We stayed here 2 nights in September when visiting friends who live in a nearby village. The room was cosy, bed comfortable and we slept well. In the morning it was nice to walk down to the village shop for the paper. I had eaten here on a previous visit to the area and was not disappointed with the evening...

Have had many meals at the Royal Oak but my latest visit was disappointing. I ordered Lasagne with Cheesey Garlic Bread.......this was one of the cheapest options on a lunch time bar menu at £11.......prices I thought were a little steep. The meal came on a not too warm plate. A large chunk of Lasagne seated on a bed of...

Happy to find this recommended pub open out of season. Table for 2 , roaring log fire and interesting pub menu. Enjoyed the steak and house burger, good selection of ales and wines, made to feel very welcome.

Stayed here for 3 nights in October 2015. The owner was friendly and more than accommodating as for personal reasons we had to vary the dates of our trip and phoned up several times and he was polite and understanding. The rooms are old and quirky whilst still comfortable and of high standard. The pub itself is cosy and welcoming...

Excellent break in this idyllic country pub. The room was very spacious and a little quirky! Breakfast was excellent (smoked haddock and poached eggs, locally smoked kippers, the best porridge ever). Staff were friendly and helpful but not overbearing. Excellent location for walking and cycling on Exmoor. Would definitely recommend and look forward to a re-visit!

Stopped here half way through a day's walking with two friends and two dogs, the latter being welcomed into the bar area and a water bowl outside. Food on the menu was more than adequate choice wise and I opted for a Somerset Brie ploughman's and extra of chips, which was very good. My 'co-diners' had a cheddar ploughman's and...

In season you need to book both for Lunch and Diner as very popular with visitors and locals. As usual the food was very good varied menu and reasonably priced. Check out of season on opening hours beginning of October we found closed Mondays and Tuesdays

We are holiday regulars at this great pub in Withypool and have eaten here on many occasions and I can highly recommend the food. The menu is gastro style using lovely local seasonal produce, at our most recent visit this summer the hogget was to die for. Portion size is large and they are always happy to offer 1/2 portions...

We had a lovely stay at The Royal Oak. Our room (room 3) was very good, lovely comfy bed, well equipped and nicely decorated. The bathroom was a good size with a bath and an electric overhead shower which gave lots of lovely hot water. I couldn't fault the food at The Royal Oak. It was so good we didn't...

Stayed at the Royal Oak for one night - booked a double through Late Rooms yet got the last room - a twin, which was disappointing. The quality of the beds, a great night's sleep and excellent breakfast with a discount for the mix-up more than made up for the error. Lovely stay.
