This is definitely not a 4 Star Hotel, closer to 2 Stars. The rooms are extremely dated and the bathroom is oddly configured, as mentioned in the prior review, you have to close the bathroom door first before you can have access to most of the bathroom. It was quite a long walk to get my room. Service is quite friendly. Breakfast is very basic. Hotel is not located in a walking distance to any shopping or restaurants. I would have given the hotel a lower rating but Ghardaia does not seem to be a center of tourism so I don't know if there are many better alternatives.
This is a very large hotel, hundreds of rooms - almost all were empty during my stay with maybe 30 guests in residence. Kept thinking of the hotel in the Shining movie. Rooms are very clean, reasonable size, with large windows, blackout curtains, small fridge, good closet storage, desk, luggage storage table. Odd bathroom layout. - door couldn't be fully opened because it hit the toilet, making entry a challenge. Small sink and shower only - no bath tub. Bottled water is provided daily at no additional cost. Huge swimming pool that was unheated , so too cold to use in November. Small, well stocked shop in the lobby with local artisanal products. Front desk, restaurant and house cleaning staff were all personable and friendly, with varying proficiency with English. No problem with communication though. Breakfast was a small assortment of pastries, hard boiled eggs, cold cuts, yoghurt, juice and strong coffee. Not a major spread, which due to the small occupancy was understandable. The hotel was most likely built when there was a strong tourist presence in Algeria, now it is vastly oversized, making the place seem a bit forlorn. It is well maintained and in a good location, with close proximity to the cities in the M'Zab Valley.…
We visited many interesting places in Algeria but the M’Zab Valley was the highlight of our trip. We saw 3 of the five towns of the pentapolis. I can easily say that we traveled back in time as these towns and people live in the world of 1000 years ago. Their faith, called Ibadi is said to be a purer form of Islam. El Atteuf with its excellent guide, Le Parisien was probably the most interesting and authentic followed by Beni Isguen. Ghardaia itself is also nice but is a bigger city. Still the marketplace in the afternoon was a lovely experience. They have an autonomous government and have a system to help the poor among themselves. 1000 years ago, there were no good hotels and unfortunately this is the case for this area. You can stay at the downtown hotel of Ghardaia ( El Djawhari) or Alghen Paradise which has a nice garden but mediocre rooms. The experience is still worth it …
Awesome trip to Ghardaia I strongly recommend it for all of you. It’s amazing 😉 place to visit especially in spring. All traditional stuff, foods🍛🥘, dates and peanuts 🥜. You could visit BenIsgeun, soul, el Atteuf and oasis’s ⛺️
I'm really surprised how few things to do are listed in Ghardaia. There are plenty such as visiting the old town going to Zelfana a thermal hamam also going out in the desert and hunting gazettes going to surrounding places
