Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.

Monart Hotel is often celebrated for its impeccable cleanliness and stunning location, although the tranquility might be occasionally disturbed by road noise. The establishment offers a homely atmosphere with a historical charm, yet some areas could benefit from rejuvenation. While the professionalism and warmth of the staff are frequently commended, a handful of guests have faced challenges with service and booking.
Opinions on value are split, with some guests questioning the price point. The spa and thermal amenities are a highlight, despite occasional overcrowding and missing features, and while the rooms are comfortable and spacious, the absence of basic amenities like tea/coffee facilities and WiFi has been noted by some visitors.

Detailed Reviews
Just back from a night away in Monart with my mam and sisters and felt like we were away for days it was that relaxing.
From the moment you arrive you are treated like royalty. Car is parked up for you, bags disappear and it all about switching off. There is no wifi just in the room and you don't need it. We had lunch in the garden and then went our rooms went they where ready. We went up and put on our robes which you live in and for your stay they only time you dress is for dinner, you embrace the robe and straight away feel relaxed and ready to unwind.
We used the thermal suite in the afternoon and then had dinner in the restaurant which is the only place you have to be dressed for. We had a treatment the day we where checking out which was just wonderful felt like a new person and we had lunch again in the hotel before we left.
this is a wonderful experience to switch off and not worry about the outside world. We enjoyed the wonderful list of cocktails they have which are excellent and the rooms are massive with a wonderful waterfall shower which just washes your cares away. The staff are excellent from the minute you arrive to the time you leave so attentive and helpful and friendly, which makes the trip even more special.
This is definitely a place we will go back to again and again.

We were one of the first guests to arrive back at Monart since their closure in March. We had a brief idea of what to expect from friends that had visited before but nothing compared to what we experienced. We stayed on a one night package and were treated like royalty from the moment we arrived. Our spa treatments with Amanda & Ciara were fantastic and even during the current pandemic, we never felt safer as every precaution was taken along with ample amount of hand sanitiser stations. Fabulous staycation and will most definitely be returning. Thank you!

Dear 560fergalb, Thank you very much for taking the time to review your stay with us. I am thrilled to read that you enjoyed your stay , but also that you felt safe , which is so important in this current climate . That means so much to us as there was a lot of work gone into policy and procedures for covid-19 . We look forward to welcoming you back to Monart. best regards Mark Browne

From immediate effect, we felt relaxed as we entered the premises. Richard greeted us politely and offered to take out bags while Anita checked us in and gave us a full briefing as to what to expect during our visit to Monart.
Anita was so welcoming as she walked us to our room, showing us everything, leaving no stone unturned.
We dined in the restaurant both evenings, and were welcomed by Mario, whose service was exceptional.
The food was exquisite and the overall experience was faultless.
Followed by our meal, we proceeded to the garden bar, where were greeted by Sean, who made us feel comfortable and at home in the cosy setting.
The morning of our first day, I received the most fabulous Swedish massage from Ellen, who is an exceptional therapist. She was so professional and catered to my needs from the minute I was taken into the treatment room. Ellen was so attentive and a pleasure to meet.
We then proceeded to use the Spa including the Thermal Suites and the Hydro Pool which were kept in immaculate condition and we could not have felt more comfortable.
Upon checkout, our pre booked Taxi was cancelled unexpectedly. I queried with Richard if the hotel offered a driving service to which we were introduced us to the lovely Michael.
Due to Covid restrictions, their usual chauffeur is currently out of service however Michael personally ensured we got to the train station with time to spare!
Although we were only introduced to some of the staff at Monart, all of the staff were kind and courteous. We could not have asked for a more pleasant experience and, we most certainly will return in the near future.

Spent 2 nights here on 28/29 August, and i have to say i was disappointed to the extent that in my opinion this is a 4 star resort and not 5. The grounds are beautiful and a delight to walk around with beautiful nooks and private areas. The rooms them selves are beautiful but not 5 star. Rainfall shower too close to the shower wall and very poor pressure when hot water was selected to the extent that if you were any way rotund you would have to have a cold shower to rinse off. I would have expected wifi in all the rooms, and before anyone says it, i get the fact that its a retreat resort and your there to relax and chill out, but still no wifi in 2020!!!! Also no tea coffee making facilities in room and a not so "premium" make of TV in the room. I would have expected a premium brand such as Sony or Samsung not Walker.
Food was inconsistent in the garden lounge, our started was amazing on the Friday night but the main was only average. Also I would have expected not to have to tell the bar man how to make a Mojito as i had to do on the Saturday night as the ones on Friday night were not up to standard especially at €13.50 a pop. That said once told how i wanted it it was fine. Dinner in the main restaurant was beautiful on the Saturday night. Breakfast however was not so good, hard to believe you can get a full Irish wrong but my partner left most of his and said it was'nt the best. I had the pancakes but found them bland and had to ask for pastries twice on the Sunday morning as they did not come when ordered.
Had also to ask for a computer cable to be dropped up to the room a second time as it was not done when we checked in.
Spa was lovely pool itself could do with being a little bigger tho but acceptable none the less. I had booked a massage for the Saturday afternoon and for some reason both myself and my partner thought it was for 4.30 pm but it was for 4 pm. I know it was my own fault that i did'nt check the time but that said no effort was made by staff to call our room when i hadnt arrived at the spa at 4pm. I was in the room all afternoon and no call was made. I was offered a rescheduled massage for following morning but we didnt have the time to avail but were still charged.
Cleanliness was very good with lots of cleaning and sanitisation and all staff wearing face masks.
Over all let down by silly things that shouldnt happen in a 5 star hotel. You expect the best of the best but unfortunatly this didnt happen for us. For the money it isnt value, better 4 star hotels/resorts out there for less money and better service and food.

Dear Damien G, Its very disappointing to read your comment and review of your stay in Monart. It really reads that what we offer or the way we do things is just not to your taste, as it's not in keeping with the vast majority of the reviews and comments posted here . Monart is unique in what it offers and is a big hit with many , i am really sorry that we did not met with your expectations . regards Mark Browne

Had a very enjoyable stay at Monart Spa. Lovely spacious room, with hotel definitely not crowded and felt v happy with regards social distancing. Adult only was a definite bonus and added to the calm atmosphere. Everywhere was cleaned constantly. The Spa was lovely with the number of the guests in the hotel and not crowded. I can see why some posts pre Covid speak of too many guests in the Spa. Given it's the only thing to do at the hotel if they were running at full capacity it would be crowded. The steam room is not in use at present due to Covid restrictions. The food was very good although be aware that you need to reserve for the restaurant and Garden Lounge with the latter closing at 7.30pm with no flexibility. No tea/coffee facilities in rooms and have to wait on Room Service. Also no wifi in rooms either. Newspapers can be read in old house only. The idea being to withdraw from Modern Living and Relax and def did relax.

From once we entered the gates to our departure Monart staff are amazing. We enjoyed a relaxing stay recently in the luxurious surroundings of the spa. We enjoyed lunch pre-check in to get to into a relaxed frame of mind. We spent the afternoon experiencing what the spa had to offer. Rooms were spacious and very comfortable and the turn down service was a nice touch. We dined in the restaurant that night where we enjoyed tasty food from efficient and friendly staff. Breakfast continues to be a sit-down affair but still relaxing. All rooms in the old house area were very chilled to ensure all guests were relaxed. We were thoroughly relaxed from our wonderful stay.

Just back from my second visit to Monart, and we've already booked in again for next year. We originally booked in for 2 nights this time, but just could not bring ourselves to leave, so enquired about an extra night, and we were very lucky that they could accommodate us. From start to finish our experience was amazing.
The bedrooms are lovely, with extremely comfortable beds and lovely views of the grounds. We were on the ground floor and loved being able to open the sliding door in the bedroom and walk out. Dinner in the restaurant was included on one night in our package and it was fabulous. We especially loved the Choux Bun dessert and would highly recommend it. We also dined in the bar on a few occasions and the food was equally lovely, with the added bonus of being able to go in our robes. Breakfast has a lovely selection also, and on one morning we took advantage of room service breakfast which was brought to our bedroom on time, and laid out fantastically with even a table cloth brought for the table. We were highly impressed.
The spa was amazing. The thermal suite has a lot of different options. I particularly loved the caldarium and the infra red back treatment. There's plenty of places to relax, with two different relaxation rooms, heated loungers in with the hydrotherapy pool, and a few normal loungers in the main spa area. There's also a few different rooms in the old house to relax in, and you can have drinks from the bar brought over to you there.
The absolute highlight of Monart though is the wonderful staff! From the moment you pull up outside in the car, to the moment you leave again, every person you meet is extremely friendly, helpful and many of them have a fantastic sense of humor. Some five star establishments can make you feel a bit on edge with how formal everyone is. We loved the fact that the staff added immensely to the overall sense of relaxation. They are an absolute credit to the establishment!
I cannot recommend Monart highly enough. I have a couple of chronic pain conditions, and I left today feeling completely pain free, which is a rarity indeed. We will be counting down the days until we return again. Thank you for making our break away so wonderful!

I had been to Monart a few years ago and really enjoyed it, since then they have slimmed back on the experience but the price is still the same. The bedrooms are very comfortable and large but the bathrooms are small, small bath, one head in the shower I would expert more for the price and 5 star. The staff are so friendly and the service is excellent, valet on arrival etc. However, a number of times we had to look for a waiter to order a drink when we were in the games room. We ate in the bar on the first night, the wine was superb but food was average. I wish we had gone out it would have been cheaper and definitely nicer! We ate in the main restaurant on the second night it was excellent this was the best part of the weekend, service superb!
The breakfast is a let down, there is no buffet, you even have to order juice from the waiter the only drink that are available is water! The breakfast was tasty but again it is definitely not what I had expected and the fruit was out of a tin.
We paid €90 each for massage, mine was very good but my boyfriend was very disappointed with his, it was supposed to be an hour but it was 40 minutes, he wanted a female but got a male and he didnt seem to know how to massage. I would have assumed that those employed here wold be skilled at their professions. The spa is very clean and a nice way to spend a couple of hours, it is super busy though so hard to relax. I dont think we will be returning here.

Dear Feehyland18 , Thank you for taking the time to write your review. While there are some positive comments , I am at a loss as to why you would say that we slimmed back on what you experienced before ? If any thing we add and constantly improve our offering . While we can not be responsible for one personal taste , the facility and team are top notch . All of our therapists are highly trained and knowledgeable in their field of expertise . I am disappointed to read that you would not return , as its not in line with all of the previous comments post here . regards Mark Browne

Myself and my aunt have come to The Monart for the past 9 years and I have to say we really come away feeling relaxed and revitalized. When you arrive at the door, your car is parked for you by one of the staff, I want to give a mention to Michael whom we have gotten to know over the years coming to The Monart and he really is great at his job. He is so engaging with everyone and really tries his best to make you feel special.
Jennifer on the front desk is amazing at her job and nothing that we asked her was a problem. Also another Jennifer in the spa was so friendly. All staff were exceptional.
I have 2 small complaints, in the spa area after a treatment you get really nice tea I think its honey and ginger but in a cup that is tiny and holds about 2 mouthfuls. Could this be looked at and the cup size changed??
In the Spa Cafe we got a watermelon salad which was a really small portion, with a price of 10.50, felt it was really expensive especially when a large salad was 7.50.
We will be back next year, keep up the good work..

We went to Monart Spa as a special birthday treat for a friend whose significant birthday was during lockdown. She was certainly made feel very special from the birthday plate at Afternoon Tea to the bottle of bubbles in our room on checkin.
We felt extremely safe while in Monart and the attention to detail in respect of Covid-19 was excellent. From the moment we arrived at the gates to the moment we left each and every staff member was extremely poliet, friendly and efficient. Nothing was too much trouble. They certainly made our stay special. Every area of the hotel was spotless and continuously sanatised. Our room was serviced daily with turn down service every evening.
Monart was on my bucket list of places to visit in Ireland, because of Covid-19 and no foreign travel this year I'm delighted we made the decision to visit Monart. I enjoyed my trip so much that I have actually booked for my husband and myself to return in January 2021.
Couldn't recommend Monart highly enough. A little bit of Heaven in Ireland.

Breakfast is served in the conservatory and Tigerettes is a table. Of juices, breads and cereals . They also offer full Irish and omelettes as well as fresh fish - no idea of the cocktails sorry
There are doors to outside seating areas from the Reception Area, Garden Lounge and Spa Lounge Area and Spa Main that all link up to the pond/garden area so whilst I don't smoke yes no matter where you are you can pop outside (on a lounger or seat if preferred and get back to where you were indoors easily. Also, each room has a balcony.
ann o, you are going to have an amazing time. I've seen others on their own too, and now with restrictions lifted, the spa will be open to day users also, some of which will be alone too.
Tips I'd give you are:
- in the spa there is a circuit to follow (if you're not shown, ask one of the spa staff to advise) and if you go through each of the spa areas, pool and then rest in one of the relaxation rooms, you'll easily pass 3 or 4 hours. I've found people chatty in the spa areas (ie, saunas, steam room, salt room, etc.) so you'll be in good company. You might want a book to read in the relaxation room or take a nap. There's a cafe in the spa area too.
- as for eating/drinking - if you only have one night, I'd say go to the garden bar for dinner; the staff are so lovely and it is very cozy. Bring a paper/book and dine and drink and relax.
- the grounds are lovely and safe to walk around
- there are also rooms in the original house where you can sit & relax and access wifi
- bring a bottle of vino with you and you can have it in your room or on your terrace (you might get mild weather in feb!!); hotel will bring you an ice bucket and glass.
Really, if you're going to go anywhere on your own for a real break, this is the place to go. Enjoy every minute of it.
