I recently visited the Shirley Arms in Carrickmacross for lunch, in the bar with a group of friends. The food was good and arrived fairly quickly but to say I am disappointed with a particular member of staffs manners is an understatement. One part of our order did not arrive so when I stopped a staff member to ask for a side that was missing to be delivered to the table , she responded with a dirty look towards my friends and I. This to me was very unprofessional and just plain rude. As well as that we had been at our table for roughly 30 minutes and some of us were still eating but the same member of staff approached and asked if we were done with the table yet. This caused us to feel pressured to leave and to eat our food quicker. I would also like to mention that there were several other groups of people who had been there for much longer than us but nothing was being said to them. I am aware that there is a time limit on your stay in a restaurant because of covid restrictions but we still had an hour of our designated dining time left (90 minutes). The same member of staff then began to start clearing away empty dishes but she also cleared away a side portion of chips that were still being eaten. I think it would a lot more professional and polite to ask before removing stuff from our table. Although the food was nice and most of the staff were well mannered and polite, I rated it one star because of this particular member of staff that in my opinion should not have a job dealing with the public as she clearly lacks basic manners and social skills. This has put me off the Shirley Arms and I will not be in a rush to visit again!

Myself and my wife stayed here on Friday night it was our wedding anniversary. Its not our first time to visit the Shirley Arms we have stayed there several times already but it was our first visit this year. The staff are their usual brilliant self... From Clare at reception to the restaurant manager Ciara and Caroline who looked after us at breakfast, each one of them are so friendly and professional they are a credit to the hotel and the hospitality industry. Our room was warm comfortable and quiet. The dinner in the restaurant was absolutely beautiful, we both really enjoyed it. I would highly recommend the duck with spinach and a potato rosti. My wife had cod and samphire which she thoroughly enjoyed. I had mentioned when I booked the room it was our wedding anniversary and written on the desert plate in chocolate was Happy Anniversary which was a lovely touch. After a good night's sleep we had a beautiful breakfast before we headed back home and Caroline who looked after us was so friendly and chatty we felt we knew her years. That's the one thing that makes this hotel stand out from a lot of others we have stayed in and we have stayed in many, they really do appreciate you staying with them and never treat you as just a visitor. You are a guest from the minute you arrive there and are looked after like you would look after any guest to your home. We will be back again to stay at this gem of a hotel shortly hopefully. Bill and Miriam

We stayed here for one night as we were visiting relatives in the area. Everything was brilliant from check in to check out. The lovely lady on reception was so welcoming and helpful. The room was very spacious and had wooden floors which was a nice change from carpeted rooms. It was bright and comfortable. Dinner was lovely and the portions were generous. Breakfast was another great experience. The lady serving could not do enough and the food was fantastic. Will definitely recommend this hotel to others and will be back again.
