I was referred to this resort by a travel agent. She thought that it would be a great fit for someone traveling with teenagers. I will say that my kids had a great time but I would never return. The grounds keepers work very hard but the resort is dated and needs a lot of work. Parts of the bridges over the pools were breaking, and the tiles all around the pools are broken and super slippery. I watched so many kids and adults slip and almost fall. The bartenders are also the wait staff for the pool so you would often have to walk to the bar to get a drink. The pool was always filled with lots of debris. The food left a lot to be desired. The buffets were pretty gross! You have to use the same spoons or tongs for multiple items so if you have a food allergy good luck. The food choices are poor and most days I would just eat a roll. I read a lot about people getting sick before leaving. The tables aren't cleaned between guests and I had to ask for a new tablecloth at the main buffet because they sat us at a table full of crumbs. Forget getting a beverage at the main buffet as well. We would sit and wait in both the morning and night. Finally, we started bringing in drinks from the outside bars. The rooms are super dark and don't have enough outlets. The light over our sink was always flashing like a disco light so I needed to leave it off. They never provided hand towels or washcloths EVER! The staff asks you to leave great reviews and will sit next to you while you do it.…
I stayed here on vacation with family. Really enjoyed the stay. The activity staff is great and hard working especially Edgar (Tarzan), Richie and cc’s cola . The bar staff Adderly, “Baby Jesus” and Carolena. They made the trip enjoyable!
We enjoyed ourselves so much at the Majestic Colonial last week. Samy from the Animation Team was excellent. He encouraged my family to join the activities and games. We had so much fun. He made us come out of our shells and have a great time! We played games by the pool and at the beach. We danced the night away. He also made the foam party a great time.
First and foremost, this most definitely is NOT a 4.5 star hotel. Its rooms and some other common facilities are tired and not maintained properly. We arrived after an 11 hour flight and 30-minute taxi journey, tired and just wanting to go to our rooms. We had to wait over 40 minutes for our butler to show us to our room. This process took a further half an hour as we were grouped with other people for the introductory talk, which given some of our group were Spanish had to be delivered in two languages, further delaying our reaching our room. Once we got to our room we found that there was hardly any water pressure in the shower, the sheets were threadbare in places, as were the towels, and the railings on our balcony were downright dangerous. It was not until the second week that the water pressure problem was resolved. Part of the reason for booking this hotel was the promise of "six restaurants, five of which are a la carte". This is nonsense. The La Gourmet restaurant was distinctly average on our first visit. The air conditioning was not working properly and we left feeling dissatisfied. On our second visit, half the items on the menu were not available. We noticed that many people were leaving without finishing their meals. The advertised steak and fish restaurants are not separate venues but are merely part of the same beachside location divided in half. At lunchtime it doubles as a buffet. Our experience is that the service in all facilities in this area was slow. We waited 10 minutes on one occasion to be served at the bar. I suffered food poisoning from the lobster in the seafood restaurant, leaving me unable to leave my room for two days. The food in the Japanese restaurant is excellent, but the show put on by the chefs, though entertaining, precludes any conversation. That left the buffet, where the food was generally good and the staff were excellent. In fact, apart from the beachside area, the staff were outstanding, especially the barman, Leandro. Bored with the food available to us, one night we ordered room service. It was over an hour late and edible owing to it being left under cling film. The spirits on offer were local and of poor quality. Branded labels were sometimes not available. As for the other facilities, the gardens were superbly maintained. If the other facilities in the hotel were as well maintained it would be worth 4.5 stars, but they are not. The lazy river pool is in a poor state, with many mosaic tiles missing, the lifts were frequently out of order (we were on the fourth floor) and stair posts were damaged and could cut someone if they were not alert. The entertainment was okay, though the second week's programme was merely a repetition of the first. Towards the end of our stay we were approached by our butler with an envelope. He explained that he understood our stay had not been as it should have been and that the management wanted us to accept 120 hotel tokens to be used at the spa as compensation. When we opened the envelope we discovered that it contained a form inviting us to sign to say that on our return we would not post anything on social media and, in effect, not complain. We took exception to this negation of our rights and refused to sign. Opinions vary, but there is no way in which this hotel can be viewed as being 4.5 star and we recommend that people do not make the same mistake as we did.…
Party of 24 Checkin - At check in I was told room was not ready and waited 3 hours to get a room. Once In the room the bed had stains and was dirty. I requested to change rooms and was told their were overbooked. We were a party of 24 and booked multiple rooms. They then transferred me to the nearby resort majestic elegance even though everyone in my party was in in colonial. Room - The room at elegance was no better. It was dark had many Stains on the bedsheets and the lamp had been tapped together with electrical tape. The next day I requested to be transfer back to colonial. - The room at colonial was very outdated. The ac worked when it wanted to and you couldn’t regulate the temperature. There was cracks in the tiles and some of the outdoor lights didn’t work. The living room area didn’t have a tv. Instead they replaced it with a painting hanging on a tv wall mount - room service was hit or miss, meaning they would ignore your call and when they didn’t half the order didn’t show up. Food - it was hard to order a drink at an all inclusive restaurant! At the buffet, when the staff would ask if we wanted a drink. They would take the order and never bring the drink. We asked 2 times for drinks and eventually gave up and left. - a few people in our party got sick from the food. They use one utensil for multiple dishes and some food smells spoiled and rotten. - restaurants that require reservations are impossible to get. We managed to get a reservation at the French place and the next day a member from our party got sick from the tuna.…
We don’t understand why a bottle of water and a cup full of ice are so hard to request anywhere at this resort. Hotel room towels are just about the same- Shampoo and conditioner are never stocked even after the room is cleaned. You constantly have to look for someone outside your room to ask them to give you some shampoo and conditioner. Room gets so hot and humid in the middle of your sleep. The double sink leaks. You make sure that you are up early to have your breakfast because if you are a late riser there will not be a place for you to eat as the restaurants open again at 1230pm for lunch. No snacks available for you either. Always out of beach towels. This resort doesn’t even seems like it’s full beyond their capacity limit. It is not crowded at all but they act as if they are over booked. Doesn’t look like they are under staff either. Their staff doesn’t even try to go above and beyond. We have always gone to all inclusive resorts and this is our first time to come to DR and it will be our LAST. Will never recommend this place even to my worst enemy. Btw, this hotel can invest for an air freshener throughout the resort especially in all their rooms so it doesn’t smell funky. Their bedsheets and room towels can use an oxy clean or clorox too!…
BASIC TRAVEL DETAILS • June 2022 • Mother/Daughter Trip (teenage daughter) • 7 nights total • Junior Suite w/ Jacuzzi • Booked via CheapCarribean.com CONS • After a long day of traveling the advertised “cold towel and welcome drink” {or} “1 bottle of sparkling wine at arrival” was neither offered nor received. • Our room (#1320) had inadequate air conditioning. The temperature in our room was just a bit cooler than outside and never changed despite in-room thermostat adjustments and a supposed visit from hotel maintenance. It was so warm in the room that my teenage daughter occasionally SLEPT on the marble floors in an attempt to cool down. We inquired about getting a different room after our 1st of 7 night's stay and the front desk staff claimed they were unable to move us because there were no other rooms available at the time. However, they never made any effort to follow up with us or move our room during our remaining 6 night's stay either. (Additionally, a third-party individual confirmed that the building we were in was widely known to have AC problems and advised that no matter what we were told by hotel staff it would not get “fixed”, so best to have our room moved, which never happened.) • The view off our balcony was terrible. It was of what appeared to be the towel/laundry service building, which meant additional staff traffic, noise and nothing enjoyable to look at should I have wanted to enjoy a coffee or cocktail in the privacy of our room balcony. • The advertised “bathrobe and slippers” were not readily available and would have been extremely useful given the lack of privacy the bedroom/bathroom floor plan created. My teenage daughter frequently got dressed and/or applied sunscreen in the shower because she is far more modest than I am. The bathtub is basically located in the middle of the room with zero privacy, so her desire to soak her sore muscles after a horseback riding excursion we had gone on required her wearing a bathing suit. • Bath towels, while generous in size, were only changed/refreshed once during our 7-night stay. No hand or wash towels were ever provided, which seemed slightly unusual. • The room décor and furnishings were old and outdated. • We never used room service because we were unclear if it was included in our low-end package/room price or not and saw conflicting information in this regard, but the “separate door for room service” was odd and didn’t make any sense to me at all. • Finding a spoon to use for ice cream (typically served on a plate because we couldn’t find any bowls either) and cereal (often eaten out of a coffee cup) was near impossible. • My teenage daughter is a strict vegetarian and, especially in the various buffet dining restaurants, she was frequently unable to discern what foods she could eat. Plus, more often than not the utensils used to serve the vegetable dishes were also used to serve neighboring meat dishes. (If one had a true, life threatening, food allergy I can’t imagine how they would safely eat at these locations at all.) • Two of the many restaurants required “reservations”. I inquired about making some on our 1st full day at the resort and the soonest they had available were 4 and 5 days later. Good thing we didn’t wait to make those reservations and were booked to stay for 7 days, otherwise we might have missed out on those two restaurant experiences entirely. • Drink service was often busy and generally slow because of it. Plus, no two Miami Vice or Dirty Monkey drinks were the same, which wasn’t a big deal for us, but for somebody interested in either getting their drink on or their monies worth in alcohol, good luck. Perhaps tipping on top of the already included gratuities would have helped? • The hotel “app” was useful, but left me wanting way more. This is likely due to what I’m accustomed to in the states and my desire to be able to communicate more effectively using digital methods, since my verbal Spanish speaking skills are so terrible. Ha! • I bought a single cigar at the hotels Duty Free shop for $28 only to see it selling for just $9 in the airport Duty Free store a day later. Grr. • Do NOT drink anything other than bottled water! We were told that the water serviced at the tables in the restaurants was safe to drink, however, we both developed abdominal cramps, diarrhea and headaches about 5 day into our stay. Discomfort and symptoms have persisted for almost an entire week now. Our general practitioner feels confident it's from having contaminated water. PROS • The absolute best part of our 7 night stay and resort experience was SAMY! He helped to run the beach games. He learned our names the 1st day we arrived, greeted us by name each day and enthusiastically invited and encouraged us to participate in the various organized beach events: volleyball, soccer, dancing, yoga, misc. games, etc. This is where we spent the bulk of our time and it single-handedly made our stay enjoyable. • The majority of the staff were extremely friendly and happy to help, even despite our minimal ability to speak Spanish. • The beach area was well kept and lounge chairs were typically readily available. (We spent very little time at the pool.) • Despite having seen various comments about pushy beach venders, we found all of them to be quite respectful of our space and very accepting of our “no thank you” replies to their sales inquiries. • The general variety of food offerings was ample and its presentation was downright beautiful. • The Gym, while initially difficult to locate, was a nice offering. • While our room was an overall disappointment due to layout and lack of AC, I will say it was plenty spacious, clean and our maid service seemed to accommodate our varied daily schedule with ease, picked up on personal bed-making preferences and was always smiling and friendly. Additionally, our room was nicely located about halfway between the main lobby and the beach, so it was a convenient walking distance no matter what our destination. • The foam party at the pool was different and fun. We were lucky to catch it because we hadn’t seen it advertised or included on any of the entertainment schedules or the hotel app. • The pool area and accompanying landscaping/greenery was lovely! • Wifi service was adequate throughout the resort and sketchy on the beach, at best, but ultimately it was just as one might expect. ALL IN ALL Expectations are a pain. We didn’t have a bad time, by any stretch, but I didn’t feel as though we got what we paid for or all that was advertised either. If we choose to travel to Punta Cana again, I would highly likely try a different resort as opposed to returning to this one. PS: We are not experienced international travelers. I am fully aware that it’s possible some of these issues may have been better anticipated and/or handled better on our end and I fully admit that I was reluctant to ask for any additional help because of the struggles the language barrier alone presented.…
Where do I begin .? Oh….. at check in ! When arriving , I asked to see if buildings close to beach or close to pool ? “ Sorry….. you will need to Upgrade to see if we have those “ Next …. The room is Dark and No lights almost Anywhwre. ! Seriously…….. I used my phone to see into my suitcase. ! We went to the buffet and was Sooo disappointed. I’ve stayed in 6 resorts in Punta Cana in 2 years. This is the worst Food and worst service. And No one smiles from the restaurants to the Casino. Except the beach bar which was great. Mini bar was not stocked . Two towels for use . Old interiors even though online says renovation in 2017. Trying the restaurants was bad . No reservations in Japanese once we arrived. Mexican took 45 minutes, then appetizers and Entre all at once. Quality and Flavor made me just leave still hungry. In general….. 3 ☆ at best. And poor rating I’m Wvery category, and I’ve stayed at Occidental , El Faro, RIU Republica , Grand Bavaro , Melia , amd Dreams resorts. On a bad day …… Twice as good and I’m never using Majestic resorts nor recommend to anyone. With so many to choose from , I’m sorry I chose Colonial. My gf was very disheartened for her First expin the RD. Steve Mac…
Edgar on the animation team is the best! Wonderful resort, amazing food and service! This is our third time here and we would come back again for sure! The staff is very friendly and the entertainment is non stop!
We stayed for 10 nights at Majestic Colonial Punta Cana. We had a great time, the staff goes above and beyond to ensure you have a pleasant stay. We booked a room on the adults only Colonial Club part of the resort. By doing that you have acces to a private pool, private part of the beach, private reataurant and you are allocated a Butler who helps you with everything you might need. I have to mention our butler, Jacob, who was amazing and friendly, helping out with everything we needed. If you’re staying in the Colonial Club you can also request your butler a bottle of rum/whiskey etc (from a selection that you can find on their website). As honeymooners, we enjoyed our time here. They arranged the room for us with a nice Honeymooners sign on the door, they delivered breakfast in the room, we had a special dinner in the beach restaurant and got a bottle of sparkling wine. The beach restaurant is amazing and offers wonderful views. We mainly had breakfast and lunch here and dinner in the main restaurant. The food selection was varied and the food delicious. The beach in wonderful. The sand, the water, the palm trees, everything is amazing. It is worth waking up in the morning to enjoy the sunrise. Breathtaking views promised. Do not bother carrying with you towels, they provide plenty of them and are changed daily. I would recommend trying the parasailing, it is an awesome experience. If you want to do any trips, the Santo Domingo one and the Isla Saona one are the ones that we did and were very happy with our choice. The evening entertainment is very good and you don’t want to miss it. Thank you!…
