Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed in Horse & Jockey Hotel several times. Always a great experience. This visit was no exception. Lovely room, lovely food, friendly staff. Fabulous food shop where so many Irish products are sold. Lady in The Gift Horse shop is so friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back again. Must visit spa next time.

Travelling through Tipperary, stopped in Cashel for food to find nowhere open. Horse and Jockey recommended by a local. Restaurant very busy. Queued for approximately 20mins for a table. No apology from staff. Place felt chaotic. Food order taken quickly and delivered quickly. Food was overpriced for what it was. Children had tasteless pasta with a red sauce.

Over the years I've stayed at the Horse and Jockey hotel on a number of occasions and, in general terms, have always been very happy. The coffee shop personnel always impressed with their efficiency and courtesy and on one occasion the shop assistant went way beyond the call of duty to gift wrap an item which we hadn't even bought in the shop. However, not all my experiences were great. When Covid-19 restrictions began to ease I looked for a location for a family re-union and decided on the Horse and Jockey Hotel because of its central location and because of my past experiences. In total sixteen of us stayed from Friday evening to lunch time on Sunday. All told we parted with a large number of euros. Though rooms were good and the food was satisfactory throughout the weekend we found the hotel very impersonal. At no stage did anybody care to ask if everything was alright or if we were enjoying ourselves. Some of my family had come from overseas and it is fair to say that they were very disappointed at the absence of any degree of friendliness from management or staff. The overall verdict was that we would not be in a hurry to return to the Horse and Jockey Hotel - especially for a family re-union. Dermot T.

We stopped for lunch passing by as I have often done before. I have rarely felt welcomed here but the food is usually good. However today was tiresome. We were left waiting a long time for a table even though tables were empty. Staff weren’t interested and we were largely ignored. I think I’m future this is suited to a person grabbing a quick bite en route somewhere but not for anything where an enjoyable eating experience is desired.

Visited for Sunday lunch with family as did many others by the size of th queue . Don’t usually review but have to give credit where it’s due.. There’s not enough positive reviews for such a place.. Lovely young girl dealing with people waiting going down finding out size of each party.. we were a3 with bigger groups ahead of us.. queue moved fast as soon as people left past us she was back at entry area with a grin inviting the next lucky crowd inside.. amazing to watch them all work from the outside.. mostly young but impressive staff.. our host appeared again talking to the big group ahead of us before coming to bring us inside first .. she lead us into “ the snug “ a small cosy corner table tucked away.. she joked with the bigger group (of 7 adults !!) as we passed that it was a bit small for them but she had a booth table coming up for them.. menus were delivered and we waited to order (waited a while but they were very busy.. table was hidden away a bit) .. host appeared again to take out order and reassured us that drinks and food would not be long ( which it wasn’t !!) Great roast beef with excellent gravy and even nicer dessert which our server insisted we try.. Credit to all staff who were ran off their feet & queue was even bigger leaving !! Got a lovely goodbye on our way out as the host stood back to let us out with sanitizer ready to get our table ready to g again.. great systems theyve got in place very organised even through lunch rush and great food to back it up!! Great to see management getting stuck in with the rest.. Will be back well done !!!

Atrocious To be clear this is my 3rd visit. 1st was bad 2nd was fine 3rd was the last. Took a spin up today as I've been told the hotel is actually great after getting pretty poor food on 2 other occasions so I said 3rd time is the charm and took a drive up from Clonmel. Arrived to a packed car park which was encouraging. Had to wait a few minutes but since it was Sunday was to be expected. We were seated by the waitress who pointed at the table and said "you can sit there". No hello no how are you. Nowt. We had just sat down and were reading the menu when another waiter appeared to take our order so we both ordered a soup and a roast beef. Our soups arrived and it was fine I suppose you could most certainly describe it as soup. Bit bland but soup nonetheless. The "brown scone" that came with the soup was a very hard roll which could cause serious injury if thrown. It was OK, I finished it. Another waitress took our bowls and we waited nearly 15 minutes and no sign of our main courses so I put up my hand and called over the 1st waitress and asked her when was the story with our mains and I received a reply of they are on the way with a how dare you tone. I was taken aback this rude girl (black rimmed glasses with tied up hair) who just walked away and feigned cleaning a table. Eventually my main course arrived. Cold. Well presented but cold. State of the Yorkshire pudding. So I call over my 4th server and told her my food was cold and she takes it back. She did say sorry so she's already ahead on points on the previous mentioned rude bespectacled waitress. Anyway, the waitress returns with my new lunch......no knife or fork, had to call another (5th) waitress over to get cutlery. Finally I have all the gear I have the food and it warm....sorted.....right?........WRONG Terrible. The veg may as well come from a fozen bag. Mashed spuds weren't cooked enough and whoever mashed them tried to mask this with cream and no seasoning. The beef was mostly fat and the beef itself was bleh. My father went and paid for this fiasco under the guise of going to the bar. I put the large amount of fat into a napkin and asked another waiter (6th) to speak to the supervisor or manager about it and he arrived quickly. Got a refund but he wasn't overly keen in hearing about my experience. So 7 staff members later and 2.crap lunches(3 if you count my dads but he isnt one for complaining) and you leave horse and jockey hungry and annoyed. Won't.ever in my life go back

We have stayed at Horse and Jockey hotel many times but. Never during the Christmas break. . we have always enjoyed our previous visits and this time was no exception. That being said I felt it necessary to put a few points on trip advisor. The entire time we were there it was extremely busy. When staff are under sustained pressure for an entire shift for 3 days back to back it would understandable if they weren’t as friendly or engaging as you would hope. Or the kitchen trying to keep up with demand might let something slip that wouldn’t be to their normal standards. It would be forgivable. But no need for any customer understanding or forgiveness when you’re at the Horse and Jockey. The level of service we received was exceptional, the quality of the food was exceptional, how the staff continued to smile and engage with the customer by the end of their shift like they were the first customer of the day. Exceptional!!. Thanks for making our stay with you so relaxing. Can’t wait for our return visit.

This pub purports to also offer accommodation. It’s a joke! This was one of the worst experiences ever. The price was supposed to include continental breakfast. We found two small cornflake boxes and an opened carton of milk in a tiny fridge in our room. The heating didn’t work. The toilet was broken. And the staff were school kids. To be avoided!!

The room was a good size and spotlessly clean with a very comfortable bed. Dinner was delicious and service very quick. They also have a coffee shop, gift shop and bakery on site. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for somewhere to eat/stay in this area.
