This is the second time we’ve stayed here and it wasn’t quite as good as last time. I love the building, and they are in the process or refurbishing. The room we were given was a twin and it looked a bit tired and in need of modernisation. It was very cold when we arrived and we

Good points:

Breakfast was cooked well and choices were plentiful. Service was good, apart from the server not being able to smile. Views at breakfast very nice, looking out to sea.

Bad points:

The room would be great if you were an Umpa Lumpa...We weren't too sure whether to

Response from SteveJ2586, Manager at Ty'r Graig Castle
Responded 8 Nov 2018
Hello “Herbage”, and thank you for your feedback. It is unusual for us to respond in detail to "reviews", but as this one is so erroneous and potentially libellous, we feel compelled to react. We are also somewhat concerned that, from your comments about the size of the en-suite room, and proximity of your door and that of the next room, we can narrow this down to one of two rooms, neither of which have been occupied by anyone from Nuneaton for over two months (I gave up looking prior to that), which leads us to doubt that you ever actually stayed here! We also observe that EVERY guest is asked, upon checking out, if everything was OK with the room, and would have expected someone who was so dissatisfied to have raised at least one of the alleged shortcomings with us at that time. There is no problem with the shower pressure, and the showers in those two rooms are mains fed cold water inputs, and this pressure was recently routinely checked by Dwr Cymru, our water supplier. The wardrobes and drawers have proved perfectly adequate for the hundreds of guests who have stayed in these rooms since I came here 7 years ago and this is the first time anyone has ever complained about those facilities.....in ANY room. As you possibly gleaned from the various leaflets and pictures around the hotel, Ty'r Graig was originally built by a wealthy gunmaker as a private holiday home in 1891, when the en-suite facilities were simply a chamber pot and washstand. The 1949 conversion to a hotel resulted in the original rooms being divided, and later, with increased guest expectations and requirements, full en-suite facilities being added. The footprint of these does vary from room to room (although the contents are standard size), and we are quite happy to discuss specific requirements with guests prior to them booking, in order that we can best meet their specific needs. If the TV's were any larger, they would be so obtrusive as to be impractical, and I actually know of very few actors or TV personalities who are 6'4". Conversely, and by sheer coincidence, I DO know that there are only three of the original 1971 Oompa Loompas still alive; Rusty Goffe, Albert Wilkinson, and Malcolm Dixon, all of whom are British and are well known to me, with the first two being good friends. I shall be sure to pass on your recommendation that they visit here. Our 8 double beds are standard double sized (we do have one room with a king-size, which can be requested if available), and to suggest that they are shorter than standard is completely wrong. We also totally refute your claim that there were elements within the room that were "caked in dust", as all rooms are checked before keys are issued to new arrivals. We get frequent and regular comments regarding our high standards of cleanliness, and were most amused by your observation of "poo stains" on the carpet. No-one working here has ever been in the unfortunate or embarrassing position of seeing these, so we were intrigued as to what forensic procedures you undertook to determine that this is what they were? Or even knew what they would look like? Finally, and by way of thanks, we are also grateful for your recommendation that our lovely property is suitable for Hobbits. I shall be sure to send your observation to Martin Freeman, with a request that he circulate our details to his friends in Hobbiton specifically, and The Shire in general.

Does the room with twin beds have a separate shower and sea view? Also, recommendations for sea view rooms on the first floor.
The twin room has an en-suite bath with a shower over the bath tub and does offer a view of the sea as well as the road running along the coastline. On the same floor (i.e. first floor), the standard turret room offers an open view of the sea but it does have a very small shower en-suite. If space is of high importance then we suggest you opt for the large double with hillside view on the 1st floor as it has a superking size bed and an en-suite bath with a shower over the bath tub. Hope we have addressed your questions but should you have any further queries please do not hesitate to ask.

Hi there, Do you accommodate children? I am looking for a place to stay in Barmouth for 2 night, 2 adults and a 4 yr old and the reviews make your place seem a perfect place for us to stay. Many thanks Mr Perks Thanks
Dear Mr Perks, thank you for your enquiry. Unfortunately, we do not have family rooms here, only one single and the rest are double rooms including a twin. Also, we only take children from the age of 12 upwards. Kind Regards, Tyr Graig Castle
