The Hippo View Lodge is both really nice and sometimes rather challenging. The grounds are amazing and huge -- Beautiful green grass, all kinds of trees, scattered tables under pavilions. And it's right along the Shire river, which does have hippos! We could see them from the hotel and hear them snorting! We also took a 1 hour river trip...

Malawi most beautiful of countries needs an up market western standard hotel from which you can explore its attractions. Hippo View is ideally placed and at first sight has the facilities but is fatally flawed by a management that would make Basil Fawlty look efficient On arrival we were accompanied to our room by a member of staff who made...

Rooms are bad, linens and towels have seen better days. Food is also substandard, a lot of items on menu are not available or only available on weekends. Basic things like cheese and tomato sandwich was horrible. Building and structure look out of place with no regard for architecture sense. Depending on which room assigned to you, you could be...

Upon arrival the receptionist that had made the reservation was not on duty and he had not left a message or info for his colleague. After one hour With back and fort discussion I was offered a room for twice the price agreed on phone. On check out the receptionist taking the booking was on duty and showed me where...

I am a member of a Christian Support group and we spent 2 weeks helping and working in Malawi. We were going to stay in Chilama but due to problems we stayed at the above lodge for 2 nights. A pleasant place on the River Shire, so we saw many hippos and birds. Rooms pleasant, restaurant OK. Extra charge for...

I was here while we conducted a project in the region. The restaurant menu is large but virtually nothing was available. Only 1/4 chicken and chips, some Chinese and Indian food. The internet is almost unusable and relatively expensive. Rooms not serviced with towels and toilet paper. BUT the most horrible thing is that when I went to close my...

I recently had the opportunity to visit this facility for a 2 day training. The facility is conveniently located-about 2 hours away from Blantyre.Has a nice view of River Shire and the environment is serene and quiet-good for reading or any private meditation. The food was great and the portions were generous. The staff was very friendly and helpful to us.Felt that the...

The rooms are basic without a proper desk for business, the kitchen is full of oil and expired items, management is not interested to improve the quality, the main goal seems to be making money without any interest of the customers views

I have been there some times, but all of them for business. Some times in conferences, others passing by. If you are passing by and need a place to stay and relax, it is worth. Otherwise, for you will not find anything special, but their boat safari inward Shire River, where you can spot some crocs and hippos.

I was in the Hippo Lodge for two weeks during a project in Liwonde. After reading the reviews, I was sceptic to say the least - but as no other options are available according to Tripadvisor, the decision was made for Hippo View Lodge. The estate is enormous, and the main building housing the reception, conference rooms and restaurant are...
