I’ve been here twice and will continue coming to this hotel. It’s located on a beautiful garden, with the beach over the road and at the right distance from summer-crowded Tarifa. Its laid-back atmosphere pulls you immediately to a vacation mindset. I love the retro touch of its decoration, the no-thrills approach of the facilities and the exotic touch of the peacocks wandering through the garden. The restaurant is extremely pleasant with its outdoor seating facing the beautiful garden, fish is fresh and service is careful. Having said this, it’s a pity that this hotel doesn’t improve a few things that are below standard and not aligned with their prices: - Breakfast: good variety but low-cost products. This can be easily improved with cherry-picked items such as specialty coffee, ham and cheese of superior quality (instead of basic supermarket quality), option to have eggs cooked as you like (instead of only boiled eggs), another natural juice apart from orange. - Service: generally nice but could use a more proactive approach. When asked if I could switch to a larger room, I received the answer “we are full but please swing by to see if there are any cancellations during the week” instead of “let me make a note and I will call you if there are any cancellations” - Tennis: Nice tennis court but hotel guests need to pay €10/hour to use it, which is of really bad taste given the current price point. Also even though there is a good tennis teacher in the area and you can hire him for classes, this is not advertised on the hotel’s leaflet given at the check-in. - Bar: the beautiful lodge deserves a better-quality bar, with a barman preparing some mean cocktails and a few all-day tasty snacks and salads - Gym and spa: again, don’t know if it is possible to do any massage or treatment because no one proactively tells you about this at check-in. But with the lovely facility facing the garden and the pool, seems a waste not to use it. - Beach service: With a desert (yet rocky) beach just on the other side of the road, it would be a plus if they would prepare packaged lunches and a beach kit (sunshade, towels) All in all, if you enjoy a high-level service hotel, this is not your place. But you’ll have a blast if you fancy a no-thrills, laid-back vacation.

This place is nothing particular to look at as you turn off into the forecourt but the bland façade conceals a delightful and very large landscaped garden behind around which the rooms are scattered in cottages, along with the huge pool and open-air dining area. We had a junior suite, one of a few at the rear of the property, and it was simply furnished but good value. Large bed-sitting room, cavernous bathroom with centrally located standalone bath, and equally large toilet. Its location, well away from the busy N340 at the front, was extremely quiet and it came with its own private terrace. The real star of the show during out stay though was the food. It was tasty, well-presented, came in huge portions, and inexpensive. Service was impeccable and since we had lunch and dinner on each day of our four days there we had plenty of opportunity to judge. The gardens are lovely and the taste of the food was enhanced by the colours of sunset, the sound of an ornamental waterfall, and the calls of large numbers of birds returning to roost for the night including occasionally from a peacock which wanders the grounds all day. Be warned though this is a family hotel and we were there during the school holidays. At times it was extremely noisy by the pool.

Can’t fault this place. The rooms are big and clean, the garden is beautifully kept, and the pool area is nice. The included breakfast Is really good and there is lots of choice. They also have a tennis court which you can pay to use (€10/hour approx). The hotel is close to several beaches. Only criticism would be that there could be more staff in the restaurant in the evening... but equally there are so many nice restaurants in Tarifa that I’d recommend going there!

Hotel Punta Sur is a new favourite accomodation in Tarifa, no doubt about it. Ideal location, excellent service and clean rooms. Good food and reasonably priced. What more can you ask for? Make sure to take time to stroll the gardens and enjoy the flowers, peacocks and the little pond with turtoises. Enjoy!

A great hotel off the main road, situated in fabulous grounds, the main building is decorated in Gaudi-esque tiles and interesting art. The restaurant is fantastic, serving the best sea bream I ever tasted along with a good selection of meats and vegetarian platters. The bungalow style rooms are well equipped with minibar and television; however, the smell of damp was overwhelming when we walked in, and it was evident from the walls by the beds that this is where the problem lies. One of the bedside lights was not working, the safe was not working, the shower was erratic, and our balcony door was found to be unlocked, with no key in the lock. The problem was resolved when we were told that our room key works to lock this door, but only from the outside. Clear instructions on use of this key, the television and the air conditioning would have been good. The pool is wonderful with plenty of sun beds and bean bags but the peaceful atmosphere was somewhat spoiled by the noisy communion party guests who ended up swimming and splashing around in their underwear and the blaring party music. The peacocks which live on the grounds are spectacular and are obviously used to being photographed as they wander about freely. I would return to this lovely hotel, but would welcome an improvement in maintenance.
