I visited Samaragiri for 4 nights with my boyfriend and we had a beautiful stay at this tiny hotel. It's the perfect choice if you are looking for peace and privacy. The rooms and the pool are are immaculate an the team was taking great care of us at all time. It's just 10 min walk from the closest beach, but there are plenty of others that can be visited with a short ride on tuk tuk.
Samaragiri is a homestay, less of a hotel, but it's a fantastic experience! The structure is pretty, rooms are new and nicely done up, the pool is great. There are only 4 rooms so there is a lot of privacy. The whole property is beautiful and charming. We loved our 3 days there. Big shout out to the two guys who run the property - Tharaka and Anu. They were extremely friendly and hospitable. Their breakfast is solid as well (we were able to convince them to make french toast for us too!). The manager of the property (Mr. Kumara), was super friendly and helpful too. Suggestion for the property: If you guys can offer evening snacks (fine to charge for these of course), that would be great! One evening we really wanted to just have a couple of drinks and snacks but there was no food around (I know you can arrange for delivery but it's just not the same). Suggestions for future travelers to Samaragiri: 1. The property is somewhat cutoff from the rest of the town (about a 5 minute drive from the highway but difficult to walk through, especially after sundown), so just be aware of that. The place is also not on google maps, but their website has great directions. 2. Get Mr. Kumara's phone number on the first day so you can whatsapp him to ask for suggestions on restaurants/activities, he has a ton of contacts in town and is super up to date on everything local.…
This was my 2nd time to Samaragiri - there will be MANY more. Stunningly beautiful villa(s), work-of-the-art gardens/setting, professional but keen & friendly staff, fascinating local shopping, with amazing Sri Lankan/Portuguese/Spanish/English history. It's the kind of place you can sit and think, "Q: Where else in the world would I like to go/see/be? A: Nowhere else: just this will do!"
It was raining when we arrived and we were greeted by the two gentlemen who work there and they took our bags in for us. It was evening, and having travelled for much of the day, we decided to go for a swim. We had the pool to ourselves and the lights were turned on for us for a relaxing introduction to our stay. Breakfast (included and at requested time) was nice and our egg order was taken the evening before. We also got a plate of fruit and a tea/coffee. We were impressed by the staff members as they were friendly and helpful and on our day of departure they prepared us a packed breakfast (omelette and fruit) and this was ready for us at our 5am departure. Samaragiri is a quaint and peaceful lodge and garden with only 4 bedrooms and friendly staff. We would happily return in the future.…
We stayed in this stunning villa with friends, 3 other couples. The suites are beautiful. They are serviced daily by the young men who work there. Our suite was NZ and had a view of the pool. The outdoor shower was wonderful! The air conditioning was very effective and the bed extremely comfortable, perfect for a good nights’ rest. Some of my favourite times were spent by the pool, sipping on a lime soda, chatting with friends or reading. Breakfast by the pool was another highlight, always served with a cheery smile. I don’t eat eggs but thoroughly enjoyed the fruit (served beautifully) followed by toast and copious amounts of coffee. Special thanks to the staff for making our stay so wonderful.
Absolutely EVERYTHING about Samaragiri is just as-good-as-it-gets. Spacious and exquisitely-decorated rooms; tranquil beautiful grounds; friendly professional staff; lots of interesting places to visit and things to do very nearby. We'd give it 6 out of 5 stars if we could!
Wonderful villa with fantastic swimming pool & beautiful gardens. The staff were very accommodating. Organised food, drinks & transport in a very friendly manner. The pina coladas were the best I've ever drunk. Great room with very comfortable bed & fantastic outdoor shower
We arrived in Sri Lanka just as the terrible events of 21 April unfolded. We changed our itinerary to avoid travelling too much and the crowded spaces of railway stations and city centres. We headed south to the old Dutch fort at Galle and found Samaragiri on Booking.com. What a choice! The villa houses 4 en suite rooms and we took one with a pool view. As the only guests we had the place to yourselves but Im sure the fantastic service we got from the on site staff would be replicated even if the place were booked out. Friendly, smiley, always wanting to help and a real credit to the place. The grounds of the villa are like a mini safari park with purple faced langur monkeys playing in the trees above us, squirrels scurrying around lower down, lizards occasionally surfacing and moving slowly amongst the undergrowth, frangapani, mango and coconut trees a home to all manner of bird life, including the beautiful Kingfisher. Idyllic. A tuk tuk will take you into Galle in 20 mins and if you want one for the day ask for Ranju and he will take care of you for about €5. 10 mins walk and you are at Coco beach whwre you can sit in the shade with an ice cold Lion lager and watch the Indian ocean crash against the shore (too steep a beach and strong currents to swim unfortunately). Sri Lanka is suffering in all sorts of ways at the moment but the people and the country are really beautiful and well worth a visit. And if you come to Galle, come to Samaragiri.…
Our international family (Lithuania, UK, China, USA) spent five wonderful days and nights in this beautiful villa. Everything was at the highest level - environment, villa design, aesthetics, services. The employees are warm, smart and very helpful. At our request, the villa staff even invited the official Discovery chef to prepare a special dinner for us. Amazing experience !!! We will, of course, once again come back to Samaragiri.
Absolutely beautiful property! The villa plus the open garden/ pool area is the perfect holiday space! The villa staff were great, always there when you needed them, yet not intrusive. They helped us organize a private chef to come cook dinner at the villa, the food was fantastic! A five star property! Great location too, 20 min tuk tuk ride to Galle centre, wild beaches 5-10 min away. Would recommend to a friend no doubt!
