Certificate of Excellence
Rhino Lodge is ideally located on the edge of the Ngorongoro crater rim. The Lodge was originally the home of Ngorongoro’s first conservator, and its developers have maintained the house’s original rustic, low-impact style and natural setting. Rhino Lodge offers a perfect base from which to explore the Ngorongoro crater and its surroundings. Game drives into the crater, and, for the more adventurous, walking safaris in the forest reserve and visits to nearby Maasai villages, can all be arranged from the lodge. And, on return after a long day, 24 comfortable en suite rooms with forest views, a cozy living space, friendly local staff and generous African-inspired meals offer guests a warm welcome home.

We spend one night here between the Serengeti and Ngorongoro safaries. The staff was friendly, the dinner was very delicious. Because of the lodge is situated 2350 m above the see level, the nights are cold - we asked for heating and the stuff made pleasant warm in the room.
In the morning we saw a herd of buffalos in front of the balkony

Allow plenty of time to enjoy this comfortable, efficiently run lodge! You'll want to stay longer! We arrived at dusk just in time to change for dinner and relax for a few minutes in front of the roaring fires in the lounge area.

We arrived weary, and when we went to sit out on our back deck after a hot shower, discovered a young waterbuck grazing right beside us. Drinks around a fire pit on the deck outside the restaurant continued our sense of relaxation and welcome. Dinner, breakfast, and the box lunch the following day were all interestingly different and delicious. A lovely, welcoming place!

We three men stopped here on way to Ngorongoro Crater. It's cold here at night and coal fire kwas put on in each room.
The rooms are very spacious with hot and cold water supply.
There is free WiFi in the restaurant and the food was good. Highly recommended.

We stayed at the Rhino Lodge as a part of our safari which included five stays at lodges and camps. We found the Rhino Lodge to be comfortable and the meals satisfactory. Travelers should note that nights in the Rhino Lodge may be cold. Beds are provided with enough blankets to survive a northern winter. The staff will also provide a fire in the woodstove which makes the room quite cozy if you request. Travelers should also note that there is a schedule that electricity is generated for charging electronics. Meals in the main restaurant were served buffet style with plenty of choices. Wifi is available in the main restaurant. It's location is very convenient to the entrance of Ngorongoro Conservancy.
Date of stay: October 2018
