Great little hotel. Very handy for ferry from Ullapool over to Stornoway. Parking round back of hotel. Nice little bar and good simple food. Stayed there as couple with the dog. Room a little small with bathroom en-suite but all perfectly comfortable.
A wee tad noisy at the front when closing time but nothing to put you off this hotel.
All in all very good and very friendly

On Sunday the 21st of October my family and I visited the Argyll hotel in Ullapool. We stayed from the Sunday night to the Monday morning which we then caught the ferry Stornoway for a family gathering. When we arrived at the hotel we took our bags out- exhausted as we had driven up from Glasgow after a long car journey, each of us desperate to shower and relax. As we entered the hotel we were all tired and desperate to go to our rooms to unwind, we were met at the reception by a young lad who was helpful enough he showed us to our room and that was that. My siblings and I all shared a room on the first floor I believe it was room 4, and my parents were on the second floor in room 8. As my siblings and I approached our room desperate to put our feet up and relax, we were greeted by our grotty, small, unpractical, basic room that cost £100 per night not even including breakfast or dinner! Rip off!!! In the room there was 2 bunk beds, my 2 siblings and I could not hide our disappointment. There was more room in a broom cupboard than there was between the 2 bunks on each bunk bed. Myself being 5’8 decided it would be appropriate to sleep on the top bunk as there was clearly more space- I was wrong! My sister who is not far off my height was forced to sleep on the bottom bunk where she had barely any room to breathe, her nose not far off touching my top bunk! It gets worse! Our bedroom had 2 bunk beds a sink a chest of drawers with a pathetic tv on the top and 2 mirrors, there was WiFi but it didn’t work - I myself would not even have paid £20 for it never mind £100! There was a bathroom across the corridor, not even in our room! £100 for what exactly? to be in a dump! My parents room was not awful, it bad 2 single beds pushed together to make a double but looked pretty poor. This room (room 8) had a couch and a en-suite which are both pretty basic items but we’re the best things in that room. My family and I did not eat dinner in the hotel we went to another restaurant so I cannot rate the resteraunt on its dinner. My other family who were staying in the caladonian hotel across the road which was £60 per night for a twin room which included breakfast! This hotel was tidier and definitely better in every way possible! After dinner myself and my siblings went back to our room to get ready for bed, our room was very cold despite the pitiful heater that barely worked being on the highest temperature setting that was possible, partly due to the fire Exit being open for half the day which let a horrible draught throughout the floor. Time passed and we all went to bed, tired and worn out after our long journey to ullapool. Through out most of the night all we heard was noisy neighbours slamming doors, laughing, shouting and heavily stamping up and down the corridors at 11pm onwards! After a good amount of time I eventually managed to fall asleep but I woke up multiple times during the night, my bed was not comfortable, my sheets were not warm, and my bed was tiny a ironing board would have made a better bed! In the morning we had breakfast- wasn’t anything special but wasn’t awful. Before leaving I went up to my room but my parents had given me the wrong key, they gave me the key to their room, I did not realise this and went to unlock my door- and the key for their room unlocked my room? WHAT? I think it was a one key for every room, I cannot begin to describe how dangerous that is! Appalling!1/10 - WOULD NOT RECOMEND ! Awful experience I will not be back.

We stayed in the Argyll after the ferry crossing from Stronoway to Ullapool. The gentleman on reception was very friendly and welcoming. The rooms on the top floor were large and had fabulous views over the bay. Also they were clean and the bathroom was huge. The meals were basically pub grub and the breakfast was excellent. The bonus was the live music entertainment in the evening, which was superb and the musicians excellent.
One small criticism, as someone else has said the rear access could do with a bit of smartening up.

Lovely welcome from the gentleman owner.
Dog friendly.
Can eat in the bar with the pooch, was good honest pub grub.
Rooms are adequate, clean and ours had fabulous view over the bay.
Breakfast was cheerily served and, again, food was good.
The car park is at the rear and you enter through firedoors to the bar.
The rear/carpark exterior is in need of a good tidy up and a paint job.
Breakfast room/restaurant room equally needs a good clean and paint job.
Bedroom was very, very dark due to dark wallso and bed linen needs renewing.
Overall a good stay in a pub but expensive rooms compared to other places stayed in.

My hubby, myself and Harry our Lhasa Apso stayed overnight in the Argyll Hotel before sailing to Lewis. The staff were friendly. The room was clean and modern and we enjoyed a tasty full scottish breakfast! Harry enjoyed his first night in a hotel! 😊
