We called in on the off chance of a Sunday lunch. Staff are really super helpful. The beef roast was probably the best I've ever eaten - rare 42 aged beef, fresh horseradish, crispy roast potatoes, fresh veg and a side of golden bubbling cauliflower cheese. £16.50 which is quite high for a roast but then it's not an average... We took friends for lunch and our table was in the conservatory. While the food and the service was good, we did however have to share our area with an abundance of flys, which was distracting and disconcerting. The staff and pub however were lovely and welcoming after a long walk in the country.

After a long walk (5 miles) and feeling exhausted I fell into The Beckford Arms with friends. I chose the mackerel - which was actually a starter - but hunger was not gnawing. It was rather overdone and cotton woolly but pleasant enough and the pickled things with it were excellent. Maybe I chose unwisely since those about me were... More

Dropped in here just to look at the menu for a future date as had heard what great food they served here. I decided to have a Bloody Mary which was made for me by Kevin Delaney and the best I have ever partaken of! He made us feel extremely welcome, full of humour and warmth which is exactly what... I recently had a lovely lunch here with a friend. The weather was luckily still warm enough for us to sit outside. We both had the Cornwall Fish and Chips and they were outstanding and cooked to perfection. We were also served by a lovely helpful waitress. Would highly recommend the Beckford for excellent food and service.

We travelled 30 miles out of our way as this pub had such good reviews. It is indeed fabulously aspected and the atmosphere inside is buzzy, sophisticated and classy. However, we were slightly disappointed with the menu and both of us ordered the burgers when in fact neither of us is a burger eater. There just didn't seem to be... More

Hidden away on the vast 18th Century pleasure gardens of the Fonthill estate once owned by the richest and, some say, most notorious, man in England, this beautiful pub offers an setting that is hard to beat. The food is imaginative and delicious. Everything is done properly and discreetly and no eyebrows will be raised if you fail to use... More

We have eaten here several times and always had a great time. Good kitchen with lots to select from on the menu. Service is usually from young locals and generally friendly and pleasant. Well run place and worth a journey.

As a rare treat we booked in here for Sunday lunch. We were a little disappointed to be put in the lounge right by the door ensuring that we had people walking past our table to exit/ enter. It also felt a little like intruding on a family get together as there seemed to be quite a little reunion occurring... More
