The Rio Dorado Lodge is built in the classic architectural style of Patagonia using stone and whole logs as the major structural components. The lodge, in its beautiful setting on the outskirts of Junin de los Andes, has a welcoming warmth with its very large guest rooms, the Fly Shop, the Club House, the quincho, the pool and the lovely grounds. The rooms were dirty, with beer tops on the carpet and dust on the surfaces and on the log walls, and the bed covers were stained and smelt of needing a wash. There is no sound proofing between rooms so one can hear every word said next door. The beds were comfortable. The breakfast is basic. I just managed to get some fried eggs on toast. Otherwise it was very plastic ham and cheese with bread. The coffee was weak. The pool is no longer usable and the whole property was full of litter, dog excrement, plastic bottles, deflated footballs, etc. on what purported to be lawn but was in fact burnt grass. Clearly the owners do not care or simply do not make any effort, or both, to provide a sense of cleanliness, comfort and well being.

The Rio Dorado Lodge is a clean, modern site that is very quiet and safe. I agree with many of these reviews on all the benefits. You are here for the fishing access and expertise. The owners are Annibal and Marta, very pleasant proprietors who have years of experience treating guests. Their son Juan knows every possible place to fish, under any conditions, at any time of day. He accurately predicted where to fish, at what times, and whether or not we would avoid other anglers. The one TA review that recently gave a lesser rating was not 100% wrong, I also arrived mid-day to a hot room, but you don't need AC because it is so dry there you may actually need to bump the heat at night. Clean, neat, good shower, great bed, awesome pillows - give me those and I don't need to complain about the rest! International travelers can not go wrong with Rio Dorado. We will be back.

Room Tip: Stay in the newer, separate building from the main. Four quiet rooms, high ceilings, privacy.

The location is in a large lot, comfortable, but not close to the city center. Facilities are very good; ample rooms, adequately equipped; perfectly cleaned bathroom. Service is just enough. It is a good operational base to fish in the multiple rivers in the Junín´s area, provided you have mobility.

The Rio Dorado Lodge is a family owned and operated establishment. You can enjoy total privacy or interact with other guests in this 12 room establishment - your choice. And, if you want to interact with an Argentine family and learn more about the culture and food, etc., this is the place to do it. Be sure to order dinner for at least one evening. It will be superb. Juan Jose knows all of the rivers in the area and can give you advise if you want to go solo or hook you up with a guide. The fly shop has a huge selection of flies and they always know what the fish are taking. Rooms are spacious. We are already planning to return next year.

If you want a lodge that is clean, and owned by "a trustworthy" family. You have to go here. Rooms are actually roomy and has excellent accommodations. If you are here for fly fishing, this is the place! Search no further.....you have found fishing heaven with several great rivers to choose from. If you need advice on where to go, and get set you with flies and gear they have it. The Rio Dorado Lodge is second to none. I actually seen the owner, Juan Sacconi, giving advice to a young man who was staying there with his family on where to fish on bank. Next thing I heard he had caught a really nice brown trout the next day. What a place, what a family!!! Just do it and go!!! Time is running out fast!
