The Dome House is a quirky 1 story house with a large dome that overlooks the 18th green and has direct access to the golf course. We stayed here with our 2 Grandsons aged 8 and 11. The house is sandwiched between the health club and other rental accommodation and accessed through a small courtyard. Most of the external windows overlook the 18th green and on towards Polzeath and the sea.
What we liked: 1. It was a very pleasant walk down to Polzeath beach where the boys had their surfing lessons. 2. The dome itself is impressive and gives wonderful views especially the sunsets. 3. The Point has golf, a Gym and Pool next door, driving range and tennis courts for hire so there are lots of things to do without having to drive somewhere. 4. There is lots of parking available. 5. The bathrooms were warm and nicely fitted out.
We were disappointed with: 1. There is a constant hum from the pool filtration/heating plant next door. 2. There is WiFi but it is similar to a corporate arrangement where it is free for so long (not very long) and then it drops your connection. When logging back in you are offered the opportunity to pay for a week's uninterrupted connection at the rate of £10.00 per device. We felt the same as other reviewers that the WiFi should be there in the same way as the electricity or TV signal are there to use. We got the usual excuses of Broadband is patchy in Cornwall and you could call the service provider. 3.We were a party of 4 with us in the main bedroom and the boys taking 1 bedroom each, I'm not convinced it would have been that comfortable with 6 in the house 4. We had a problem with the front door lock and as per the cottage instruction called the house keeper, her phone rang out and was not able to leave a message. This is a service issue but the service is part of the rental of the property. 5. Our mobiles are on Vodafone and O2 and we could not get a signal, we were told EE and 3 can get better signals. As there is no house phone and we could not get a signal this made life difficult. 6. When it was sunny the Dome is unusable as it does not have any effective ventilation and gets very hot.
Overall it was a good stay just let down by things that we just take for granted and some aspects of the service.
If you want to be woken early in the morning by the lawnmower on the golf green right outside, or by the loud aerobics class in the gym which shares a wall with the property, then this is the place for you!
If you want a shower that doesn't drain, furniture and a dishwasher which are broken, and have a heating system which doesn't work properly then pick the Dome House!
Overall: very noisy and poorly maintained. Misleadingly described by Cornish Horizons. Very disappointing.
We stayed at the Dome House that is one of several houses attached to the golf club. Positives: 1. Heath Club and gym next door - good sized pool with inflatables for the kids and a laned area for a swim. Modern gym. 2. Lovely 1 mile walk down to Polzeath Beach across the fairway and through a wooded area. Parking is limited in Polzeath if you arrive after 11am so this was a real bonus. Camp site bar on the way back if you are thirsty for a pint of Cornish cider! 3. Great views from the sun deck and the Dome itself - overlooking the 18th and a sea view. 4. Very quiet and peaceful - ( no weddings - unlike the previous reviewer).
Negatives: 1. Third bedroom near the pool generator - had a constant hum 2. In an age where the most basic cafe, and even the local bus is offering free wifi - we were very surprised to have to pay 10 pound PER DEVICE for 5 days. For the amount that we paid in high season, the WIFI should have denfinitely been included. 3. A three bedroom house is obviously aimed at 6 people - but only a 4 person heath club pass was included. The charge to use the health club for two people for a week was 50 pound.
Before I booked I recall that I was carefully not told that the Dome House is actually part of the golf clubhouse, one of four or so appartments along with the health club in a large building. The web site is unclear about this too. We were warned prior to arrival that the restaurant was not open on the Saturday we arrived due to a wedding and without local knowledge we asked where we could go to eat. We were sent to a rubbish cafe so didnt stay and ended up hunting around for other venues which is annoying if youre tired as we were at that point. Later that evening we had to endure yobs, loud music and the sound of glasses smashing all the way past midnight from the wedding party, so a nasty undernourished first night. On the Sunday we visited the restaurant for lunch to catch up on our eating. The response from the staff was -"sorry we have a party of 70" so no room for residents. Again, we had to go hunting from place to place and untlimately failed to find anywhere for Sunday lunch. Sorry thats just not good enough Roserrow! The Dome House itself has very good rooms and bathrooms however, strangely it feels a bit 'closed-in' downstairs because of the relatively small windows. Looking out over the 18th green is nice though. Bedroom 3 at the front is unusable unless you are deaf because it is next to the swiming pool pump room which is a source of noise & vibration 18 hours a day. We kept this as the spare room, I certainly couldnt have slept in there. The top deck and the dome room are good, very spacious, but note the dome room is a greenhouse -very hot when the sun shines, too hot to use. The health club is very good and the pool very nice but watch out for the swimming lesson class in the afternoon, the instructress had an quite an unpleasant attitude toward about others sharing the pool. Summary: sold to me as five star but is too flawed to be so. I didnt get a good break and overpaid to boot. Its a golf club so dont expect 'warm and friendly'.
