Spent the weekend here in july there was a delay with getting dinner of 50 minutes but issue was addressed so we decided to give the hotel another try for bank holiday weekend... checked into our room 67 which was very warm as we knew there was air con we attempted to turn it on but nothing happened.. there was meant to be a fridge ..none there.. so when porter came with a tiny miserable excuse for a fridge and told us the air con was broken for a while.. the room was too hot to remain in so were were moved to room 84 air con worked so we were happy with that but we had to downgrade from our executive room to a family room.. as we had pool and dinner booked we left the room.. that night we went to bed to discover there was the most uncomfortable mattress on the bed ... my husband ended up sleeping on folded quilts on the floor.. next morning we went to reception to see a manager the receptionist was very apologetic and said she would get one for us... we finally met Tom Grealey Jr and before we could explain to him our issue he just said he "hadnt time" quite rudely and attempted to just walk away... eventually he agreed to come to room and check the mattress.. he wouldn't agree that their could be anything with the mattress and was very sharp and uninterested in anything we could say.. just kept raising his voice.. he then left and told us hotel was busy so there was probably nothing he could do but would get back to us... he did after 20 minutes and told us they were trying to sort a room and would ring back in 15mins... we rang reception after an hour to the nice receptionist and she told us they would give us a different room 71... 3 moves in 24 hours is a joke. we were given €100 refund with a note signed from reception staff not the manager who never once attempted to apologise for the upheaval. We cannot fault the lovely receptionists., lesley in reservations, the dining staff, especially michelle, and the bar manager mike.. you are all very professional in your jobs and it was a pleasure to deal with you.. i will not be returning here again when the senior management don't care about their guests.

Brilliant, attentive staff. Excellent food. We slept like logs. Rooms very well appointed but the stand out hours were spent in the pool. Lifeguards there constantly. Lessons available if needed. The kids loved it. Reception advised us on where to visit nearby so we went to Athlone Castle and Rathcloughan Visitor Centre although there's no reason to leave the hotel. This is an ideal stay for quality time with the family. A hidden gem so don't tell everyone. Thanks to Edwina, Lesley, Ava, Clara, Caolan and everyone at The Abbey! Batteries all on 100%

It’s been a few years since we stayed here and just checking back on my own review before I should have remembered why we hadn’t been back sooner. We were in Roscommon at a match so we decided to make a night of it . Check in was very smooth and the young girl was very friendly and polite. The rooms were a big let down considering we are in the middle of a pandemic. The dusty on the headboard was horrible, I could have wrote my name on it . I would except cleaning would include this area as it is a area that would be touched by people , there was a stain on the blanket, I really feel duvets are the way to go , as the blankets obviously are not being changed . The rooms really need updating as they are so tired looking and the bathrooms were very grubby , they need a good deep clean. Thankfully it was only the one night we were staying.... On a plus our dining experience was great , lovely helpful staff fab food I think they deserve great credit for their job well done 👏🏼 I would love to come back but only if the rooms were upgraded and clean because it is lovely place with lovely grounds, just the bedrooms letting it down .

I've stayed in several 5 star hotels in Ireland and they could learn something from this hotel about genuine hospitality and natural conversation, it's a family run hotel and all the better for it. The staff are genuinely interested in you having a great time. The hotel is full of character, a mix of styles and periods, and I think it works. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. Best hotel pint of Guinness I've ever had. For the money, it's hard to beat. Well done all!

Just back from a 2 night stay. We booked 1 family room to sleep 4 and a double room for the grand parents. On arrival we were told that the double room was not booked which didn't cause much hassle but delayed checking in as the staff worked around this issue. The bedrooms were big and the beds themselves were clean and had a fresh feel and smell to them. The rooms themselves were a little dusty and a lot of scuff marks on the walls and skirtings. Glass on the tops of bedside lockers and desk table still had food markes from previous guests. The hotel itself badly needs a lick of paint and a lot more TLC throughout. The old style to the hotel is a nice feature but in parts it looks like some things (the carpets, curtains, bedroom doors) are there from day one. It's just lacking a fresh feel to it. The staff in this hotel are an absolute credit to the hotel. So polite, friendly, attentive, accomodating, helpful, well mannered and just brilliant all round. Monday night we had a gentleman sort us out for a few drinks and small bite to eat and he was wonderful and on Tuesday again we had another gentleman seat us for our included dinner package and just couldn't do enough for us. The boys and girls waiting the tables also were fantastic nothing we asked for or asked about was a problem to them all done with big smiles on their faces. The food was absolutely gorgeous not one complaint or issue from any of us in the group of 6. The breakfast was also fantastic with lots to choose from (hot&cold) food. Would I go back to the hotel again, probably not in its current condition but if that was to change then yes it would be a regular place for myself and family to visit.

Dear Ian Many thanks for your feedback on your recent stay with us at the Abbey. Your observations on the cleanliness have indeed been noted and passed to our accomodation manager. You will be happy to hear that we have plans in store for a refurbishment of our bedrooms and interiors for later this year. Had we not been hit by Covid this project would be well underway by now. Your kind words about our staff have also been passed on at our heads of department meeting. It is positive feedback like this that instill confidence in our team. We very much appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts and hopefully we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back to the Abbey again in the vey near future.
