Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI
The Abbey Court Hotel & Leisure Centre, often praised for its lively atmosphere due to ongoing upgrades and tasteful furnishings, provides a comfortable stay with spacious rooms. While opinions on value vary, many guests appreciate the reasonable pricing and included amenities, despite some unexpected costs. The service is generally commended for its friendliness, though there's room for improvement in consistency.
Amenities, particularly the large pool and electric car charging, are a hit, yet some areas await enhancement. Set in a convenient location near Nenagh, the hotel is celebrated for its immaculate cleanliness, although attention to the pool's condition has been noted.

Detailed Reviews
Just back from a two night stay, with my partner and kids. We booked two rooms as we were a family of 5 with an 18 year old a 4 year old and a 7 mth old baby, requested rooms to be close together and a cot in one of the rooms, both requests met. Hotel has a lovely country house type feel to it and only a few minutes walk from nenagh Town. Rooms were very clean with plenty of space, only observation on the rooms would be the showers could do with an upgrade, double bed in one of the rooms was a bit uncomfortable but nothing major to worry about.
Check in was quick and efficient, booked the pool for both days and this was handled excellently, pool temperature was a bit too cold but facilities were very clean and pool wasn't booked with too many people. Pool experience was enjoyed by whole family.
From the minute we checked in to the minute we checked out we saw staff in ppe gear constantly cleaning and disinfecting which brought great comfort.
Staff are exceptional, so friendly and welcoming, one lady who served us at breakfast stopped for a chat and told us where to find the best playground and where was good for a day out.
Dinner is a must here, we had dinner on both nights and it was delicious, never felt rushed or under pressure to eat and go and our 1 hour 45 mins was plenty of time to enjoy our meal and have a drink as the staff have the service down to a tee.
I would definitely stay here again, for the staff and service alone, it makes all the difference to a stay especially when travelling with kids. Great value on the 2 nights stay also.

My husband and our two daughters (aged 11 and 8) recently stayed for a weekend in the Abbey Court. From the second we booked the hotel staff were so efficient calling me a week in advance to ensure i got to book dinner and breakfast at times that suited as per Covid-19 guidelines. Swimming could also be booked up to 4 days before arrival which enabled our stay to be the best it could be!!
On arrival the staff were lovely and so helpful booking a table for drinks before dinner and making sure we had all we needed. The food was gorgeous and we all enjoyed all of our meals. The family room was huge, two large separate bedrooms, perfect for the girls to have their own fun and space.
Outside they have put up a fabulous canopy and really good heaters and sitting outside was so pleasant in the evening.
The swimming pool was a massive hit with the kids, its huge!! Also due to covid number restrictions it felt like we almost had the pool to ourselves and the spa pool for adults only allowed us to sneak away for a few minutes!!
Facilities aside it is the staff of this hotel that will have us coming back, nothing was too much trouble and the chats we had with every staff member we came across were very natural and hugely welcoming. The efficiency of the staff is second to none and the Abbey court is a very well oiled machine that I would highly recommend a visit to.

Loved this hotel ! Very warm welcome from very efficient staff at reception. Very clear as to what was included in our stay . Our room was spotless clean with a very suitable interconnecting bedroom for two toddlers . Tanya in the restaurant was absolutely wonderful, highly efficient , super friendly and informative. Our food was delicious on both nights , the curry , korma, chicken and the fish and chips were delicious! Highly recommend dining here . Kids were very well catered for here with a nice kids menu available or half portions on request . The hotel is in a fab location for lough Dergh , about ten km , Dromineer beautiful and surrounding area stunning with wonderful drives around the lough .
Swimming pool and facilities at the hotel are fabulous. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone travelling in the area . Thank you 🙏

On check in was assigned a room on the top floor near the rear of the hotel. Normally I'd be delighted with a room in a quiet part of the hotel, but on walking closer to the room the temperature got colder and colder. The room resembled more like a cheap hostel than hotel room and had no heating. When I asked to move rooms i was told there were none left but they would send the porter to fix the radiator. Porter arrived, couldn't fix the radiator but provided me with a small portable plug in heater. It was at this point that I considered cutting my losses, leaving and trying to find another hotel nearby. About an hour later, reception contacted me stating they had found a free room and I switched. The new room was warmer, bigger, dated but not as dated as the previous room with a small portable tv from the 1990's (massive pet hate of mine). In the middle of the night there was a lot of commotion out in the corridor which i found out the next morning was due to the room across the corridor from me flooding and water flowing out into the hallway!! In conclusion, although staff were somewhat helpful I definitely won't be returning.

The staff were friendly, but management in the food area were a bit stand offish. The place needs a good touch up, painting, a good clean, and a bit of love. It's very old fashioned. The massage I had was very nice though so points to the lady who did that!! The shower head in my room was very powerful that it was unpleasant to shower with and drenched the whole bathroom. The restaurant pub area needs a good dusting, fresher carpets and new seats as the leather was ripped. The place has great potential if it was just spruced up! Thanks for having us!

Visited on a Sunday afternoon for some lunch, Emma was our server and she was lovely, but the food was straight out of a Bain Marie/Hotbox. 3 of us got the chicken supreme about 2 minutes after ordering it, and while it was edible it was just about warm. And while a lot may not complain, it was too much food, I think all the food should be on one plate and not on the plate plus on 5-6 side dishes too, the tables are very small as it is so it means you’ve to piece together a jigsaw before you can start eating. A side salad was ordered as well and the leaves were in bits, complete lack of refinement. Small attention to detail needed.
It says that the desserts are homemade by the chefs as well, and while I didn’t order any dessert I did see a few come out and as someone who has worked in kitchens for a long time and works as a pastry chef I can tell the difference between homemade and bought in and I would be very surprised if they were made in house. Did I enjoy the food? It was okay at best, would I come back? Unlikely.

Visit the coffee dock at the hotel entrance almost every week since it opened. However, the last two occasions they were out of caramel syrup and the time before that they were out of large coffee cups (so staff member advised) but still proceeded to charge for large coffee. The food from the coffee dock is always pleasant although the sweet treats in the glass cabinet sometimes look rather tired. Staff are generally friendly. Running out of basic items for the proper functioning of the coffee dock is disappointing but possibly just teething issues that will hopefully be ironed out soon as would love to stay supporting local.

I was unable to make it to the hotel in time for the evening meal last orders. Not a problem - the very helpful Irene placed my telephone order with the kitchen for dinner & dessert, and kept the food warm (and cold 😉) as required until I arrived. They couldn't have been more helpful, TBH. The hotel, itseld, is a particuraly beautiful building. There's a magnificent staircase to greet you after checking in. Tasteful decor thoroughout, My room was massive, enormous, bigger than I needed but I'm certainly not going to complain about that!. No problem checking out - a full VAT invoice was immediately emailed to my company with the correct PO Number stated, it in itself a rarity these days... All in all, I'd highly recommend this property. It's an unequivocal 5* from me.

Two night stay at the Abbey Court Hotel in Nenagh.
On arrival we were happy with our room, it’s probably an older hotel but extremely clean, everything was spot on.
Dinner was included with our package and the food really good, sometimes with these food inclusion deals it can be a little iffy what’s on offer but myself and my two children were really happy and portion size was really ample enough to share with my children. Service was excellent, water refills and everything ok’s aplenty. Milk and cookies for the kids delivered at the dot of time we requested.
The second night of our stay unfortunately didn’t go as well. I’d just like to start by saying I don’t for one second blame the floor staff. We were more than delighted with the service for the majority of our stay throughout the hotel, staff are extremely helpful and friendly but my goodness I felt sorry for them at dinner on our last night. First night of indoor dining reopening and not enough staff on hand to serve dinner. I mean I blame management for their lack of planning, very badly organised, no refills or everything ok this night.
An hour and a half we waited for our main course and it only did after an enquiry as to how much longer it would be. That’s a long hour and a half with two very hungry special needs children. Indoors was extremely noisy and busy so we sat outside on the chilly rainy evening. When food arrived it was delicious! I had a steak and it was perfectly cooked. I highly recommend the food in the evening.
I requested my dessert to our room that evening as it was getting very late for kids and we finally received it with the milk and cookies after 10pm delivered by a very stressed looking manager, no apology, very late for children.
The breakfast could do with improvement, I reckon it’s a different chef, it was just ok.
We used the pool on both mornings and really enjoyed it, again extremely clean and friendly staff.
To conclude, I would have given 5* had it not been for the second night dinner fiasco, it was disappointing also in that I had to pay the €8 supplement for my steak while also having already paid for my husbands stay who couldn’t come last minute so we paid for 4 meals and got 3 + an €8 supplement for steak.
Overall I would recommend this hotel and would use again in future.

First time visit to this hotel with our family for a one night stay.
Leisure centre was nice, huge pool and jacuzzi.
Hotel bar is under refurbishment, so you can have a drink in the ballroom. The atmosphere in there was very strange as it was full of lathe round tables set for an event and then a few tables in a row for the bar customers. It’s only for a short time so I’m sure the refurbished bar will be worth the wait.
Dinner in main dining room was v good. We were on a dinner B&B package and the menu was good. Food was excellent for the most part. Some young staff need further training on clearing tables in a timely manner. Same could apply to the bar staff. Not their fault, they need a good manager to train them.
The dining manager Rebecca was very good and helpful. Two issues with the meal she apologised for and didn’t charge for the children’s meals. She was very good.
Big shout out also to Orlaith, a very helpful young waitress who knew her role very well.
The big complaint we have was that the pillows in the bedroom were terribly large, hard and most uncomfortable.
We all had to sleep without them. My daughter made a makeshift one with a towel. If we return again, we will def make sure we have access to softer pillows.
Breakfast in the morning was really excellent. Delicious brown bread and granola, made in house. The orange juice was freshly squeezed and was delicious. Hot foot was made to order and the menu was great.
Overall, a very good value for money stay. We will be back to see the new bar.

I don't know as we stayed in the hotel best to ask the hotel itself.. Enjoy your break. :)
Sorry I can't answer that question as i didn't stay in one.
They do. You make arrangements with the hotel
It's true as with most pubs in Ireland. I believe they are looking at changing the law next year.
Hi Helen here from Great National Abbey Court Hotel, Lodges & Trinity Leisure Centre. Each 5 bed house has three ensuite bedrooms and a bathroom both downstairs and upstairs. Let me know if I can be of any further help.
