The hotel is very quaint and has lovely grounds. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were decent. The location is close to the beach but few more blocks to downtown. There are other hotels that are closer to ocean avenue (cypress inn, etc) if that's more important to your stay. There is no valet but we didn't have... More

As one of the guest commented with me "No valet parking, no elevator and no air-condition" but what a wonderful property and stay. Parking is easy to find on very close proximity in the neighborhood or in the back lot. The entire property is VERY WELL kept for the age. It was built in 1905. You can see photographs of... More

We are just 3 days into our stay and I know already and do not want to leave. The hotel has old world charm with excellent service and amenities which has held me captive. From the champaign breakfast, afternoon sangrias, evening wine tastings to the nightly fresh baked cookies and milk, we were blown away! We traveled with teenagers and... More

We loved our room, view, staff, bar service, food, pool, breakfast was awesome, especially the cheese selection and salmon, Our perfect choice for breakfast! Loved the proximity to the city of Carmel and parking in the rear. We loved everything and will be back, The highlight of a 10 day trip.

The hotel looks like the pictures and parking is easy to find on the streets or in the back lot. Close for walking the shops and restaurants in town or to the beach. The concierge was helpful. The breakfast buffet was outstanding but that's about it. The staff at the desk were not very unfriendly and certainly not of any... More

Try to get a different room than 215- it's really basic and too small for a couple. Room 215 might be fine for a solo traveler, it's poorly set up for a couple. Small and set up so if you open the bathroom door it blocks the entrance- just enough space for one suitcase in the corner. This room has... More

There aren't many modern or new options in hotels in Big Sur/Carmel/Monterey. The Hyatt is in urgent need of renovation, Post Ranch is outdated and too slow and boring for anything but a meal, and Spanish Bay is quite expensive if you don't play golf. I opted to stay "in town" where we could walk to restaurants and beaches. La... More

The hotel was pretty yet overpriced for the size of the rooms and the amenities offered. They also failed to inform us that they were hosting a business conference in which 85/90% of the hotel were affiliated with it and that there would be private events (dinners/cocktail parties/meetings etc) held over the entire course of our stay making us unable... My husband and I couldn't be happier with our decision to stay at the La Playa Carmel. The hotel is exactly as pictured, charming with beautiful gardens. The location is perfect.
