Come here for the wildlife, not the accommodation, and definitely not the food! Accommodation is very basic, but clean. The dining room was, quite frankly horrible, very hot and full of mosquitoes. The cooking was verging on bad. This is a cattle ranch where we had 5 meals, 4 of which were piranha and only one was beef, and just...

In Los Llanos (not Caracas), El Cedral offers safaris and accommodation. We stayed 2 nights; rooms were very basic (missing light bulbs, dripping air con, torn mosquito nets) and the food, although plentiful, was very basic - bland, poor quality meat etc. The pool was welcome but basically the whole place requires some investment. That said, staff were very friendly...

The first thing that is important to clarify is that Hato El Cedral is not located in Caracas. It is located in Apure state around 700 Km from Caracas. It is possible to go there by car (around 11 hours driving) or by plane (to Barinas and from there 3 hours by car). The camp facilities are very basic and...

We arrived here in the evening and we shown to our room, number 1. It was basic, with two double beds, TV, fridge and air conditioning which was so efficient we had to turn it off occasionally! There were one or two creepy crawlies in the room and it was best to wear socks when padding about the floor, but...

Just returned from a 4 day sojourn to the plains of Los Llanos at Hato el Cedral. With few other options available for accommodation in the region El Cedral is as good as it gets. As other reviewers have commented the wildlife spotting opportunities are sensational. We visited at the end of the dry season and were amazed by the...

Having visited 135 countries on all seven continents and stayed in countless hotels this was the absolute worst. Hato is a three plus hour drive from the closest airport at Barinas. It is a working cattle ranch that also has some accommodations for tourists. Apparently it was once private and may very well have been nice back then but since...

The wildlife was wonderful but unfortunately our trip coincided with the annual cull and done in the hours whilst we were on safari outings. Bloody dead caimans on the road and a truck full of dead capybara was not what we wanted or expected to see. It was like a black comedy with everything done to put the visitor off....

Stayed here in low-season in Oct for 4 nites. We didnt expect luxury but the whole place is a bit runned down as well the vehicles (broke down on our tour), will need maintenance. Rooms basic, but cleaned well daily and towels changed. Fridge very "wonky" but working. It was nice to have bottled water when ever needed. Cheap beer...

This is not luxury accommodation, but it's more than adequate. The rooms are vast, with air conditioning and free bottled water in a refrigerator. Finally, in Venezuela, I got hot water coming straight out of the shower! The meals in the dining hall are substantial and varied; the meat comes from the ranch. There's a swimming pool and a very...

Support the positive comments about wildlife. Just mind blowing how much life these places can support. A fair drive out there but probably doable in 3 days/2 nights. We did 3 nights and chilled. Kids very happy with such a cool experience. Dawn shouldn't be missed. Non stop capybara delight. We had our own fishing rods and kids just were...
