#1 of 5 hotels in Calodyne
Travellers' Choice
Zilwa Attitude, situated on the north coast of Mauritius, in Kalodyne, is different. Its Mauritian concept breathes throughout its architecture, decoration, cuisine and experiences offered. In Creole, zilwa means an islander. Entirely thought and designed with the aim of sharing the simple and genuine life of the islanders with its guests, this 4* hotel is a hymn to Mauritius. Right through, the choice of artists’ work and local material used are true illustrations of the prevailing Mauritian soul. Zilwa Attitude offers a panoramic view over the 5 northern islands. The contemporary and rustic chic architecture and design of the hotel take inspiration from the traditional homes, the old seaside bungalows. The 214 rooms have been customized to match the needs and expectations of each guest; in each category, the rooms have their own identity and personality.

We stayed for 2 weeks to celebrate our honeymoon, The location and scenery of the hotel was amazing. All the hotel staff members where amazingly polite and more then willing to always help and give great service. Special kudos to Arvind and the bar team! they never stopped working and always had a smile on their face and would ask if everything was ok!. The rooms are designed to be a Mauritian style cultured room which we really liked and we were given a good location in terms of walking distance to all bars, pools and the beach. All of the pools were very clean and had enough space to not ever get congested. The sea water was always turquoise and the little boat trip to the isolate island for the BBQ was amazing. In terms of the front of house team at Zilwa, I honestly give them a 10/10, truly amazing people!. Our only slight disappointment was the quality of the food, unfortunately for the price we had paid for all inclusive, special set meals where not included in this, the seafood buffet was only available once a week (Thursday), its a shame to be on an island in the Indian ocean and have to wait a week for some fish and not have a large variety of fishes on the menu. We were not so impressed with the other seafood items such as the mussels and calamari being overly dry/cooked. The tune tartare was almost grey in colour as opposed to the fresh dark pink/red it should be. There was only 1 whole fish option being cooked on the buffet, if you wanted a snapper you had to reserve and pay for this at the Lor Disab. Waiting times for food was a bit too long, I can understand being overwhelmed in the kitchen but during Kot Nou (probably the best restaurant we ate at) we almost had to wait 45mins between the cold tapas and hot tapas, that our appetite had diminished by the time the hot tapas were served. Even during lunch time the staff are so overwhelmed that on 2 or 3 occasions we waited almost 40 mins for our sandwiches/burgers. Eventually we had grown bored of sandwiches and burgers that we reserved a lunch buffet at Lor Disab, and the 2 times we went, both times there was around 2 or 3 items missing from the buffet menu. Our best lunch experience was at the Gran Zil bbq where the beef was incredibly tender, unlike our first Lor Disab lunch the beef bbq was way to chewy. I genuinely think the only thing in the way of Zilwa being a 5 star mega resort, is its food variety, quality and freshness. Its also a shame that fruits are only served during breakfast, on one occasion at dinner, i had to approach a chef who was kind enough once to give us some fruits on request but there was never any on the buffet table, except pineapple at times. Another thing I found strange was the bar snacks, the only thing available was dried noodles, there was no crisps, nuts or any other bar snack available unless we bought some form the bulk shop, I think that's not good enough for an all inclusive package. The excursions we had gone on with Big John and Costa were fantastic, Ile Aux Cerf's was an amazing experience and so was the waterfall tour with Big John, they were both very nice and easy going. In conclusion we will always consider coming back however the only thing that may deter us is the food quality and its waiting time.

Returned yesterday from the most wonderful 2 weeks at Zilwa Attitude. So much about this hotel and Mauritius is amazing but the staff at this hotel go above and beyond, and really ensure all the guests have a fantastic time. I had emailed the hotel before our arrival to book some restaurants and advise it was my husband's 50th birthday. I also mentioned that he has mobility issues and uses a crutch and we required a ground floor room. As soon as we arrived they acknowledged his birthday and all the staff went out of their way to help my husband get around on his crutch. The speciality restaurants are all fantastic but Tadka was our absolute favourite. The BBQ lunch on Grand Zil was delicious and plentiful. I booked a candelight meal on the beach and the food quality and service was excellent, although a little over-priced at £30 pp when the food is the same as provided at Lor Disab and which is already paid for in the all-inclusive plan ! The birthday cake for my husband was a lovely extra touch. Our room was very clean and an ideal location. The watersports are very good and we made full use of the pedaloes, glass bottom boat and kayak. All the staff were so friendly but I especially want to mention Asson the FB Supervisor who brought me a bag of paper straws when I lost my metal straw. Asson is so friendly and caring - a real credit to the hotel team. Also Arvind a kind and friendly barman in Kiro Sann and Rohan who always rushed over to help my husband up and down the steps. Arnaud - who works so hard and long hours and always with a smile and exceptional service. Cannot forget Steve and Kevin as well from the boathouse who made our catamaran trip so special and good fun, and the beach bar guys Visram and Bahoo (? hope i've got their names right). We have never before stayed in a hotel where we can say every one of the staff were a delight to know. Zilwa management should be SO proud of their employees. There were just a couple of niggles and I hope they may be taken as constructive criticism and not as complaints. Prior to arrival I had to chase an email response from the Spa Manager to my request to book a couples massage at Ti Zil - the smaller island. It took a few weeks but the manager eventually replied but said that due to Covid protocols, there were no massages being held at Ti Zil and no couples massages at all. This was really disappointing, given that the massages are outside on Ti Zil and we travelled the island and other hotels were offering outdoors and couples massages. Really didn't understand what "Covid protocols" have anything to do with restrictions when you are a couple staying together, the massage is outside and the therapists work together ??! Very disappointing. I therefore went ahead and just booked a regular massage for my husbands birthday and the spa manager confirmed this via email. We turned up on 30 November at 4pm for the massage but they had clearly not written it in the book. There was no apology and instead they said to us "can you come back tomorrow ?". I said absolutely not as it was my husbands birthday today, we had plans tomorrow and they had CONFIRMED the booking on email. There was no apology but they told him to sit down and he had his massage. We really weren't very impressed with this service, especially given how good the rest of the hotel departments and teams were. It would be nice if the island - Grand Zil - could be reserved for adults only. There are 3 other beaches at Zilwa and therefore plenty of sand for children to play on. It would just be nice if adults had an area to themselves as the only part of the hotel which IS adults only (the pool up by the bar) does have children use it occasionally and children are in the bar area anyway. It would also be nice if the main bar area could be child-free after 9pm. We realise this is a family hotel but some evenings the Kiro Sann bar area was like a creche ! Small children running everywhere in a bar after 9pm is not ideal, so we instead therefore made our way to the boat bar La Pirogue at the other end of the complex where it is quieter, although again not child free. Totally on board with the recycling and environmental message the hotel is trying to convey but do feel the mini bar could have been stocked with water each day and coffee, milk, sugar and tea provided by housekeeping instead of guests having to go to the "shop" and collect them. You don't want to go shopping when you're on holiday ! Towel replenishment was a bit hit and miss. Some days we had more towels than we needed and other days we had one bath towel between us ! Room was very clean however. The bed mattress is very hard and I have to say I couldn't sleep on it. However, I mentioned it to Reception and they put a mattress topper on which helped. Overall the hotel was amazing and we would not hesitate to return :)

Lovely family hotel with very friendly staff, good service and good food- especially Tadka restaurant (indian) run by the great Bhavna. The smallest rooms are too small for the price but otherwise no issues.

What a lovely Hotel. The Food was varied and a Good Standard . Whilst the all inclusive drinks are 'Local' they are never the less a match for the international brands . The best thing of all are the Staff. Friendly , obliging and efficient, they just cant do enough to make you happy. Whilst all the staff deserve a mention there were two who made our stay particularly Good. Many thanks to Satyam and Visham well done

We stayed here for 10 days in early October for our 30th wedding anniversary. We absolutely loved it. Firstly all the staff were so friendly and helpful wherever you went - right from the moment you got out of the taxi from the airport . The restaurants and food were excellent. The bars were excellent especially the main bar. We loved the layout of the hotel with low level blocks spread through the trees. The watersports centre was great - we would recommend the catamaran trip. The view from the beach was amazing. The private island is only just offshore but we had a great lunch there - worth booking
