Gleeson’s Roscommon is that most authentic of hospitality establishments – a fine historic building lovingly restored and maintained. It’s a family business, established by Eamonn and Mary Gleeson and now managed by their daughter Cáit. It is run with guests in mind and is beautifully appointed yet comfortable and welcoming to all. At Gleeson’s the ‘fáilte’ is genuine. The 150 year old townhouse comprises 19 bedrooms, a café, Manse Restaurant, function room and conference room. Gleeson’s also offer an outside catering service. Head Chef Kieran Brennan has created exceptional menus using the best of local produce including organic lamb from Gleeson’s own family farm, quality beef from local butcher Tommy Madden, free range chicken from Ray Gannon, organic Gannon’s Eggs, organic salad leaves from Mill House Farm and award-winning puddings from Kelly’s Butchers Newport. The herbs are fresh from the garden, grown by Mary Gleeson. The extensive wine list features a variety of organic and exclusive wines available to us from smaller artisan vineyards. The newly refurbished Manse Restaurant features original paintings from local artist Rita Oates including a specially commissioned, dramatic large artwork. The new Whiskey Bar is a wonderful way to learn about the fascinating world of whiskey through tastings and tips.

Visited Gleeson’s tonight for dinner and from start to finish it was superb. We’re staying in Roscommon for a few days and our Airbnb host suggested Gleeson’s for a bite to eat as we have our dog with us, so we needed somewhere with outdoor seating. The staff were so warm and welcoming, we chatted like old friends. They even asked us if we’d like to sit inside to eat as it was a little chilly outside. We were delighted and sat in the reception area and they even offered us a bowl of water for the dog. We were made to feel so comfortable. The food was delicious, service outstanding, the place is beautiful and spotlessly clean. Thank you for making us feel so welcome. We’ll be back!

I visited Gleesons today with three friends for lunch.Lovely restaurant nice and cosy and warm.Service was excellent and the food was lovely and very good value. The only downside was the bathroom could do with an upgrade. No paper towels available and the hand dryer very slow. There was a roller towel there but I would never use that as I think they are very unhygienic.
Overall I would definitely recommend Gleesons. It is a lovely restaurant with home cooked food at a reasonable price.

Had a lovely stay here. This is a pet friendly hotel .We had a small dog with us and of course the dog is not allowed in the resturant or cafe but you can sit outside or in the foyer and the staff will serve you there. The food was delicious especially the deserts. The bread and butter pudding was amazing. The staff members that were serving us were very friendly and attentive. However the cleaning staff were not so diligent .There was no toilet roll the toilet bins were not emptied and the cups that we used for tea were not washed . I have to say that the receptionist Gillian is a credit to you From the moment we entered  She couldnt do enough for us . She was always smiling and the minute you came down for breakfast you would get a good morning from her .She solved the problem we had immediately.

My wife and I dined here on Sunday evening, February 13th. I ordered a salad with Fivemilestown Goat's Cheese, Toasted Walnuts, Red Onion Marmalade, Cranberries, Organic Leaves, Salsa, Balsamic Glaze & a Drizzle of Pesto. I also ordered soup.
The soup arrived and I ate it. The salad arrived and I was impressed with the amount of greenery in it. There was a hurling match on the television and we were enjoying that. I ate my sald but I noticed a distinct blandness about it. There were no walnuts, roasted or otherwise. No cranberries, no Salsa, no Drizzle of Pesto. It consisted of leaves, a substantial amount of leaves, a little onion, some sliced tomato and the Goat's Cheese. When the server arrived to take our order for dessert I remarked on the absences to her. I ordered a coffee and carrot cake. The server took my order but made no remark in response to my complaint. When I asked for the bill she remarked that she was not charging me for the coffee and cake on account of the salad. I declined to accept and I insisted on paying for the entire meal. I asked her what had happened with the salad but she was unwilling to answer my question. We were discussing the matter when I was approached by another diner, a younger man who addressed me aggressively. I responded that I was making a legitimate complaint and that he should mind his own business. He then told me, I felt threateningly, to 'leave the girl alone'. At no point did I behave aggressively or raise my voice to the girl. The man left and the girl then began to raise the level of tension, waving her arms about and demanding in a loud voice 'Is this really necessary?' As I felt that this was escalating and that there was nothing to be gained, I left. I contacted the restaurant that evening and I got an automated response. telling me that I would be contacted shortly. It contained an email address but I was unable to make contact using it. I phoned on Tuesday 15th February and I spoke to a lady who introduced herself as Mary. I outlined my experience and she listened, expressed regret at my experience but then asked me what I expected her to do about it. I felt that I was once again getting put on the back foot as if I was the cause of the problem and not the restaurant staff. I asked Mary if I would hear from them and she was evasive. She eventually took my email address and said that I would be contacted. I believe that if I was a younger person and local, as distinct from passing trade I would have been treated with more respect.

Response from Eamonn Gleeson, Owner at Gleesons Restaurant & Rooms
Responded 22 Feb 2022
Dear Tomás, Gleesons is a family business and we take every comment and review very seriously. We’ve spent some time investigating the assertions in your review and our conclusions are very different to yours. Our long-standing manageress was on duty that night and we have interviewed her and your server in depth. We have also spoken to the other diner, the young man you mention who intervened. Their accounts agree with each other and disagree with yours. Our main market for more than 30 years has been the older age groups – Active Age Groups, OAPS etc. We put a lot of effort into ensuring their stays or dining experiences reach a very high standard and repeated feedback confirms that we succeed. We totally refute your assertion that it is an ageist situation. We have several coachloads of Active Age guests dining here this week and they received our customary welcome. We are sorry that you didn’t enjoy your salad, though you did finish it. We always try to compensate for any dissatisfaction and that is why you were offered a complimentary course. However we must take issue with your manner and aggression in issuing your complaint. The other diner, a regular customer, said that no human being should be treated the way you spoke to our manageress. We agree with him and respectfully wish you and your wife health and happiness but suggest that you dine elsewhere in future. Yours regretfully, Eamonn Gleeson

We booked two superior rooms at Gleeson’s on Wednesday 21 December. We were staying in Roscommon to attend a family funeral.
Words cannot describe the warmth and care that we received from Eamon, Mary and Cait.
The Hotel is beautifully decorated, homely, inviting and cosy. On a bleak winters night, the fire was blazing in the foyer, where we sat initially. Many family members joined us for a drink in the early evening. Gleeson’s is centrally located and is walking distance from everywhere in the town. (There is free parking for Hotel guests at the rear of the building)
We enjoyed a delicious dinner afterwards that was very fairly priced.
We were travelling with a baby, so a travel cot etc was supplied.
Our bedroom was spotlessly clean with crisp linen and tea/coffee making facilities. We slept peacefully.
Breakfast the following morning was a real treat. Cooked to order with the best of Irish ingredients.
Finally, I must mention the staff, who were sincere and caring throughout our stay.
We wish the Gleeson’s continued success at The Square, Roscommon.
Thank you.
Mary

I booked for a group staying in a mixture of twin & single rooms plus an evening meal for 16 people. Gleeson’s were fantastic, very accommodating when unfort some people pulled out of the trip at the last minute due to illness. The staff at Gleeson’s are very friendly. Our evening meal in the restaurant was fantastic & very good value for a 3 course meal. We had to be rolled out of the restaurant we were so full 😂
Location is brilliant, it’s in the town centre with everything a few minutes away.

This is a fabulous place from every point of view, location, price, food and service. Stayed here with friends for one night recently and to say we were pleasantly surprised is an understatment. The room was big, clean and airy. The staff couldn't do enough for us. The food was great and fantastic value. Breakfast was made to order - which is so much nicer than the luke warm buffet you get at some other hotels. The hotel is located right in the centre of town and there are plenty of shop, bars and restaurants. Can't wait to go back. Keep up the good work Glesssons.

My family and I booked Gleeson's newly refurbished Restaurant last night for our traditional Christmas evening meal out. I have to say from the time we arrived, having been warmly greeted by Siobhan at Reception, to finishing our meal, we had one of the most enjoyable nights out in many years. The renowned Gleeson hospitality and service, coupled with the warm ambience of the place was second to none. I ordered their Ribeye Steak with pepper sauce, accompanied by 2 glasses of their House Red Merlot wine, both were exquisite. Our table hostess Pauline could not have been more welcoming and warm in looking after all our needs. Even though the restaurant was very busy at the time, Mary Gleeson took time out to chat with us and see that we were thoroughly enjoying ourselves. The restrooms were spotlessly clean and all Covid-19 Protocols & Procedures were clearly evident and in place. Thank you Cait, Mary and Eamonn Gleeson, we look forward to seeing you all again early in the New Year.
