This was the second visit to The Bear. On the first stay, I had a room in the main hotel. Though it was slightly down at heel, its quirkiness compensated a little and overall I was impressed. This time however, I was not so lucky. My room was in a courtyard annexe to the rear of the main hotel. It...

We stayed here for one night as we'd fancied a trip out this way, this hotel seemed nice and was very reasonably priced, upon arrival we were checked in quickly and efficiently and directed to our room, the room was a decent size, with a big bed, the bathroom whilst looking reasonably new was a little bit shabby, everything worked...

Booked a dog friendly room (17) as I had my little dog with me! I knew that the room would probably not be a nice as others and That was fine! Omg the smell of dog when I opened the door was just overwhelming it took my breath away. I had to open all the windows and froze all night....

I was here for one night only, and I thought the staff were charming. The breakfast was also good. Unfortunately the room itself wasn't ideal. I was in a room off the courtyard and the squeaking floorboards from the room above ensured I couldn't sleep past 6:30am. The room and bathroom felt a bit grubby, damp walls, peeling paint etc....

Stayed here for 2 nights whilst attending a wedding. For 2 nights the stay was fine but not memorable. All a bit tired ( tear in duvet, stain on carpet, crack in bathroom floor tile etc) but clean enough and plenty of hot water etc. Breakfasts were ok but not memorable. So average is fair rating I believe.

Terrible food never again, starter as bad as the main, burnt, limes looked like the were rotten, all in all bad. Staff friendly though. And love the old building, such a shame good be brilliant for such a nice town.

Lovely characterful inn, friendly helpful staff, comfortable beds in good sized room. Hot chocolate and biscuits a nice touch. Dinner was tasty though pasta sauce was a little oily, making it extremely rich. Free parking and easy walk to train station. Only let down was the cooked breakfast, which we've now tried on two visits and each time could not...

Dingy room with filthy stained sticky carpet. I had to lay towels on the floor to walk on. Ordered a sandwich and it was stale and swimming in mayonnaise. The cleanliness was terrible. The bathroom was awful. The shower floor was a pool as soon as the shower was turned on. Paint was peeling off the walls and the ceiling...

Went for Valentine's Day treat with my wife. Room an banks of the stream running past the hotel, was basic, but very comfortable. Staff and meals all excellent. We were able to take our young dog with us and the site was perfect for him too. Barman didn't know how to make the cocktail my wife wanted, but his colleague...
