I really enjoyed my time at Mary's B&B. I was traveling on business to attend an event at the Claremont Hotel and Mary's place was within a 5 minute walk. Mary is a superb hostess, very friendly and helpful, and the hip San Francisco grandma you wish you had. The breakfasts were modest but delicious. Mary's home is the perfect... More

During a course at Haas School of Business I had a very pleasant time at Mary's place. Spending my time uphill in one of the most beautifull places of Berkeley's. Mary is very friendly, open and serviceminded in all kind, morning breakfast with fresh fruit, coffee, homemade bread tea and newpaper. Nice view from the bedroom, daily cleaned the bed-... More

An excellent and very conveniently located home away from home. I am a repeat guest from Germany. My daughter (living in Oakland) helped find this house, checking a number of other places and considering Mary's the best. I agree. It is quiet, surrounded by nice homes, yet close to Berkeley town and the university. It is a beautifully kept home... More

This was my first experience at a bed and breakfast and I must say, it was really nice! It felt like a home away from home. My mom and I stayed in the yellow room, which was my favorite of the rooms. The bedding was white, the walls a soft yellow. Lots of light and air, very clean, with a... More

My sister and I stayed as guests last year, enjoying the location above the Clairmont Hotel, with our window looking down the hill into San Francisco Bay, out to the Golden Gate Bridge. My daughter and I returned here in January. The house reminds me of my mother's home, alive now just in memory. Mary Harrow is a most warm... More

I loved the view of the bay from the yellow room. Very comfortable bed and very QUIET. Within walking distance of restaurants and shops by College Avenue and Ashby. Breakfast was very fresh fruit and breads from the bakery down the street. Enjoyed meeting the other travellers. The personable aspect also appealed to me. Unlike the large hotels that feel... More

We have stayed at Marys over the years and always enjoy the quiet location and beautiful neighborhood. Mary is very accomodating and a great host. The only negatives are the following: the home is in need of updating (bathrooms, paint), the breakfast is lacking substance (we found that several times we ate breakfast out). Also, we rented a car, but... More

I chose Mary's based on the many positive Trip Advisor reviews. I don’t disagree with those reviews, but one thing that no one else has mentioned is that the doors to the guests' rooms do not lock--at all! There is not even a button lock or a chain lock. Mary, while very nice, did not seem to understand why this... More

We visited the Bay Area for a family memorial, and decided to stay at a B&B rather than a hotel/motel. Mary made us glad we did! Her home turns 100 years old this year, but it is solid and lovely beyond description. There are three rooms on the top floor (only one flight up), each with its own bathroom and... More

This is our new favorite place to stay in the Oakland area. We really don't want to praise it too highly because we want it to be available for our future visits. Mary was delightful and we enjoyed her occasional visits. The apartment we occupied was extremely spacious, beautifully decorated - very comfortable & calming . The huge deck was... More

“We stayed in the green room, which according to Mary is one of the warmer rooms. For us that was fine, because we were traveling in January. It was comfortable, being neither too warm nor too cold.”
