Detailed Reviews
A very comfortable and pleasant stay. Anna and her husband Robert could not have been more helpful or welcoming. On arrival I was given keys to the house and my room. This made it possible to come and go as I pleased which was very useful as I was visiting my niece living locally and getting back quite late in the evening. The house is modern and obviously maintained to a high standard, attractively furnished with a comfortable lounge available for the use of the guests and containing a Smart TV. Wifi reception was good in the lounge but intermittent in my bedroom.
Breakfast offered a great choice of fruit, delicious homemade granola, yoghurt, soda bread, croissants etc, as well as a full Irish fry-up, juice and a choice of tea and freshly brewed coffee. All excellent.
My ensuite room was small but well equipped, centrally heated if required, with a good shower, tea making facilities, TV and, most importantly, a very comfortable bed.
I did not need evening meals but about 300 yards up the road are two pubs, said to be good, serving meals until 8pm.
Thank you Anna and Robert for making my stay so enjoyable.

We visited Boherna Lodge again and everything was just as good as last time. Anna and Robert can’t do enough to help. The rooms are spotless and very comfortable and breakfast is just perfect and sets you up for the day. The location is perfect for getting to the surrounding areas and with 2 pubs in easy walking distance there is always somewhere to eat in the evening

We decided to have a week in Southern Ireland after our flight to Jersey was cancelled. We didn't have anything booked and when we got to Thurles we just stopped and searched online for a B&B. A few came up and we phoned them but the only one who answered was Anna, at Boherna. We stayed with her and her husband, Robert for 4 nights. They were so friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble and if we're ever that direction again we'll certainly stay there again.

We go to Boherna lodge every year and have done for the past 25 years.
Our hosts, Anna & Robert are two of the most fantastic and friendly people, you could ever meet in your lifetime.
Nothing is to much trouble, they are more like family and that’s how we feel about them.
Accommodation and breakfasts are excellent, I cannot praise this couple highly enough and would highly recommend this bed and breakfast as the best I’ve ever stayed in.
Thank you both once again, this year for making our holiday complete, we’ve had such another brilliant holiday. X

We chose this bed and breakfast on the strength of good tripadvisor reviews. It is in a beautiful location near Holy Cross Abbey. The woman running it was friendly and accommodating, but I'm sorry to say that overall it did not live up to previous reviews. Our bathroom was very small, and the shower didn't work properly. A working shower is a fairly necessary feature when you are travelling. The breakfast was disappointing, and the coffee much too weak. The rooms, bathrooms in particular, are in immediate need of an updating. The mystery is that it wouldn't take much to transform this operation into something worthy of the earlier reviews.

We spent one night at Boherna Lodge and rented 2 bedrooms - Anna was extremely welcoming and helpful. The rooms were good so was the breakfast. We enjoyed our stay and would certainly use Boherna lodge again should we be in that part of the world

We stayed in Boherna lodge for one night in April 2010. We booked the lodge in advance via e-mail and the owner was fast and efficient in answering our questions and making a booking for us. When we finally arrived we did not like the room at all but decided to stay for the night as we were tired to look for something else and because we had promise to stay there before. The room was not cleaned long before. The linen had a smell of mould. We decided to take a tea and discovered that we were served a nice milk. Of green color... And not very liquid... I suppose that the milk was not changed for several months. There was a lot of spider's webs in all the house. It was very cold during the night. The owners turned on the heater for about 15 minutes in the evening and then turned it off.
In the mourning we discovered that there is not hot water. I tried to find the owners and finally located them by phone. I was asked to take my shower in their's bathroom which had an electrical heater. They promised to switch the heater on by 7 am, but we had hot water just for 10-15 minutes and then just cold water ran from the tape.
Irish breakfast was also not very good because the bread had the smell of mould.
It seems that the owners are just bad housekeepers because even in their part of the house everything is not kept and cleaned properly.
I should mention that this lodge was the most expensive for us in Ireland and definitely the worst. I do not recommend staying in this place because there are so many good and clean B&Bs available to choose from.

Yes! I keep returning. Once again visiting relatives nearby I contacted Anna and Robert at short notice and found they had a room for me. Once again they were gracious hosts, scones and tea on arrival with a great old chat. The room was comfortable and spotlessly clean as always. The breakfast was a delicious traditional Irish of course although I passed on the baked beans!!Warm and gracious hosts and would thoroughly recommend if staying a while in the area.

It was our 3rd visit to Boherna Lodge , so I guess that says something! Anna and Robert are excellent hosts, they were very welcoming and gracious hosts yet again. The rooms are very clean and the breakfast to die for-especially the scrambled eggs- cancel any ideas of lunch!!!
Attention to detail, and the little things make this B&B a must stay if in the Holycross/Thurles area.
