This was our second visit to this lovely hotel in a year. We booked a patio room and can highly recommend this as a lovely room for the summer months, our trip this time although sunny, it wasn't warm enough to sit outside, shame.....The hotel has a lovely friendly feel to it , helped by the nice staff. Situated on...

I simply loved the Royal Lion. It had such charm, with a labyrinth of rooms and exposed beams. Free parking behind is great! Location is wonderful... just metres from the the water and the fossil beaches. Staff were all friendly and helpful and the breakfast was excellent, cooked to order.

An excellent position no more than 100 metres from the seafront and central to all of the attractions of Lyme bay. Nice bar and full some breakfast included within the price. BUT quite expensive relative to the standard. Yes it has a swimming pool and games room but it is not good enough to justify £150 per night for a...

We have had a lovely weekend at The Royal Lion on what was our first visit to Lyme Regis. First impressions were very good and it was lovely to see that the main fabric of the old building has not been ruined by the typical glass and chrome refurbishment that is ruining some lovely hotels around the country. The bar...

It was our 3rd stay at The Royal Lion and again it was lovely, we stayed in a courtyard room which has everything you need. Stayed for one night in this lovely hotel. Great location (with parking) and a great ambience. The bar, lounge and reception are real "olde worlde" but he rooms are a bit dated- ours did have a splendid view. Breakfast was memorable. The breakfast room is beautifully appointed and could serve as a settng for a very formal dinner, there is...

We ended up at this hotel having checked in a straight out of another hotel due to it being extremely poor. It was with trepidation we viewed the view before booking. However we were pleasantly surprised. The hotel itself is set back from the pub which is good. Its a little walk to the room but that did not matter...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
At the heart of the idyllic town of Lyme Regis, 'the Pearl of Dorset', is the Royal Lion Hotel, a stunning haven located in the middle of the High Street, with its own private car park. Lyme Regis is a picturesque town on the West Dorset border, part of the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage site. Steeped in history, it is renowned for its fascinating past, mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, the unique fossils found in the cliffs and beaches, and for being the central location of the novel and the 1981 film, 'The French Lieutenant's Woman'. Situated less than 100 metres from the sea, the Royal Lion Hotel is a perfect base from which to explore the locale. Built in 1601 as a coaching inn, the Hotel has been extensively refurbished, yet still retains much of its history and unique charm. Oak beams, wood panelling and open fires help to create a warm, welcoming and comfortable atmosphere, with new additions of its own swimming pool and other facilities. Wi-Fi, although not available in the bedrooms, is available to guests in several areas of the hotel. Privately owned and managed, the Royal Lion Hotel has gained an enviable reputation for its friendly service, world class food and wine and leisure offerings. ... more   less
