The property is truly delightful! Nestled in a remote, serene location close to nature, it offers a spacious and beautifully designed interior that perfectly complements the old Georgian style. Jeff has done an exceptional job curating art pieces and objects throughout the space. My queen room was especially comfortable, with a cozy bed and an excellent bath tub ideal for a relaxing soak. All the amenities exceeded expectations.

Additionally, Svetlana offers a truly exceptional breakfast experience. Guests have the opportunity to select their preferred time slot and menu option the day before, adding a personalized touch to their stay. I've sampled various dishes, and each one was superb. A special mention goes to the coffee aficionados—the freshly brewed coffee served in a French press is a delightful departure from the typical instant coffee found at other B&Bs. Plus, they're always happy to offer refills for those who desire an extra cup.

Moreover, the B&B boasts three lovely dogs, ducks, and a beautiful garden to explore, making it the perfect place to relax and reconnect with nature. Without a doubt, it's the best B&B I've had the pleasure of staying in during my five years living in Ireland.

The venue is absolutely stunning! Both the grounds and the house itself is out of this world. Jeff was very accommodating and gave us our space to really enjoy the hen party. Everything was very clean, the beds were really comfortable and we had so much space for everyone. We had free run of the kitchen facilities to cook our breakfast and eat in the big dining room the following morning. I would highly recommend this venue for a Hen or Stag or even just a night away.

The room was beautiful, the gardens lovely, (if a little unkept, however forgivable given the weeks of rain). Even a little wild its beauty could be appreciated. Location so quiet and peaceful. Interior of house beautiful and room beautiful and comfortable.
Breakfast dissapointing and service sloppy. We were given butter and jam on being seated and ordered cooked breakfasts. When breakfasts arrived we were offered tea/coffee and toast???? Toast was barely coloured, needed another run through toaster. Tea qnd toast should arrive prior to the breakfast in my opinion. Quality of breakfast items was lacking and mine was luke warm even though we were the only two guests in dining room. A pity, a good breakfast would have made this unique experience perfection.

We were a group of 19 for a hen party. Our stay was pleasant and the rooms were great, but we left with a bad taste at the end of our stay.

We stayed there for 1 night. The manager had a mix up between how many people were staying in our group vs. the following week’s group but it was resolved eventually.

We had paid 2.5K+ for 1 night between us and 200e Outside catering fee.

Before we arrived, we were also asked to give 750 Euro deposit for cleaning fee which was confirmed that most likely we will get the full of it back.

There were rules mentioned passively when we arrived with no clear separation of green bin vs waste bin (the labels were ripped off before we got there) and on top of that, there was no facilitation there for a group to split the waste at ease. Hence, as a group of 19 guest to Clone House, we tried our best to separate our waste as much as possible.

We also placed bottles in the crate where the manager had told us to, and he had mentioned that he could also do it, but did not mention that there would be extra cost to this.

We kept the place spotless, and cleaned throughout the evening and morning of the areas we were hanging out including: the dining area, kitchen, living/drawing room.

When we were leaving, which the manager claimed that we left in a hurry in our communications after our stay… we had to, as it was 11:30am and he had explicitly mentioned that the check out time was 11am. The manager complained that we failed to separate our 5 bags of rubbish, and not haul the bottles away and claimed that it was going to be 100-150e charge to have this resolved. I didn’t think this was acceptable, but we left it at that on that day.

The manager then transferred back 675e (deposit of 750e) and claimed that the 75e had to go towards separating the waste (which could have been mitigated if there were the right facilities for the guests) and clearing the bottles that were all placed in one place.

He also claimed that 75e is already a good deal and that he waived the fee on clearing the confetti
on the floor which was only in 1 section of the whole house. The confetti material was light, hence hoovering would have taken 2 minutes max.

I sent the manager an email reply to share that this was disappointing, and then I received an email from the manager arguing that out of all the generations ours should be more conscious, which is reasonable, but how can a group of 19 people facilitate splitting the bins for the venue if there weren’t any facilities for us to do so?

Hence, with doing the maths above, I found charging an extra 75e wasn’t entirely fair, considering how much we’ve paid already.

I would recommend the venue, but it felt to me that the manager was in no rush to appreciate how much we had to spend to cover the 1 night and have no concept in helping the guests whatsoever to enjoy their stay. Poor customer experience and will not be rushing back. Would not recommend to any hen party planners.

Response from Jeff Watson, Owner at Clone Country House

We have held over 100 hen parties and this is first group we have had to ban from further use. Contract clearly stated no use of confetti and glitter and they left mess of confetti from confetti balloons which gets into cracks and out into gardens and takes months to find and pick up all pieces. But the worst offence was there disregard of most basic of green habits in separations of bottles and cans from rubbish. Imagine having to have a staff person to dig through there mash of food rubbish to pick out recyclables. The disregard from millennials for the need to separate and handle recyclables appropriately was shocking. Highly uncouth behaviours, lacking in respect for others leaving them to separate their rubbish and basic lack of respect for protecting planet against global warming. That after violating rules against confetti and rules requiring they at least separate their glass and bottles in a civil fashion then lamenting about a €75 charge is absurd. We have dozens of favourable hen party reviews from lovely young ladies respectful of the house, house rules and the planet.

Just returned home from a weekend of family fun with 24 adults. This is the perfect location and setting for a large gathering, the space, the rooms, the design and the food were all simply incredible. The hosts are wonderful and could not be more accommodating. We will certainly return! The breakfast is amazing, the gardens are perfect!

We really enjoyed our stay in Clone House. We were a group of 13, and had the house to ourselves. The local village is a 5 min drive away and is a beautiful small town. Orla's Kitchen from the local village catered for lunch and the food was super.

Jeff and the staff went above and beyond and the Italien food catered by the house for dinner was delicious. Breakfast the following morning was top class. The dining area comfortable sat 15 people and had a lovely atmosphere.

The rooms were lovely, clean, spacious and each had their own unique style.

We really enjoyed our stay.

The grounds and outside of the house looks lovely, when seeing the downstairs rooms you can see why Downton Abbey filmed here.
Then you go upstairs to the rooms, the hall carpet is threadbare on the stairs, the toilet/shower for our family room was across otherside of the hotel over a minutes walk away. The lights at night in the hall way are not sufficient. The room and the toilet were far from clean. The wooden floors in the bedroom was splintered as were the corners of the table. Far from safe, slippers or shoes had to be worn
The door does not fit the frame so the dogs barking in the room across the corridor sounded like it was in the room with you, luckily the Internet is free and good as the rooms have no TV.
We did not speak to the receptionist as she came across rude and unhelpful
After a poor night sleep as I found the beds uncomfortable we had a faultlessly cooked breakfast served by a very efficient waitress in a stunning room overlooking the beautiful grounds.
Such a shame

We had two lovely rooms and the house is really pretty and the gardens are so well kept. I made bit of a mistake in not reading the location or dining amenities correctly as we d been driving all day the point was to go somewhere that we coukd just walk to a restaurant and have a drink also. So had to drive back into aughrim which was a, pain They do though thoughtfully leave corkscrew and wine glasses in the room which is what we did. But some sort of dining and drinks would make this perfect.
The big airdale dog welcoming you is a big softy and if you want dog freindly but nice place it's perfect. It was, spotless. Only small fault I was a bit cold in my room.

Such a disappointment.
Very unwelcoming and bad mannered owner .
We visited this place after COVID .The room was far from luxury ,lots of health and safety issues .We had so much trouble with shower, cables sticking under bath, doors handle was falling every time we touched it and definitely need to be room painted .The smell from the wardrobe was so discussing and House was freezing. We tried still enjoyed the stay and the view unfortunately the windows where so dirty to looking true .
We enjoyed trips around but when we come back we find out that staff was in room and toked matt from that disaster folding bed which we got to sleep on .
Cooked breakfast was lovely but unfortunately scones, fruit ,ceraelie where not covered with flys around them.
Surprisingly you call your house dog friendly which was the reason why we picked this house . Unfortunately looked to me that is friendly only for the owners dogs as other dogs have to be on lead and no way they can bark .

The manners we had been “welcomed” and spoke to where so rude and maid us so uncomfortable that we cut the stay for 1 nite and left 21.00 evening .

If you wish to get worst expensive experience this is the house for it .
So sad how owner looking after guests which come to rest hope he get some better management to run the business as he is no able to deal with guests .

Hi all,

I would just like to put this review out there because I have read a few comments here and I want it to be made clear about the level of ‘pet friendly’ this hotel is.

Although we had a great stay here and the staff were impeccable, I think it’s important that people are aware the owner has 3 large airdales who roam the property freely.

Anyone who owns a reactive or nervous dog should not visit this property.

We had an unfortunate encounter with these 3 dogs and our new puppy and just about escaped without any serious issues.
I am an avid supporter of dog friendly hotels and appreciate any property that tries to accommodate pet owners but it is important to be clear on the standards that are laid out for people visiting the property.

Not everyone has dogs that will be comfortable with large breeds approaching them so freely and if it is a pet friendly property I assume it is opens to all types of pets.

Apart from this we had a nice stay and would like to commend the general staff for every assist they gave us.

Hi Dallas, Not ideal without a car. You can get to Arklow via train or bus. But then about a €20 - 15 min taxi ride from there. Regards, Jeff
