The concept of the simple living that Friendly Bungalows delivers really is genuine, however on arrival when we were shown our bungalow we were quite disappointed as the quality was less than what we felt had been portrayed to myself and my girlfriend. I desperately wanted a shower when we arrived and to my dismay found that we only had...

I visited Vanuatu for the first time in early January this year (2013), staying both in Port Villa and on Tanna Island. I had a wonderful experience staying at Friendly Bungalows on Tanna Island. Prior to organising my trip to Tanna Island, I read several reviews on Trip advisor to gauge what kind of accommodation was available. There is a...

What a wonderful trip. I travelled with a friend and my 2 teenage grandchildren. If you want a place away from it all, choose Friendly Bungalows on Tanna Island. The staff are so helpful and th local village people so friendly. The Volcano experience was something out of this world without being exposed to any danger. The road trip to...

We are so grateful for such positive comments. Such excellent detailed feedback like this really helps guests understand what they are booking, and helps us, at Friendly Bungalows, to really improve. Yes, it is an authentic Melanesian experience, and yes, the pristine sand beach is black grainy soft sand, it is so lovely so have it described this way. Thank...

If getting away from television, radio, mobile phones, phones, roads, electricity is your cup of tea, then look no further than Friendly! Despite a lack of the above (and perhaps because if it) this place was amazing. Fantastic service from the English speaking hosts, combined with the authentic local touches (like the fresh local beef, fish and chicken that was...

My husband and I had originally planned to travel to Hawaii for our honeymoon however after the collapse of Strategic Airlines and subsequent loss of our airfares we had to downsize our expectations. Mt Yasur was the reason we chose Vanuatu and subsequently Tanna as we had planned something similar in our original Hawaiian plans. I want to start with...

Thank you to all the people who take time to make a review on Tripadvisor for Friendly Bungalows. It is an amazing property, a real step back in time, run successfully with two local villages, Lono and Lonsunan. Friendly Bungalows does not offer a modern, westernised experience. There is no electricity, everything is sourced locally as much as possible, and...

I loved my two nights here. It is very isolated, a gorgeous setting and you get a great look at the island as you make the 1.5 hour transfer from the airport. The bungalows are very rustic yet comfortable. Take plenty of books and immerse yourself in the location. Also take a torch. Meals basic but fine and the communal...

I stayed at Friendly Bungalows for 2 nights with my partner. Transfers from the airport were very expensive and the prices to the volcano were very expensive too. They provided meals which averaged about $35.00 per person per meal and the quality of the food and the menu selection made the meals worth about $8.00 per meal. After paying for...

My husband and I ( aged 57& 62) have just had 4 nights with Mary and her staff at Friendly Bungalows. We had been avid followers of TA reviews for some months before travelling, so felt we were well prepared for our experience. In truth, we had under estimated the impact this paradise would have on our lives. Swim at...

it's a really amazing and beautiful place, and it is very remote. it has all bamboo huts, electricity only at night from a generator. take a torch, there is hot water and western toilets. beautiful sound of the ocean, black sand from the volcano. if you need modern conveniences all the time it's probably not for you. things run on...

I spent four nights here, and sorry about the long review but this is a difficult place to rate. It is by any measure 1-star accommodation. It's little more than shacks with fly-screened windows near the beach, set in a nice garden, with power only on from 5.30-11pm each night. There is no power point in your bungalows, so to...
