Was one of the best ways to celebrate Christmas! To wake up and go for a boat trip ride in hope of seeing whale sharks! Then venturing off to a beautiful deserted island and have fresh fish cooked on an open fire, a picnic completed with china plates!! Once that adventure was over to return to a full tradition English...

We stayed for a week in mid October 2009 having previously spent a week on a camping safari in Tanzania and visiting Arusha and Dar es Salaam. We chose Mafia because it is quieter and less touristy than Zanzibar has become and Ras Mbisi looked the perfect location - only lodge on that coast, right on the beach, small and...

We chose Ras Mbisi after reading the Lonely Planet review and stayed for 5 nights. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and considering that all the meals are included, the rates are very reasonable. The food was excellent, accommodation well thought out with nice attention to detail. All the staff were very accommodating. Only slight niggle was that the snorkelling equipment...

Ras Mbisi is a haven of beautiful lodges, sumptuous meals and welcoming hosts amidst stunning desert island beauty. The lodges are thoughtfully furnished with the perfect balance of simplicity and comfort. Hot water is provided by solar power and was always in abundance and my whites had never been whiter after passing through the lodges laundry service. For us there...

I really don't know where to start. My husband and I were absolutely thrilled to have found Ras Mbisi! Michelle, Jon, their girls and the staff are all wonderful people who made us feel so welcome. They are an amazing family and we had such a brilliant time that we plan to go back again next year! This place is...

We stayed at Ras Mbisi for a long weekend relaxing away from Dar (we are residents who have been here 3 years). This is one of the best lodges we have stayed at so far in Tanzania. The lodge is fantastic, simple yet elegantly designed. The beach is one of the nicest we have been too - quite, clean and...

Dear Michelle, John and the girls Thanks for a fantastic few days. We really had a lovely time and didn't want to leave. Hector and Felix are still excited that they saw a whale and even Albert is still talking about how much fun he had at 'Miss Ellens' otherwise known as Michelle! We have no complaints at all and...

Arriving at Mafia 'International' Airport on a light aircraft was very exciting - a light aircraft on a dirt strip runway. The 25 minutes in a 4x4 through a coconut plantation... If you want to get away from it all Ras Mbisi is the place for you. No TV, patchy mobile reception and generators rather than off the grid electricity......

“It seemed that all the huts were the same. Their distance from the main building is an individual preference. We were in a hut farther away, and really enjoyed the walk back under the starlight magnificent sky every night. An additional treat.”

“All bandas are facing the ocean. However, some are set back a little further and as a result have less of a wide open view. Ask for a banda that is set closer to the beach if the uninterrupted view is important to you (and what a view it is).”
