Homeless seem to stay here. There was a car parked next to ours that was filled with empty bottles. On one of the benches outside of the room, there was a barefooted homeless guy smoking a cigarette. In our room, it smelled strange. Our impression was that something happened in the room and they tried to use cleaners to cover...

Thanks, bradmF8277MY, for staying with us. While I can't speak on the car or person you mention, as we do not cast judgement on people or their property, I can speak on the room you stayed. We are constantly doing maintenance to upgrade and maintain the property. Your room was recently painted, which explains the smoke alarm being covered and...

We used to visit friends in Berkeley often. Over several years, we used to stay at the Golden Bear Inn (also called “Americas Best Value Inn”. It was cheap and fairly priced for a marginal motel. With time, it has raised its prices but not increased the quality of the stay. For the price, it is simply a poor choice...

Sandy M Thank you for the feedback on your last trip. Yes, our rates have increased along with the rates of every property in the Bay Area. With that being said, we have increased the quality of stay as well. We recently replaced all the door locks for better security as well as replaced all the furniture in the rooms...

I've stayed at this hotel before and never had high expectations. Once a dive, always a dive. It's always been a matter of convenience, across the bridge from San Francisco--a cheap place to lay your head after a long day in the City, and then check out before you start noticing too much. The hotel prices in SF are ridiculous....

Thank you for this review as I do have to apologize. It was our error in renting that particular room as it was supposed to be out of service for repairs. Unfortunately, you found this out the hard way and I do apologize for this. If there is something I can do to make amends, feel free to give me...

We had one night in this hotel and to be honest were glad that it wasn't any more than that. Our room was located at street level, was dark and had a dank smell. Cracks in the bathroom facilities and a broken bathroom door lock didn't inspire much confidence either. The location itself isn't great - it's central enough but...

Hi PuffleIreland Thanks for the response but I'm a little confused on one part. There's mention of a broken bathroom door lock yet when fixing it you became furious. Sorry, just a little confusing as to what you wanted done there. I'll mention this to my staff, see how we can get that right next time. We so have great...

Hello again from the Accidental Traveler...In 2008 we traveled to Berkeley and I fell in love with the charm and cozy atmosphere of this Berkeley landmark, The Golden Bear. It may be 'America's Best Value' but it may also be America's Most Run Down. Back to this place in 2015, it seems almost like someone forgot to clean it since...

Thanks for visiting us again! While not up to par as your first visit, this feedback will give me an ample tool to work with while re-training my housekeeping staff. We do have a few new staff members and will benefit from this and improve upon our guest experience. Thanks again for writing, it's always helpful. P.S. Never eat at...

I booked with this hotel simply out of the need to save money. I had no high expectations. I am VERY pleased to say that the hotel staff went out of their way to take care of me, and were very helpful. My room was clean, and I'd say "quiet," but I am hearing-impaired, and everything is quiet to me....

The room is a lil dated but very clean and comfortable. The only thing is they had no a/c. The had a fan but it was a little noisy so we opened the windows. But overall good some of the walls need painting. A little TLC wouldn't hurt. The pizza restraint was delicious. Very friendly staff. I have really no...

This is an older family owned pet friendly property where the staff was nice and everything worked as it should have. It was convenient to our destination in El Cerrito, we felt safe and the room was quiet. We would stay here again and recommend it to others.

Older hotel that has seen several remodels over the years, yet very comfortable and out of the way from the hustle and bustle of University Ave. This is the second time I have stayed here in the past 8 years, and would stay again. Very reasonable pricing.

Had a few days booked here recently. We flew in, went to bed. Woke up to screams from my co workers being bitten by bed bugs. We left in the the middle of the night and had to pay even more for a chain hotel down the street. We went back the next day, and even though we had this...

Thanks for posting. I'm afraid to tell you that after calling in two professions to inspect your room, it was deemed clear of any bed bug. I recommend you contact the previous facilities you stayed as you acquired those little guys somewhere else and they appear to have traveled with you. Chris Koertge General Manager
