We’ve stayed in the Abbey a number of times over the years. Our kids love it especially the pool. It’s always held a special place for us. We recommended it to our friends in the past however this years stay was unfortunately not like we had remembered. The food was really poor in the bar and the service was also poor. We had to return a meal which is not something we do. We had to go to the bar as our drinks took so long and they were sitting there on the bar going flat. We got a replacement meal which was just ok. Breakfast was also disappointing just the minimum on offer. A big disappointment for us really. we probably would stay again as the kids love it and we have family in the area but we would not eat there again. The price of the food given the quality was so expensive with a burger over 20 euro. Sorry to be posting this.

Lovely od world hotel. Friendly staff and homely atmosphere. Arrived Oct 30th ,check in was efficient, and the reception manager gave us clear directions and information about the hotel facilities and breakfast set up. Room was a large double with a king-size bed. Very cosy. We had a drink in the bar which was expensive, eur 7.60 for a glass of wine. We decided to explore the nearby town to eat. Bed was very comfy, slept very well. Breakfast next morning was usual buffet, self service. There were no mushrooms or tomatoes on offer as part of hot buffet, which was my only gripe. Coffee was good. We didn't use the leisure facilities as we were on a time limit. Friendly staff and spotless clean facilities.

Beautiful grounds in a ideal location with a tranquil vide. Carmen at front of house is just so helpful and attentive but sadly the constant banging due to work been done made our first day very stressful. Booked in and banging went on till well into evening time. Not fair on us as a family or for anyone whom had paid to stay. Informed the girl at reception about the phone in our room not in working order nothing done about this also. Dinner in hotel on our first night, menu very small not a-lot of choice . Food took a long time but worth the wait, quality and taste was amazing portions were very good. Dessert is not worth the price as portion is very very small. Staff in bar area and waitresses so friendly and attentive. Got a latte but again Luke warm at a price of €4. Breakfast area is so lovely but run so badly chef in kitchen not organized at all scrambled egg is dreadful and fried eggs way over done. No menu letting you know of options ie. omelette/ beans/tomatoes/mushrooms /pancakes

Considered a 4 star hotel but I would give it at 3-3.5 at best the rooms are dated and could use a refresh. The pool is a public pool And the hotel is attached to it so not very relaxing when swim classes are happening

Recently stayed at the Abbey Hotel having stayed there numerous times before. Yet again great value for money with zero complaints, trouble free check in/out, room of a very high standard, noticed the breakfast standard had risen from the previous visit, possibly a different chef, Christina was very friendly and helpful on 2 of the 3 mornings we were there, very tasty dinners in the bar on 2 of the 3 evenings during our stay and delighted to see Jared still working there, such a friendly young man and always a smile on his face. On the night we went out for dinner, due to heavy rain we were even given the loan of an umbrella from Reception. All in all a very relaxing stay and we shall definitely be returning some time in the future. Keep up the good work, Dave and Sarahjane

Attended for a family event in 2022. Called the hotel several times in advance of the event to confirm numbers. The week of the event I called again on 2 if not 3 occasions confirming final numbers. On the day we got there I met by another member of the party who advised me that when they arrived (a few minutes earlier) there was no booking in my name. When I arrived I was told we have no booking under your name. I explained that this had to be wrong and was able to show evidence of having called the hotel on my phone earlier in the week. Then the story changed to, oh we were trying to call you all week, but we had the wrong number for you. It was clear they hadn't a clue what was going on. No one seemed to be in charge. It was humiliating to see other people being seated and you're standing there with a group of people you invited to this family event. The meal was served and while the food was okay, the service was mediocre. No one asked if everything was okay, no one asked if we would like to see the wine menu, if we would like water etc. The staff did not stay in the dining room, so you could not get their attention. Finally when the meal was complete, I wanted to settle the bill. I had to go to the desk several times, before I could get anyone's attention. People walked past me as I stood at the desk waiting to pay, even after the shocking reception we had received. I waited about 10 minutes to see a member of staff. When the bill was received, the only thing on the receipt were 3 digits. Nothing else. I asked what that was about. I was met with a blank expression and said I would like to see an itemised bill. It transpired that I had been charged €10 extra per adult than what was I was initially told. The lady said she would correct the bill. But the event was such a disappointment by now. I just wanted to leave, but couldn't leave until I paid. At this stage I asked to speak with a manager since no manager had come near us the entire time we were there. I was told 'no manger available' I asked to receive a phone call the following Monday and I was told I would receive one. When no call had been received by Wednesday , I called the hotel myself. Only to hear, oh did you not get a phone call. Finally Thursday evening I received a call. The manager did apologise and advised that a voucher for Sunday lunch would be provided for 2 adults. I explained that we were there celebrating a Childs event. I was told under no circumstances could the children be added to the voucher. Then a statement was made, do I have any idea how much the voucher for Sunday lunch was worth. The tone was terrible, which I found most ironic, given the service the previous weekend. The voucher was given in a very begrudging manner and I was told it would be in the hotel if I wanted to collect it. I asked that it be posted out to me. The voucher was amended to include a 'main course only' for the children. When we finally did get to use the voucher in 2023 and the children ate their main course. I proceeded to pay, only to be given a bill for another table. I pointed this out and when I was given the bill for my table, I was overcharged. It was unbelievable how the poor service could continue. I pointed out that I'd been overcharged for the desserts for the children, only to be told, you had the wrong menu. Again as if it was something I did. The arrogance is mind boggling. Subsequently I wrote to the hotel and they did not have the courtesy to reply to my letter. All in all a very very disappointing experience. The fact that the booking process was so inept on the day was one thing, but the response was just as poor.

The location was good and it did have a big car park. Hotel was nice. The room was really big and had three beds. Nice view to the ruins close by. It had that old charm but bathroom need some update. Cleaning was very good. Breakfast was good and service was good also in restaurants. The receptionists were distant and not so friendly. It would be nice if they stand when meeting customers.

We stayed for one night and were totally underwhelmed. As a regular booker on Bookings.com we got a very good deal for a one night stay. It was for a Double room with a landscape view and large double bed 60 inches. We were given room 29 which was horrible. I agreed to pay €30 for an upgrade to an executive room. This had a large double bed and some view. I returned to reception and showed the receptionist my booking email and she refunded the upgrade fee. I don't know how the system works when the hotel sells rooms to a second seller but the contract should be honoured. On a lighter note we enjoyed our stay and the air conditioning was really appreciated in the beautiful weather.

What a let down. We were expecting a 4*hotel.. Entrance looks lovely but thats were it ends. We booked a double room and we got a room with 2 single beds. Yes it was clean but the furniture i have given away better 2 a charity shop. Soo dissapointed. Not worth the money. The menu was very basic as was the food. we ate there 2 nights but couldnt face it on the 3rd night so we ate out. They say you get what you pay for but the abbey is not worth the money. Most of staff were nice but no one made us feel like we were valued. Wouldn't recomend sorry
