tea. It was very disappointing that we were offered only store-bought Oreo cookies or fig Newtons. We had booked this B&B months in advance. Even our least expensive accommodations on this trip offered homemade squares & cookies. Our room was large and very comfortable with ensuite bathroom. It was wonderful that we had 2 luggage racks in our room. Wendy displayed many of her photographs throughout the house and had numerous locally-made knitted articles for sale. Breakfast the next day was very nice but quite late. We had asked for our meal at 8:30 so we could be at L’Anse aux Meadows when it opened but breakfast wasn’t served until almost 9 so we had a late start to our day. We were the only guests that evening. The B&B was very conveniently located near to L’Anse aux Meadows.

This is such a lovely place to stay! Jenny & David are very friendly and helpful. They gave us information about the viking village and places to eat nearby. The room was clean, comfortable and very affordable! Jenny's breakfast was delish and the coffee was perfect. We did some beach combing and found amazing shells and rocks. I highly reccomend this B&B to anyone who is up for a little adventure. It is very close by to the viking village and the historic site.

This B and B is just steps away from the wonderful Viking settlement at l'Anse aux Meadows. That's the history part. Hospitality is provided by Jenny and partner Dave. They are both warm, enthusiastic and knowledgable and provide a very comfortable home away from home. Breakfast is excellent as is the view from the dining room and deck. I will certainly return.

A hotel is a place to sleep, but a bed and breakfast, if done right, is much more. And Jenny's Runestone House is done right. Jenny and David are perfect hosts, welcoming guests into their home and helping them experience life in northern Newfoundland. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the food is delicious and abundant, and the setting is spectacular. L'Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site is just minutes away, and that was our original destination. But now Jenny's, too, has become a permanent and essential part of our trip. We'd recommend it to anyone who seeks to explore the Viking Trail, and who wants more than just another place to sleep.

We had stayed an Entente Cordial the night before so the bar was set pretty high - I'll stick to the facts. If you need something simple in this area, this will do. Two signs out front tell you not to check in before 4:30. Breakfast is at 8 and check out is immediately after. The closest parking spot to the door has a sign "reserved for staff".

AWESOME LOCATION. We could walk 1/8 mile to L'anse aux Meadows ( saw both National Parks and Homestead exhibits), could drive 10 min to Daily Catch or Northern Delight restaurants. Lots of good trails nearby for hiking and walking. Would go back again!

A stay with Jenny and David feels like staying with old friends. They are so welcoming and enjoy sitting and chatting with their guests in the living room. There is a small fridge for guests to store wine, beer, etc with glasses nearby. They also provide an area for guest to make coffee, tea and hot chocolate whenever they wish. The home has an amazing view of Hay cove and is very close to the entrance to the L'Anse aux Meadows national historic site. Norstead which is a recreated Viking settlement complete with locals acting the parts is also close by and worth a trip. The breakfast with homemade muffins, fruit, yogurt, and hot items was delicious. It is obvious Jenny and David love meeting people and have a gift for making you feel like you are home. They both stood on the porch waving goodbye as we left.

There is so much to explore in this part of Newfoundland that you should stay 2 or more nights to see the sites. Jenny & David are wonderful hosts and you will more like you are visiting friends rather than paying customers. The views out the windows of Hay's cove are amazing. Binoculars are available for whale watching from the dining room.
There is a coffee shop right next door that sells cronuts, but you won't need these for breakfast. The generous multi course breakfast will be more then you can eat. The home made muffins were the best I experienced in Newfoundland! The fried baloney was a real local delicacy. The cantaloupe was surprisingly sweet.
David is a wealth of information on all things Viking. There is a common room with sofas where we shared a bottle of wine. The local restaurant had "mummering" when I was there.
I had the room downstairs which would have been cramped without the common area to use. The WiFi worked well.
There is artwork and quilts at the B&B. Other than the Meadows, there is a recreated Nordic site nearby. There is also an Eco reserve and other day trips to St Anthony's.
The last thing I saw as I was driving away was Jenny and David standing in the front yard waving me goodbye. A nice touch !!!

We travelled to my home province this month July 2014 and found this lovely B and B in Hay Cove on the tip of the Great Northern Penisulia of Newfoundland. Our goal was to be near the Viking settlement at L'Anse Aux Meadows.
Jenny's is a very nice home minutes from the Viking Site. The views from her house are magical.Marvellous scenery and comfortable accommodation. It is a casual home.
The breakfast served was wonderful, lots of jams fruit and hot dishes. She was very very knowledgeable. I loved this spot.

Jenny and David's home is located in a little cove with spectacular ocean and cliff views and a few minutes from l'Anse Aux Meadows. There is a 3 km or so well maintained path up the cliff that will give you even better views. Jenny and David are wonderful, warm, sophisticated, welcoming hosts who know the area well. The home is very comfortable and the breakfast huge and delicious. Our only regret is that we did not stay one more night!
