Where do I begin? I booked this place because I was looking for a "set it and forget it" All-Inclusive resort experience but I was greatly disappointed. I completed the online check-in hoping to speed things up for our arrival. I noted in the appropriate field that my party and I would be arriving at 13:00 even though I knew that their official check-in time was 15:00. My party and I ended up having lunch with friends and didn't actually arrive at the resort until around 15:15. When I approached the desk for our room keys/cards I was notified that the room wasn't ready yet! The woman at the desk asked us to have a seat at the bar and said that she would come get us when she was notified that the room was ready. ... TWO HOURS elapsed at which point we wondered aloud whether or not she had forgotten us. So I went back to the desk where I found that the original woman "helping" us had left and there was now a new receptionist to deal with. I apprised the new receptionist of the situation. She called housekeeping services and said they had a room ready. "Great!" I thought but when we got to the room, the accommodations were incorrect. I had booked a Garden View Room with double Queen Beds (not a single King). So we went back downstairs to the receptionist desk to say that the room was incorrect. The receptionists initial response was that rooms were provided "based on availability. That was an unacceptable answer in my opinion. We made a specific booking. It should have been honored. So we had to wait another 30 minutes or so to get into a double Queen Room which still wasn't a Garden View Room but we accepted it because it suited our needs. If you're keeping tabs on the time we have now wasted nearly three (3) hours of our much needed vacation. [Subsequent visits to the front desk would take a minimum of fifteen (15) minutes and sometimes take more than thirty (30) minutes. It was extremely frustrating.] Meanwhile, I gave the keys to our rental car to a Bell-boy who said he would park the car in the lot. He parked it and gave us a ticket for hourly parking when he should've told us that the resort has an arrangement for $5 a day. The receptionists had cards for that. Security was gracious enough to guide me through this stuff when I was trying to find the car later (the bell-boy didn't specify row or aisle for location). On a trip to a market, I would later find out that he (the bell-boy) had somehow dented the front right bumper on the car. I was fortunate enough to have been able to pull the dent out with my bare hands. On subsequent visits to the front desk we would overhear several other complaints about the parking lot issues. As we tried to get our vacation underway, we found that several of the restaurants would simply not be open, ever, during our stay. The resort alternated between their Palm Grill and Ocean Point Restaurants as well as your standard buffet station. So the Asian, Pub, Pizzeria restaurants etc. were never in rotation. In addition, if you needed a late night snack, you were out of luck, as only Ocean Point Resort guests had access to room service after 11pm. The minibar had four (4) cans of soft drinks and two (2) cans of beer along with four full bottles of assorted alcohol (Whisky, Gin, Vodka etc.). It took an extra phone call to get the minibar restocked, which we didn't understand because we thought it would be restocked during housekeeping rounds. By the way, the service at the buffet was inconsistent. The social distancing wasn't quite right (sometimes it seemed to me that parties were held too close together). When we were seated and situated sometimes we would be asked what drink we wanted, other times we were completely forgotten and had to swivel our heads around to try and find someone to order a drink through. I should note here that the pool area had a grill master who was always ready. So you could grab a hotdog or burger pretty fast during pool hours. Speaking of which, we had to call three (3) times for refills of the body-wash/shampoo/conditioner dispensers in the bathrooms at one point. On another occasion we had to call twice over the course of three (3) hours to get housekeeping to get us new towels and do a quick clean-down. We knew the time elapsed because we had breakfast and went to the gym afterwards. About the Gym, the ceiling is a little low and it seems like most of the machines in there focused on legs (e.g. presses, treadmills, ellipticals etc). There was a bench as well but take note: If you are an elite athlete or training to become one, the gym will prove woefully inadequate. There's nowhere to do pullups or Latissimus pull downs. You would be very hard pressed to get a full upper body workout in there. I had to skip three planned workouts because the equipment was limited. It struck me at one point that this gym didn't look like the gym photos I saw on the website or third party sites. I saw THAT gym through the windows of the Ocean Point resort. When I asked whether or not we could use that gym (hoping there was more space and equipment) I was told that we couldn't. By the way, if you wanted electrolyte replacement you had no options on the resort. We had to make a stop at Maho Market to grab Gatorade and more water (since our minibar wasn't being restocked quickly enough. I should say that the Cafe in the lobby did have chilled water that you could grab on the way in or out. The bar areas had great drink service though I was disappointed that they didn't have Bacardi Anejo. I recall that the mask mandate was seldom enforced in the lobby so I maintained use of my N95 mask when passing through. I also remember that the receptionists didn't let us know about our resort credits. So upon checkout we found out that we had pretty much the whole amount left over and tried to use it in the shop. The resort then charged my credit card $30 x 2. For what reason? I don't know. The bottom line is that the though the resort is technically "all-inclusive" it leaves a LOT to be desired. Take this with grain of salt because I'm a little bit spoiled having been to many resorts across different islands and countries. The only things great about the place are it's location in proximity to the Airport and Maho Beach.

My best friend and I came to this resort for our annual trip. With Covid, we weren’t sure what to expect. The service was above and beyond anything we could have expected. We stayed at the adult side, but visited the family side as well and anywhere we went we were met with kindness, willingness to help, and always provided direction when we needed it. Well the schedules were limited due to Covid, the food was excellent. All staff were exceedingly helpful from check-in staff, to restaurant staff, bartenders, to anyone else that you would randomly grab to ask a question. If they didn’t have the answer, they quickly found it. We also had a butler service and Ranjit was amazing. He went above abs beyond to help us work covid tests, excursions and just overall poolside service. I don’t even have enough time to say how wonderful he was. Now I am also a mother of two so I have a few noteworthy things. The Maho beach water was exceedingly rough. We got in at one day, but other than that we’re unable to swim at the beach. We did walk to mullet Bay and found we could swim and snorkel there, but the water was still pretty rough. I don’t know that this is common for this area, but as a family if the water is always this roof we would not stay here. It’s worth taking a taxi to Cupecoy Bay. We hiked up the road and visited various caves on the beach. This was an amazing experience. We also took an excursion on a speed boat which the resort help us set up. This was an all day thing and we got to see the French side of the island. Particularly Pennell island was a highlight. I absolutely recommend going. Sammy, our boat captain was amazing. I get motion sickness easy, it was very concerned, and the staff at Sonesta talk to me through what would be the best excursion and they were absolutely right. They were very patient with my questions and beyond helpful. Amazing place- I absolutely would return with my BFF.

Stayed for five nights. Arrived at lobby and was greeted with champagne and towels. Hotel staff were very professional and polite. Room was clean. Services at hotel were amazing. We utilized all resort restaurants and attended and even participated in events. Great choices to choose from when it came to food and drinks. Had a great time and would highly recommend to anyone wanting to make a visit to stay. Coming back soon!

My bf and I just got back from our vacation at Sonesta Maho in St Maarten and it was AMAZING! Everyone there was so pleasant and welcoming. The resort was so clean and beautiful. And the Food!!!! OMG!!! So delicious. I can not wait to go back. I will definitely be looking for my friend at Ocean Terrace where we had breakfast every morning. Simone treated us so well. She was so lovely. We literally looked for her every morning. Everyone at the resort was so nice. Thank you all.

What a wonderful week we had at the Sonesta Maho Beach on St. Maarten. As our daughter is celiac, she follows a strict gluten-free diet. And all the staff at the restaurants of Sonesta were so nice, taking excellent care, with gluten-free pancakes, cereals and waffles in the morning, excellent pizza's and lots of other gluten-free options for lunch and dinner. Special thanks to Sharon, and the three chefs for taking such good care. And not only for the gluten-free food, but also for ourselves, the restaurants were excellent. Food is really good, far above the standards we expected for an all-inclusive. And the fact you can choose from the buffet restaurant or a-la carte was really nice. Besides the food, our whole experience was excellent. The hotel is very well renovated, rooms spacious, clean, good beds and pillows. Yes, you hear a bit of the music at night, but after 22h it is mostly silent and we all slept well. The pool is just fantastic, well heated and the pool bar is so nice. Also the beach is great. I thought that the planes coming in and going might become annoying after a few days, but that was not the case at all- every day we had fun watching and it is only between 12:00 and 14:00 that the big ones come and go. As for the beach itself- we drove all around the island to find that the Maho beach and the nearby Mullet beach were the best ones on the island. Just while snorkelling off Maho beach, I saw barracuda, stingrays, puffer fish, squid and many other fish. Special thanks for Nadine who helped us getting our reservations done last-minute, she was so friendly and flexible with regards to our COVID-19 tests. It was so nice to meet Nadine during our stay. Next time to St. Maarten we will stay at Sonesta again, and we recommend it to our friends!
