Typical Spanish hotel room, clean, comfortable beds and good shower. We had half board and wish we had gone for breakfast only. Typical evening meal pork with mushroom sauce, chips and boiled rice. We ate out four evenings for a change of food. Location was brilliant and we could see the sea from bedroom window through the palm trees. There were many musical performers in the square and they didn’t disturb our sleep at all because the room was soundproof once the balcony door was closed. Staff were very nice but language was a problem albeit a small one. We managed to understand each other. No pool, obviously due to location but beach either side of hotel which we visited every day. A little tip about sun beds they are limited but you can book a day in advance for €1 per sunbed. Then it’s €6 for the day. We did this every day and were guaranteed a bed rather than lying in the sand.

If you wish to live in the heart of the town of Nerja, the Marissal by Dorobe is clearly a top contender to consider. If you choose a room with a sea view (a room near the sea, is NOT a sea view room), you will be overlooking the Balcon de Europa, which has to be one of the best locations in the whole of Nerja. The room we had was adequate for our needs with a very comfortable bed and pillows. Air conditioning was very good. The room was cleaned daily and was spotless after. There was a small Juliet balcony with views over the Balcon area and sea, with double doors that when closed, completely blocked out all noise outside. All in all a brilliant location.

There were however a few negative points. The bathroom shower area was needing spruced up, as the shower area itself was in need of refurbishing and a deep clean, resealing of joints etc.

However, breakfast time was a huge disappointment. Thankfully, we did not include having breakfast when we booked our holiday room, but at the start of our 10 day stay, we did buy breakfast 3 mornings. On the first morning after arriving, very late the night before, we entered the breakfast room at 9.55am to be told breakfast had finished at 10am. As it was not yet 10am we took a seat and managed to grab a croissant and a coffee from a coffee machine, to the disgust of our patrons. Next morning we were bright and early, grabbed a croissant, coffee and headed outside the open door to a table, to be told we can’t sit outside, although non guests were. The last morning we had breakfast, we had no time to choose anything other than a croissant, as the guy who worked the bar area came through and started to remove all the breakfast offerings, which consisted of a few slices of ham, cheese, hard boiled eggs in a basket, a few slices of bacon and very little else and the food on offer never changed over the period we stayed. These interactions at breakfast time soured our otherwise pleasant stay at the Marissal.

Whilst holidaying in Nerja previously, although not staying at the Marissal, we used to often stop and have lunch, a drink, coffee etc, but on this occasion we decided to take our custom elsewhere, after our breakfast experiences. It’s such a shame, as their location is perfect to sit and watch the world go by.

Would we go back to stay at the Marissal, possibly yes, for the location only, certainly not for their customer service or lack of interaction with their guests. 5 star location, 2 star experience.

Words just can’t describe how beautiful nerja is and I managed to pick in my opinion the best place to stay in nerja. The room we were in was lovely, clean with adequate room, the staff were so helpful and friendly. Chamber maid always had a smile and cheerful hello. The hotel itself i think needs to put better pictures up as their current ones don’t do it the justice it so rightly deserves. The hotel is perfectly situated in the heart of the balcon which is the main part of nerja. We could hear the peal of bells from the beautiful church across the square on the hour and half hour (only during daytime) which was lovely. We could go out of the hotel and turn left, walk down the path and you were on the beach which is in a cove. In fact the path split into two so you had a choice of two coves and beaches. We would take a stroll along the beach every night after an evening in the town square. The only thing that could have made our stay better at the hotel would have been a table in the room and a balcony overlooking the sea so we could have sat drinking a tea or coffee in the morning or last thing at night whilst overlooking the the sea. Well this was easily remedied. We stayed in November 22 and we have already booked to go back to nerja and at the same wonderful hotel but this time paid the little extra for a balcony with a sea view. We cant wait. Whilst we were there we took down many numbers and website addresses and did plenty of research but believe me you will not find a better location for your money. If you are thinking of staying in nerja join the Facebook group “nerja lovers” you will see plenty of videos and take my advice stay at the marissal its the best place to be and thank me later

We booked a room with sea view, paid extra in advance for that. When we came we found out that the ground floor of the hotel is a construction site, it is being renovated at the moment (march 2022). There was noone there, a telephone number was displayed outside where noone answered when I dialled. Luckily a cleaning woman saw us and let us in. She organized that someone came and gave us keys for our room. The rooms are still in operation. I had the impression that noone actually knew of our reservation. The room was facing the sea, but there was another construction site right in front of our window at the Balcón the Europe, looked like a digger with a jack hammer. It was incredibly loud. So there was construction noise from downstairs and from outside. A complete nightmare. As I had already paid and there was noone responsible on site we stayed that one night, but I really don't think that this is acceptable. We should have been advised about that beforehand or at least should have been given a room facing the other direction and not to the outside construction site and given a refund. I wrote to the management and complained but they didn't even bother to answer my mail.
An absolute No-Go!!!!!

We had never stopped for a drink here before but we certainly will return.
It's a wonderful place to sit and watch the world go by in the Balcon square, especially in the evening when there are buskers nearby.
The service is good and the drinks are reasonably priced
We have not visited the actual hotel, only the outside bar area

One of my worse hotel experiences of my life.
Nothing is as described. This hotel has no air con. There’s a button for it but nothing else. Balcony room with no balcony? Just patio doors to a railing. The too. Is filthy and very dated. Bathroom is grimy and the water has an oil residue. Dirty towels too. Hotel is no smoking but my neighbour was smoking like crack head with nothing said to him.
Management will laugh in your face if you ask to move rooms or a refund too. They told me to contact my holiday provider for a refund… they tell me I should have got it from them. So I’m hundreds out of pocket and no one seems to give a toss.

Do not let the price fool you. This hotel has a prime location. They should ask for a bit more because it is right on the Balcon de Europa and near two great beaches - like 2 mins away. You come out from the hotel and the square is right there with food and shopping and nightly music. It is not a fancy hotel, but it works and the rooms are comfortable with great sea views (ask for it) and the prices are amazing and the breakfast is included. The staff works so hard. The location is prime. I would stay here again. Do not forget to taxi to Frigiliana (4 miles away). Cute little village there with a little train that can take you around town. Fun for adults and kids too.

This is a small hotel in a wonderful position in Nerja. Our room is simply furnished with exceedingly comfortable beds with lovely white bedding. We have a traditional balcony that looks over the Balcon to the sea and coastline.
The cafe/restaurant below is closed for winter holidays, so it gives a feel of private rooms which we like. We feel safe and secure as access is by card through 2 secure doors and then our room.
The housekeeping staff are friendly and efficient.
Reception is not open all the time. However, telephone contact is easy.
Right in the centre of Nerja, everything is within walking distance.
A weekend is not enough! We hope to return.

This Hotel is right in the Heart of Nerja. We had read the reviews before we stayed. I think some people want 4 star hotels but only pay 2 star prices! This hotel gives you all you need for a short stay. The hotel is clean and the staff are very friendly. We arrived early and spoke to Ava. She said our room was not ready but we could leave our bags. The hotel has been great to stay at and we will certainly come back and stay again.

A quick stop for a beer resulted in a late lunch which was superb. This was added by the excellent service from the friendly staff. With a lot of competition in the area the newly refurbished is one of the top places to visit. Open from 10am till late The Marissal can cater for all styles of eating.

Hmmm... it will not be possible to close really park by as the hotel is in a pedestrianized area and a lot of the streets around are pedestrian only. I think there is an underground carpark about 3 mins walk away or else there is definitely on street parking available about 5 mins on some of the main streets.
