A small party of us stayed in the hotel a few weeks ago and really enjoyed ourselves in this family friendly establishment. Based in rural County Tipperary it is close to Thurles, Holy Cross and Cashel which while worth visiting are nothing out of the ordinary and so it was important that the hotel was comfortable.
Bed and bathrooms were well appointed with good amenities, safe, iron and ironing board, hair dryer and tea and coffee making facilities. Noise was not a problem, and everyone slept soundly. All staff were friendly and approachable.
The only down-side was that we thought food prices were slightly on the expensive side but there was no quibble about the size of portions or the quality of the food presented.
All in all an excellent establishment and well worth a visit.

We had large family birthday celebration at this County Tipperary. The Staff were friendly and helpful and very tactful in getting us all into the banqueting room which was bright and comfortable. The table service was excellent and friendly and the food I had was scrumptious --- a toor dall with rice. From the cleaned plates of my companions the various steaks, chicken and fish dishes were equally appreciated as was the delicious deserts.. I would certainly visit here for a meal again. I loved the comfortable informal seating areas to have a chat and the bar with disco gave choice of activities.

The rooms and facilities are ok (if a bit dated), the bar food i felt is over priced and not good value (the toasted sandwich & chicken wrap arrived with not much else ....e.g no chips or crisps with either, just a small bit of salad garnish)

The leisure facilities were excellent and the COVID restrictions were very well managed

The service is reasonably ok but some of the bar/coffee staff could use some training. The staff used COVID to order the customers about, but didn't wear any masks despite them being the highest risk to transmit as they interact and go between parties in the bar and restaurant.

Stopped here with some family members for lunch. Food and service was very good and really enjoyed my lunch however, the only covid 19 procedures in place from what I could see was hand sanitizing station on entering. Staff in restaurant wore no masks, menus were regular menus not disposable or virtual and regular salt and pepper mills still in use and no contact details were taken from any of us on entering. It was very disappointing from a Hotel with 4 stars to say the least. I really felt management could do alot more to keep staff and general public safe.

Thank your for your review. We do understand your concern during these challenging times. You can be assured that the management and team here are taking all covid regulations extremely seriously and are working extremely hard to ensure that we adhere to all guidelines. We have gained the Failte Ireland Safety Charter Certificate for adhering to such guidelines. We have our safety document available on-line to read which details all measures taken within each department of the hotel. In our dining areas tables have been set out to comply with social distancing measures. All tables, laminated menus & condiments are washed and sanitised after use. Contact tracing details are taken from all customers on arrival. I am unsure why this was not the case with your party however it may be because you had made an advance booking in which case details had been already taken. Staff in various departments of the hotel, where distancing cannot take place are wearing face coverings. We will continue to monitor the situation and make any changes that we deem necessary for the safety of our staff and customers.

We often come for dinner here at the weekends but when we want to treat ourselves we book in with our little girls for a couple of nights stay. The four of us absolutely love everything about this hotel, the swimming pool and changing areas are fab and the spa facilities are brilliant too. There is an on-site hair dresser, bakery, gift shop, the original bar full of horse racing memorabilia, interesting art, a lobby full of the most comfy couches, dedicated area for afternoon tea, large comfortable bedrooms and the whole place is immaculate. There is a great buzz around the place the whole time, the car park is always busy and when you see the menu youll understand why. The food is absolutely gorgeous and served up so efficiently by the best staff I have seen, at any hotel in the country, and I don't say that lightly. A lot of them have been here for years and work as a huge close knit family from what I can see, all overseen by the owner who is just a lovely man and works alongside them cleaning tables and looking after customers. Special mention to our server Ollie for whom nothing is ever any trouble and also to reception and the night porter who are very friendly and helpful. Thank you for another lovely stay!

Having arrived in West Cork on camping trip had to do an emergency run back to Wicklow at 8pm then turnaround and drive straight back to West Cork first thing next morning with replacement tent. I pulled in here hoping they would still be open post Covid lockdown etc . I need not have feared as from the moment I walked in the door I was superbly looked after. Once the member of staff had taken my contact details for tracing they directed me to a sanitised table. Once they heard my story of woe I was looked after and my batteries recharged!!
The shop was a lovely tempting pitfall but that's part of the charm and the reason I was happy to be solo as I could shop peacefully.
100% top marks to all the staff for a really safe and comfortable place to stop and break a long journey. Thankyou x

Twice in one week we were with family and lunches at the cafe next to the spa.
1. Lunch ordered and asked for water which when served was warm. My open sandwich on soda bread was truly awful. I dismantled it to scrape off a lot of 'margarine'. The chicken was sparce and thinly sliced. It was covered in so sort of egg salad to give it an appearance of bulk. It tasted utterly bland and tasteless. The waitness that served us appeared totally disinterested and showed no sign of job fulfillment. Not as much as enjoy your food and at no stage asked if everything was alright with our food.
2. On the second occasion I avoided lunch but we were served by a young waitness that could not have been more helpful. Served us with two jugs of iced water. Nothing was too much and her service and friendliness was in start contrast to the previous encounter.
Only for the second waitress there would have been only 1 star rating but the second visit will have us give this hotel another visit.
I do hope the hotel management do something about staff training and food presentation.

Visited recently with family returning from a lovely day out. When we arrived we were shown to a table by a female member of staff, then we were left sitting without any menus, after about 15 minutes another staff member asked if we had ordered, we told her we didn’t even see the menu. She brought us menus And we placed our orders and had a drink while waiting, it took over half an hour before our food finally arrived, I have to say the food quality was not good, almost cold and soggy vegetables too, I only discovered today that one of our group only got 1 cod and a tiny piece in his plate, while someone else got 2. We paid over and above for our main course and drinks and we all agreed that the menu is over priced for what you get. I also need to say that there was a gentleman cleaning down tables and was not wearing any mask. For a 4 star hotel we expected so much better.

I have stayed at 'The Jockey' a number of times now over the past few years, whilst visiting family who live nearby. The positives are: lovely rooms, very clean, comfortable beds (superior rooms can't comment on the others), and a lovely atmosphere in the bar/restaurant The negatives: The leisure centre needs serious deep cleaning, the pool area, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi area all need intensive cleaning and then regular routine cleaning thereafter. The changing rooms and pool area all need attention. I have visited at least 8 times in the last 24 months and am just dismayed that such a fantastically run hotel in every other regard, has not sorted this out. The facilities themselves would be superb if they were clean.

We have stopped here for lunch many times when travelling from Cork to Dublin and visa versa and we have always found the found to be fantastic, so we decided to stay here for a night last week as an Xmas treat to ourselves. Upon arrival 3pm our room was ready which I have to say was spotless & enormous and everything you need was there. The rooms have A/C which were grand and warm. We had out tea and a few drinks and sat in the lounge where there are plenty of couches to laze on and we retired to our comfy bed and had a great nights sleep. Breakfast was from 730 to 11am and there is a fine spread to suit all tastes Really enjoyed our stay Thank you
