My wife & I opted for a short midweek stay & we were not disappointed. We were checked in by a very cheerful & friendly receptionist. Our room was warm, spacious & had sea views. On the night we arrived, we decided to have an evening meal which was part of our deal. The food was great, the service was great & the wine was great. We repaired to the bar afterwards for after dinner drinks & pleasant entertainment provided by a solo artist. Our only disappointment during our stay was that our room was not serviced. However the receptionist did her best to rectify the situation by providing us with towels as soon as the matter was drawn to her attention. We would be happy to return & we recommend the place to anybody wishing to stay in Sligo.

Value for money, the large room was only 70 euro.
There was entertainment on which was pretty good
Rooms are basic you get what you pay for, but they were clean. Didn't have breakfast and had dinner in Austies so can't comment on the food.
They had a few fireplaces burning at night which added to the coziness.
The spa floor could do with a redecoration, there are these horrible shiny gold curtains which really look tacky and they painted gold paint all over the walls, looks awful. They should just re-wallpaper it. The hotel is quite old and getting on.
Was a good fun night and the entertainment was great (and free)

Dear hungry-sumo, Thank you for taking time to post your review and share your experience. Thank you for your lovely comments regarding staff and our entertainment. We are assuming you stayed in one of our Standard rooms which is due for refurb in January 19 which will bring all our rooms up to Deluxe standard as we await our 4 Star accreditation in the New Year. We can appreciate that the Roman style entrance with Gold Leaf is not to everybody's taste but is in keeping with the theme of our Eros Spa. The Yeats Country Hotel is a period property and full of old world charm including the cozy wood burning fireplaces. It is not a new build and has kept in character with its Edwardian history. We are delighted you had a nice stay and look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Kindest Regards,

We arrived in Yeats Country Hotel and the first thing you would notice would be the friendly and warm welcome you receive from the staff at reception. It doesn't stop there, you get to your room and the room is very clean and warm. The food in the hotel is very good and reasonable as well as the drink. Really had a good time and 100% will be back.. can't emphasise how good the the staff are.. thank you all.

Mixed experiences in this hotel; it has a commanding location, right at the tip of Rosses Point, and adjacent to the golf club.
First encounter with reception - wholly negative. No queue, it must be said - both receptionists were chatting to each other as I approached the desk; I was barely acknowledged - nevertheless, was checked in quickly. It was evident that I was a solo traveller; with two bags, yet I was not offered assistance with my bags. This really became an issue as I realised that there was no lift service to my part of the hotel( there is, in fact, a lift elsewhere, which seems to service the spa only).

I'm the older generation and obviously so, so I really struggled upstairs with those bags. The room was very nice - although I had heard that the hotel was a bit run down, my room had the appearance of having been renovated in the previous 12 months. However, other parts of the hotel showed evidence of needing some TLC; stairs, landings and other slightly less public areas.

I went downstairs to avail of the leisure centre - again approached reception for times - there was no information brochure in - and was practically bellowed at by one - "the times are clearly displayed here!" pointing to a card on top of the desk. I mentioned that this information was not available in the room...." well, it should be " was the response.
Down to the pool to find there was a children's swimming lesson under way and that only one lane of the pool was available for other swimmers, and it was packed. Went back to reception and told them - both ladies seemed surprised, but said nothing.

I went back an hour later for a swim - different story. The person on the desk in the leisure centre was helpful and charming. on entering the ladies changing room, the most appalling smell of sewage hit me in the nostrils.
The leisure centre is really nice; large jacuzzi, sauna, and oh joy, steps down into the pool! There is also a steam room but it wasn't working, in fact the floor of it was covered with what looked like yoga mats, and nowhere did I see a sign saying that it was out of order.

Dinner beckoned - so I went for the day's special in the Bar - a Chicken Curry. Now, curry is open to thousands of interpretations - this arrived pretty quickly, and was edible and plentiful - but I'm afraid that some sort of packet mix had been used to make the sauce, and the rice was boil in the bag rice.. In this day and age, rice cookers are so inexpensive, so efficient, and so good at cooking perfect fluffy rice that there is no excuse for every caterer not to have one.

On returning to my room later that night, I found that my end of the corridor had no ceiling light working, so I was fumbling with my room key in almost total darkness.

Breakfast on both days was very good, plenty of everything, and staff seemed to cope well, but there was no evidence of anyone being in charge. there is a clear sign as you enter the room, saying " please wait here to be seated". No-one came up to me. Eventually I asked a passing waitress if there was any particular table I should go to. Her answer still rings in my ear " sure work away there, sit anywhere you like, it doesn't matter"!

On three occasions over the weekend I approached the reception desk about the lack in an information brochure in the room - there was, indeed, a folder, but it was filled with dozens of copies of How to Escape if there is a Fire!

On checkout, there was a different lady on reception, with a totally different attitude, asking me if I enjoyed my stay. I went into the things which I wasn't happy with and she offered to call a manager. I didn't have time to wait unfortunately, but she took my phone number and said she would ask him to call me later.

No phone call was received at all, though almost a month has passed.

Would I stay again? Possibly, as it was convenient to the location of a seminar I was attending for the weekend - and I got it a a reduced price. It is probably a goldmine, as it has very little competition in the area, and there is a beautiful area off the main lobby with an open fire that was constantly buzzing. What a pity that my experience was negative - I travel a lot and have rarely encountered the lackadaisical approach that met me on first arriving. The reception desk is where the tone is set for the rest of your stay.
