I went to Cabarete for a jazz wekend festival (Fedujazz). Cabarete is famous for the windsurf, one of the best places in the world, so normally the atmosphere is a little wild :).

Exceptionally friendly staff, good restaurant adjacent to the ocean, the suite was spacious, clean and comfortable with a wonderful view of the ocean. As other reviewers have noted, the main Cabarete beach is a very short walk away, should not be an issue for anyone...More

Velero Beach Resort was the first luxury Cabarete hotel to be built and the visionary architect chose the best location on the entire beach to build. Our grounds are sheltered from the wind for the …Morenon-windsurfers, but 5 meters into the water the windsurfer or kiter will have access to the trade winds. Velero Beach Resort is the only one of the Cabarete hotels to have a small reef right out front that forms shallow tidal pools at low tide. These are perfect for the toddlers to play in protected from the waves. Our restaurant is also the only one in Cabarete that is directly on the water for perfect sunsets! Less

Sorry to inform you that there are no elevators. To go up to the 2nd floor you have to climb approximately a dozen stairs. I have had 2 knee operations on my right knee and was able to do it easily. It was worth the climb just for the great ocean and resort view. I would never have gone up as high as the 3rd floor but the 2nd was perfect. Hope this answer helps you.

Actually, they do have a small beach between the pool and the ocean (management has a photo with some blue chairs lined up by a short retaining wall - very true liking). The hotel grounds are a bit elevated, so there is a short retaining wall and three steps down to the beach. And miles of beach walking to either side of the hotel. Just have to go over some rocks (or swim) if you want to go to the left. I'm a beach person myself, but I loved this set-up. You are three steps up from the beach, so have a luxury of a great view and fancy beds and yet very close to the ocean and the sand if you wish to. We had no trouble having chairs down on the sand for a while and then coming back up. If you happen to be there during local holidays with hundreds of locals coming down to the beach (they are all public in Dominican), you'll really appreciate the option of being close to the ocean yet up within your resort, away from the crowd. There is a security guard usually standing at the stairs to the beach. They have an infinity pool overlooking the ocean, too, which makes it really nice... Gorgeous setting and very convenient. It gives you an option/ best of both worlds.
