This was probably our favourite place we stayed during our tour to the north of Malawi. The rooms are beautiful, the welcome very personal and the food was really good. The lake here is beautiful and so nice that it's bilharzia-free (regularly tested). It really is like being at the seaside. Our kids loved it.

I visited Chintheche Inn last weekend and I had a wonderful time. I live in Malawi full-time and it's been a challenge to find good places to rest and enjoy Lake Malawi. This place is a hidden jewel among plenty of lodges by the Malawi lake. We didn't spend the night here, but during our stay in Chintheche (volunteering at a primary school) we visited the lodge several times. Ian, the manager, is an extremely friendly guy. He makes you feel at home. The food is great, the prices are great and...

Lovely people and management. Great rooms with an even better view. The food at the restaurant was spectacular and prepared with much gusto and full of flavour. Try the butter fish and kampango for something different. While you're here do some snorkelling and visit the rubber and macadamia plantations.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Chintheche Inn is set in extensive, lush gardens dotted with splendid, shady trees and overlooking Lake Malawi which, oceanlike, stretches to the horizon. The distant Viphya Mountains form a dramatic backdrop. There is a central dining area and bar, and meals often take place (weather permitting) under the stars or in a secluded corner of the garden, near the large swimming pool. Chintheche Inn boasts some of the finest beaches on the lakeside as well as excellent freshwater activities such as boating and snorkelling. Meeting and interacting with the local people, biking through villages and learning about the Chintheche Tree Planting initiative from our staff are just a little of what makes the friendly, laid-back Inn such a unique place to visit. Birdlife is abundant, while the reclusive mutable sun squirrel may be sighted in the gardens. ... more   less
