This "remote ranch" in the Forest is an absolute delight for the senses!!! Far removed from the business of everyday life, here is a lodge style restaurant tucked away in a meadow. Menu is fixed, but changes daily. A fish or vegetarian option is available on request w/reservations. The big surprise is the elegant & rich dessert ,a vanilla caramel...

Went for the day to hike and explore. didn't stay in any of the cabins, tho they looked quaint and it is a fabulous location. We did hikes to Boiling Lake and Devils Kitchen. Both are moderate hikes with ups and downs but nothing to scare off the casual hiker. The boiling waters, steam vents, sulfur springs in both locations...

My husband & I have visited many national park lodges and this one is definitely unique! First off, note that the actual national park (which one would drive through and see the sights) is a long car ride away. And the accommodations ARE very rustic. We booked almost a year in advance so that we could get the one of...

The Drakesbad Guest Ranch is not what the pictures would lead you to believe. The rooms are extremely small. Our lodge room left us smelling sewage, garbage and the horse stables all night. One of us slept on the floor because the bed was jammed against the wall and too soft. The food service was acceptable but I would not...

Dear Janine M., thank you for taking time to review your stay at Drakesbad Guest Ranch. Our facility has 19 rooms with various sizes and configurations. Some of the rooms do have less space in order to accommodate more beds for families that want to be able to stay together. With the limited space in the rooms, the beds in...

We came upon a cancellation at this rustic lodge and grabbed it. Luckily we visited Lassen the day before (the road that goes through the park) to see all of that so when we arrived here on the other side of the Park we could enjoy the lodge and hikes and horseback rides from the lodge. Horseback riding was a...

The only lodge in Lassen Volcanic National Park – and what a spot it is! The location is perfect, for hiking to it on a day hike or as a stop along the Pacific Crest Trail, as well as driving up and staying for day hikes. I hiked to Boiling Springs Lake, the Terminal Geyser, Little Willow Lake one day....

We have been going to Drakesbad for more than 15 years and never fail to love its rustic charm, fantastic food, and in-your-face proximity to hikes, hot springs, trees, interesting fauna, and the Milky Way at night in all its glory at night. Drakesbad is our little piece of paradise.

If you have nostalgia for an old fashioned kind of nature vacation where you can leave behind electronic gadgets and be surrounded by beauty, simplicity, and warm, good-hearted people, then Drakesbad is for you! This is a great place for families, but also wonderful for couples looking to get away from it all, or it would be fun for a...

I have been going to Drakesbad for over 50 years. The friends and families we know have gone all loved it, from 3 year olds, teens, to grandparents. Where else will you find handmade furniture, oil lamps, and pool a heated from a volcanic mineral spring, while truly keeping the charm of its circa 1900 heritage. Everyone will enjoy and...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
In 1916 Congress established Lassen Volcanic National Park as the fifteenth national park in the United States. Privately held Drakesbad bordered the park in the southeast corner. The Sifford family continued to run their beloved Guest Ranch as good neighbors of the Park Service each summer for forty-two years. To preserve the Ranch and guarantee continued quality service for generations to come, Drakesbad was sold to the US government in 1958 for inclusion in to Lassen Volcanic National Park. Since that sale there have been three park concessionaires: for the past 36 years Drakesbad has been run by California Guest Services where the emphasis is still on outstanding customer service! All rates include three meals per day and lodging! All accommodations are rustic and quaint, most without electricity. The use of kerosene lamps is a welcome respite from the modern world and adds a distinct and old time ranch feel to your stay. All rooms include a full or half bath and are gas heated. Housekeeping services are provided daily. As a member of the Green Hotels Network, we make every effort to reduce, reuse, and recycle at Drakesbad. General Information Drakesbad Guest Ranch is open (pending weather conditions) June through mid October. The Ranch is closed mid October through to May. ... more   less
