Just returned from our trip and can’t say enough good things about Grand Cana and our experience in general!! Everything was truly amazing, from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. The resort is beautiful, very spacious and not at all crowded. The food was great, both at the buffet and at all restaurants including the few we tried at the Reserve next door. The amenities were great and there were activities planned all day if you were interested, the resort is very easy to get around. The pools are very spacious, the chairs and cabanas are comfy, it’s easy to get towels and anything else you may need! Everywhere you went you were greeted with the most beautiful and genuine smiles, every single person was so friendly, wiling to help and made our experience amazing. Special mentions to those who we can now call friends and made our stay especially amazing: Elvis Santamaria made our pool experience every single day the absolute best! He’s always excited to see you and get you anything you may need, recommended amazing drinks, and always greets you with the best smile and a song. We looked forward to seeing him by the pool every day! Thank you Elvis!! Both Jorge Medina and Wander Guerrero at Rum Juliet were AMAZING! Coming to the pool bar every day ;) to see them was the best, they are truly amazing at what they do and crafted the best drinks for us (some of which are their signatures and don’t have names so they were extra special). As well, Angel at Mangu beside the pool was our server the 4 times we ate there during the week and he is wonderful! So excited to see us and welcome us for lunch or dinner, and has such positive energy, sweet smile and amazing service. All of you made our experience so great and we so enjoyed having conversations and fun with you all week <3 Muchas gracias mis amigos! I will definitely be coming again and I can’t wait to! We didn’t want to leave! Overall the best experience, 100/10!…
We had an amazing stay (August-Sept, 2021) at Paradisus Grand Cana (formerly the Grand Reserve at Paradisus Palma Real)!! We recommend it to everyone, since we have also stayed at seevral other resorts in Punta Cana. This was our 15th trip to the Palma Real in the last 10 years. Absolutely wonderful stay - and we want to give a special thanks to Sulenny and Milly for serving as our professional concierge and assisting us with our three kids during our family vacation. We celebrated the 8th birthday of our son while on the trip and the staff decorated our room with balloons and a cake for his birthday. The grand pool is amazing; we stayed in the first building, 3rd floor, closest to the main lobby. We also love the kids zone and special kids pool area. The food is top notch and Sulenny made reservations for us every night for special dinners at the end of each day. Weather was perfect the entire trip (6-nights). We are planning to return again in December. Highly recommended for families!!…
The hotel and staff were excellent and attentive. Shout out to Wilquin Rosario and Isamar for their help with our room, luggage, transportation and reservations. We will definitely return. The amenities and entertainment were good for us. The only thing that i will improve is the buffet variety (more Spanish /Dominican choices).
From the time we booked the resort there was great service via email, our concierge Ricardo De La Rosa was amazing, friendly and attentive. We loved seeing him around and absolutely anything we asked for he provided and more. He made my spouse’s birthday so special from the time we checked in to the last day. The whole staff at this resort was polite, friendly and just fun to have around. The rooms were always cleaned and smelled great, the food was amazing even room service. The pool always clean. I can’t wait to book my next trip and must have Ricardo again.
I have no words to describe our family's joy in this beautiful resort. Patty was our concierge; she organized everything perfectly that we had all the activities. The next day, dinner and always recommended the best!
We just returned from 2 weeks at Paradisus Grand Cana and it was wonderful. About us: We haven’t been to a resort for 7 years We travelled with 3 kids No membership Green bracelet Pool view master suite Rooms were beautiful, huge and clean. Our housekeeper was great, so kind and efficient. Sorry I forget her name now. Room 1202. Pools were clean and never packed. We had great service at the buffet. Food was plentiful and varied. We found the service outside with Andrés meja Yusmairy, Marilin villa, Aneuris amador and Fransisco Perez was superb. They even brought gifts for the kids! We met some great bar tenders, Jesus at Mama & Juana and Gustavo at Rum & Juliet. Drink servers by the pool always came around, super handy!! We ate at Kai, Agua Marina and Mina- all served good food. Our favourites were Kai and Mina. We also ate at the pool restaurant a few times for lunch and the good was delicious. Getting a reso was a challenge at times. Patricia and Lisette were amazing to deal with at guest services. These two girls went above and beyond for us. The other girl, who will remain nameless, was not so good. We ended up not even trying to get resos for our second week because it was too frustrating Kids club staff were fantastic. My kids (8, 6, 3) loved going to the kids club. There was always a ton to do. Kids club was open 10-10. Water park- so much fun and the staff were all great. Kids absolutely loved it! Saturnino and many others treated the kids so well! Beach- was ok. Crowded in my opinion and a bit dirty. We didn’t didn’t spend much time there. Although we got a delicious pineapple drink! We thought the nightly entertainment was good. This is not a party resort. Head to Palma Real by the beach if you want to party. Overall I would return to this resort with the kids. I wouldn’t come back if it was just my husband and I.…
The hotel was amazing ! Everything from the turtles in the pond to the food on my plate ! The hotel staff was so helpful and pleasant! The pina colada’s are delicious , and every restaurant was so good. Since we booked with Expedia we had our own private concierge service. His name was Christopher D'Beaulieu Marte and he was awesome ! Anything I needed ,he was right there for us ! He def made our stay even better. He helped us with everything from our Wi-Fi to daily activities for my daughter ! I highly recommend him ! He is amazing at guest concierge service. I would 10000% go back to this hotel. Loved it ❤️
Hotel/Amenities: 5 stars. We got a reserve master swim up. This was a huge room and perfect for our family of 4 (2 adults 2 kids age 3 and 1). Having she swim up was very convenient with little kids as we didn’t have to lug our stuff to go to the pool as it was literally in our backyard so to speak. We found no reason to go to the main pool. The room was clean and comfortable. The water pressure on the shower felt like u were in a spa. While we didn’t get to go to the gym it looked great. The property was well taken care of Food: The food at the places you make reservations at was really good. Really appreciate how our concierge made the effort to make our reservations at 630 and on site as that was more convenient for us. The breakfast buffet was consistently good. The only place we didn’t like was Mangu I believe for lunch as the hamburgers were waaaaaay undercooked. Favorite restaurant was Kao. Atmosphere: This was not at least to us a party resort. Had a definite chill vibe. Or maybe we just didn’t realize it because we were up early or asleep early. Beach: Wish the beach was closer and that we didn’t have to take a golf cart there although they came frequently. Probably would have gone more frequently if it was closer especially with little ones. That being said with little ones they preferred the beach anyways Vacation Club Presentation: I get that they have to but it’s just not something u want to spend any part of your vacation on. But I’m glad I was compensated with a free massage. Concierge: Can not compliment Kenia enough. She was an amazing concierge! She knew what worked with our family and met all our needs. She wasn’t too overbearing either. She checked up on us every day via WhatsApp and met with us as needed. I’ve been to many resorts with butler service and Kenia was hands down the best I have worked with!…
I just returned from a one week stay the Paradisus Grand Cana and I had a wonderful time. The overall property is gorgeous and very well taken care of. There is a great vibe here, very relaxing and not overly crowded. I went with family and a younger child so we spent a lot of time in their small water park, which was not only exciting for the child in my family but for the grown ups as well! The food is pretty good, I found that there were more fish oriented items at the restaurants. One of the things you should know before booking is that you will have to make reservations at the restaurants in order to get dinner. Also some restaurants are only for "members" of the Melia club. This property is NOT on the beach, but you can there is transportation, like a hop on bus, service that drives you about 5 minutes down to the beach. The bus comes every 10 minutes once you're at the beach. The hotel does a good job of planning activities for grown ups, teens, and young children throughout the day. There is a weekly itinerary, with events like wine tasting, candle making, kid's painting, silent disco's etc. I went to many of these events and would like to give an extra special shoutout to Jansen and Maria, who facilitated many of the activities I attended. They were very amiable and you felt like you were chatting with a good friend when around these two. I would also like to shoutout Celia who held the candle making and soap making classes I attended. She has a great personality and made the classes very enjoyable.…
I just returned from the Paradisus Grand Cana, and I had a really enjoyable experience. However, If I could give the resort 4.5 stars I would, since it definitely needs to upgrade some parts of the package. First I will start with the things that are really great at the resort. Grounds: The resort is probably one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever stayed at, and I have been to many resorts over the years. The lobby is gorgeous and has a really grand entrance that really makes you feel like you're at a 5 star hotel. They also have a beautiful pond in the middle of the lobby, that has really cute turtles and fish. I basically have no complaints about the lobby, since it has a really nice flow, and it can be navigated really easily. One thing that would be nice is a specific spot for entertainment (ex. a theatre) but I will discuss that more in the entertainment section. Overall, the rest of the resort has really beautiful vegetation, and I found that it was all really well maintained. Every single corner of the Paradisus property had beautiful landscaping. When I walked to the beach one day, I walked along the main entrance road towards Palma Real, and I was shocked as to how well it was maintained, since the road is primarily used by employees and tourist buses. Anyways, the ground of the entire complex are huge, and you can definitely tell that Paradisus invested a lot of money to make the grounds so beautiful. Rooms: Similar to the grounds, there are absolutely no complaints about the rooms, I stayed in a one bedroom suite in building 1, which is the farthest building from the lobby. I really enjoyed that our room had a balcony to the outside of the circle, since it was much more private, and the landscaping on the outside was still pretty to look at, The rooms are absolutely massive, and are the biggest rooms I have ever slept in at an all-inclusive resort. They were extremely modern, but I also liked that they used more brown-ish colours, since many resorts just use a black and white theme in their rooms, which is nice, but it can sometimes be basic and boring. These rooms definitely had a lot of character, and felt very welcoming. My kids slept on a sofa bed, which was surprisingly very comfortable. I also liked that the cleaning staff would restock the room every day with snacks like Lays and Oreos, which is a nice touch especially when travelling with kids. Overall, the rooms are amazing, and whoever designed them definitely deserves a raise. Beach: The beach is quite an unusual topic because of the events that happened while we were at the grand cana. So basically, Grand Cana guests previously had a designated beach area with it's own restaurant, Agua Marina. We spent the first 4 days of our vacation at this part of the beach, which is on the right side of Palma Real's beach. This beach area was generally quiet, and it was very relaxing. The water was amazing, and you could go pretty far out into the water before it becomes too deep. The only issue was that it seemed like there was more seaweed piling up on this side of the beach compared to the Palma Real side. However, this beach section has actually been shut down. Due to renovations at Palma Real, all of the guests were moved to Grand Cana, and everyone at Grand Cana was now allowed to use the beach that was previously reserved for Palma Real and The Reserve guests. This part of the beach felt way more crowded, and there wasn't even an actual restaurant, which was disappointing. Also, since Palma Real was fully closed, you couldn't even use the washrooms in front of the beach, and most people had to walk to the Melia property and use the washroom on their beach! I thought that it was a little unusual and unfair that they moved all the guests to the new beach, and took away some amenities. However, the beach here was still very nice, and there was basically no seaweed at all!!! The only complaint is that this part of the beach felt a little bit more deep, but it was still an amazing beach experience, even if there was some confusion along the way. It is hands down the best beach I have been to in the DR, since the beach is just so wide, the water is really calm with basically no waves, and the water is generally shallow. If you really want to have a good beach experience in Punta Cana, book a resort in the southern part near Grand Cana, since the beach is much better here than areas like Uvero Alto. Food: The food was a pretty good experience. I was a little bit scared about the previous reviews which said that the food isn't so great, and due to issues with reservations, most meals will be at the buffet. I was actually able to try every single restaurant(except for Agua Marina which was closed, and Amor De Mar which is a Circle only restaurant) and I thought the experience was pretty good at most of them. The buffet had a really good selection, especially at breakfast. Lunch and Dinner at the buffet were pretty good too, but I found that breakfast was superior, with much more selection. I think the variety was pretty good for an all-inclusive resort, and the buffet was a decent size. I do think that it should be a little bit bigger, especially since it can sometimes get crowded during the busy morning hours. But overall, a good buffet experience. Mina, which is the steakhouse, was really good, and my kids enjoyed this one the most. I personally enjoyed Lemonfish, which is a ceviche restaurant. I think the concept at this restaurant is really cool, and everything tasted amazing. Somehow, we got a reservation at Mangu, which is a reserve-only restaurant for dinner(we didn't stay in a reserve room) and Mangu was pretty good too. The fish at Mangu tasted much better than the chicken in my opinion, so if you go to Mangu, I would recommend one of the fish dishes. Also, some people may not know this, but the sports bar actually has a pretty good menu, and everything we had at the sports bar was really good. They have typical american foods like ribs and nachos, so it was nice to be able to experience some of that even in the DR. In my opinion, the worst restaurant at the resort was Kao, the asian restaurant. Now, my expectations for asian restaurants in the Caribbean are already low, since the quality will never be the same as asian restaurants in Canada or the US. We actually ate at Kao twice(since it is usually the only restaurant that has open reservations) once at the teppanyaki table, and another time with the a-la-carte menu. The food at Kao wasn't bad, but it just wasn't as good as the other restaurants. I would definitely try to get reservations at the other restaurants before getting one at Kao, but it all depends on your own taste buds! Staff: Most of the staff at grand cana are really nice and sweet. I definitely found that the language barrier was a little bit harder than at resorts in Mexico for example, but for the most part, the staff could understand what you were trying to say. The service was usually fast, and orders were always done correctly. A shoutout to the concierge staff in the lobby, especially Patricia. Patricia wasn't our personal concierge, but she helped us with our dinner reservations. Due to an issue with the airline we flew with, I had to use the phone in the lobby to call the international number, and I had to call 3-4 times, sometimes staying 2 hours on the line. Patricia sat with me while I dealt with all my issues, and tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible. She also gave me reservations to all of the restaurants, which is amazing considering that some people can't get any reservations at all. So definitely a big shoutout to her, she made our experience so much better. Our personal concierge assigned to us was pretty distant to be honest. I won't say his name, but he didn't really help with anything, other than showing us to our room, and bothering us about the timeshare presentation. I did like that our concierge wasn't too pushy about the timeshare, since I read other reviews that said the concierge was very annoying about the timeshare. Anyways, the staff was still really great overall, especially the staff at the buffet, and the staff at Lemonfish! The staff at Kao were quite rude and cold compared to the rest of the staff. Now that I went in detail about all the main parts of the resort, here are some things that need to be upgraded. Reservation system: While Patricia was able to get us reservations at every single restaurant, the times were always too early or too late. The hotel management leaves the most desired spots at 7-8 for the circle guests, which I thought was really unusual, since most of the time, restaurants would be empty! It was also common to see guests tip restaurant workers if they didn't have a reservation, and they would get a table easily! I definitely think that the resort needs to change the reservation system, and potentially eradicate it as a whole. Many resorts, like Dreams and Riu, have a no-reservation policy, and I never had to wait longer than 10 min for a table. This is the number one issue that needs to change at the grand cana, since we were one of the few lucky people to actually get reservations! Transport to the beach: When we were allowed in the Grand Cana section, this didn't seem like such a major issue. We would usually wait in the lobby for around 2-3 minutes, and then it would take another 2-3 minutes to arrive at the beach. It's definitely not as convenient as a beach front resort, but guests know this before booking anyways. However, when they moved everyone to the Palma Real side, the resort became much busier, and the wait times felt very long! One time, I waited over 10 minutes for a cart from the beach to the resort, and it takes another 5 minutes to ride back to the resort. There were a couple occasions where it was faster to walk to the room than take the cart! I think that the resort should add in more frequent transportation, especially when the resort is busier. Entertainment: probably the worst thing at this resort was entertainment. It was extremely lacking compared to other resorts. As I said in the grounds section, there is no designated entertainment place, and all the events happen in the lobby. I think that this is fine, since most people spend their time in the lobby at night, so they are more inclined to watch the shows while drinking at one of the bars. However, most of the "entertainment" was just live music. This is lacking compared to the massive entertainment spectacles at other resorts. I also found that events during the day never really happened, especially by the beach. The resort offers these workshops, but I never saw any of them, and they didn't seem very exciting or fun. It would be nice if they had some more interactive stuff on the beach, like soccer or volleyball. I understand that some guests like having a more quiet atmosphere, but most of the guests were families with small kids, so it would make more sense if they added more events suited for families. Overall, It was a really great trip, and if they fix those 3 issues, I would definitely come back for another visit. I definitely recommend this hotel for anybody who likes having a large resort that has a nice and quiet atmosphere. I think that this resort is worth it, especially if you can get a good price on it(since it can be pretty pricey sometimes!)…
