A magnificent 80 acre estate, comprising a luxurious 18th century Manor House, adjacent courtyard of beautifully appointed Cottage Suites, and lower courtyard where award winning Brabazon Restaurant, the more casual Cellar Restaurant and The Tea Gardens are located. Understated elegance, relaxed atmosphere, just some of the adjectives used to describe our beautiful property. Located in Co. Meath, the country estate is only 40 minutes from Dublin and just over an hour from Belfast. A true oasis of tranquillity and beauty, Tankardstown House has been superbly restored throughout and offers you, your family and friends a unique opportunity to experience hospitality in a beautiful privately owned home. The country estate offers an idyllic setting for outdoor activity and adventure. It's the perfect place to discover the thrill of exploring the countryside on bicycle or foot. Tankardstown House is situated just 15 minutes from the World Heritage site of Newgrange, the Battle of the Boyne Site and Slane Castle, renowned for its own History & Whiskey Tours. For Golfers, the nearby parkland course of Headfort or the links at Baltray, will challenge any level of golfer. Alternatively, you might prefer to enjoy a spa treatment at the 'Hide-Out' to end an activity packed day, relax in the outdoor hot tub or unwind with a book in one of our many beautiful rooms. Other activities include hot air balloon rides, clay pigeon shooting and boating.

All the staff were extremely hospitable and gave excellent service, which we noticed right from the start when booking the reservation. Special mention should be given to Roisin. Brabazon restaurant has character and the food is outstanding with an excellent wine list. Great service too. Breakfast in The Cellar was quick, plentiful and delicious. Both dining locations had plenty of space, good social distancing, making it feel like normal and all the staff were wearing protective face visors. Full of character in the main house with open fires and many comfortable lounges to relax in and beautiful grounds. Unfortunately this is where the great things end and I turn to our experience in cottage 8. Little character in the downstairs area and the seats are very tired, worn and uncomfortable. Not a pleasant place to sit. There were no instructions on how to use the coffee machine and a lot of carpet stains. The shower is very awkward- why the head was fitted in the corner rather than in the middle, making it very difficult to stand comfortably under the shower head, is beyond me. Cleanliness was also a concern in both bathrooms. The bath needs replacing- it's old with cracks and dirt. The electric velux blinds don't work. I reported this, to be told, use a lot of force to manually close them, which we did. This was a noisy and very difficult operation. It would have been too stiff for some people . The blinds need urgent attention. WiFi was intermittent in the cottage. These issues impacted on our stay. The main house and the gardens are lovely but the cottage issues let the whole experience down and question if the cost could be justified. We would return but as a result of our cottage experience would definitely consider staying in the main house.

Dear TheKingsPeace, Thank you for your review and feedback on your recent stay at Tankardstown. I am very pleased you had an enjoyable stay with us, experiencing excellent hospitality and cuisine. I am sorry to hear the decor and character of cottage 8 didn't meet your personal preference. I assure you all our accommodation, and indeed every area of Tankardstown, is cleaned thoroughly and effectively. I have investigated the bathroom and there are no signs of 'dirt' whatsoever. I appreciate and apologise for your struggle with the blinds, and I can affirm this is an issue that is being addressed. I do hope these small grievances were outweighed by all the positives you mentioned from your stay. We would love to welcome you back again soon. Kind Regards, Tadhg Carolan

Some great things and some really bad things. Stayed in cottage 8 with our dog, which is a great option. The cottage itself is lovely, nice grounds, lovely exterior, loads of space, comfortable bed. The worst thing is the shower. Not only is it a bad, pretty cheap electric shower that's very noisy, the shower head is so full of limescale you can hardly get wet. Staff must know this, given it would be used to clean the bathroom after each stay but they've decided to charge customers regardless. Not expected, given the rate you pay to stay here. Other areas need improvement: - The bathroom in general needs a refurb. There are mould blackened corners and damage throughout. - Blinds in the bedroom don't work at all and you have to force them closed, they're stiff and crazy loud when closing them given they're meant to be electric - told they're being replaced the day after our stay but no mention of it on arrival. - Coffee machine simply chews up the pods then bursts with steam when opened - WiFi doesn't exist in the cottage at all and there is no data signal from mobile networks. Nowadays this doesn't meet expectations. WiFi in the main building is very good but we rented a cottage to use it, so not having what is considered a basic feature in our accomodation is poor, especially knowing no mobile signal. - Sofas and chairs are worn out, need refurb or replace - Radiator controls on some but not all radiators so we had to turn off the heating altogether All the great things are outside cottage 8: - Brabazon restaurant is outstanding. Amazing food and great staff. The layout of the restaurant, all socially distanced etc, feels just like normal. Very nice setting too - Breakfast was super tasty and quick. Plenty of space. Could do with a little more heat in the dining space on the day we were there but didn't spoil the food - The grounds are very nice. The walled garden is right next to the cottages and great to take a cuppa out and sit in the morning. Can walk around the estate with the dog, super quiet too - Main house is nice. Only sat for a short while but it's pleasant. I wouldn't return unless the above are fixed. The rate is significantly too high when the standard is dragged down by those issues all of which can be fixed and should've been fixed or acknowledged. The cottage has a second room, it's locked for us because we booked for two people I guess. There is an en suite I believe but no idea if the shower in there is any better.

Dear KSBear82, Thank you for your feedback on your recent stay at Tankardstown. I am disappointed to hear you had some grievances during your stay, these are not the sort of comments we are accustomed to. I can assure you we take this sort of feedback very seriously and I have investigated these statements made. The majority of such are absent, to my relief, with others such as the weak Wi-Fi signal as a result of our secluded country location, being addressed in an effort to improve our overall product and service we provide future guests. I am very pleased you enjoyed each dining experience at Tankardstown, as well as the Main House and gardens. Thank you again for your feedback and for choosing to stay with us. Kind regards, Tadhg Carolan

When we got to the reception the receptionist was really lovely and we were offered two glasses of bubbly and brought into the parlor which is fabulous! We had to wait 20 mins for our room to be ready which was fine and we were brought to our cottage. The room was clean but there was a old plastic shower cap opened in one of the drawers which made me feel uneasy how clean the rooms were, like steralised clean! We headed to the Brabazon Restaurant the staff there are fantasic and the food was 10/10 it was really magnificent. We headed back to the room and the bed was comfy but the pillows were like bricks. I actually woke up with a creek in my neck which has started to ease two days later. Overall I would definitely go back to the restaurant but i don't think i would stay I felt it was definitely overpriced.

Dear Caroline, Thank you for taking the time to review us, and for choosing to stay at Tankardstown House recently. I am glad you seem to have very much enjoyed most aspects of your stay with us, while also disappointed you had certain grievances. I can assure you all areas of our accommodation are deep cleaned and sanitised by our trained accommodation staff, prior to a guests arrival. This cleaning regime is now more robust than ever, so I am very surprised the cap was missed and can only apologise for this. I do wish you had made us aware of your preference for a softer pillow, while you were with us. We would have happily arranged this for you to ensure your stay was a comfortable as possible. I am thrilled you enjoyed your experience at Brabazon Restaurant and I do hope we will see you again soon. Thank you again for your feedback, and warmest regards, Tadhg Carolan

My partner and I stayed in Tankardstown House on its first evening reopened after closure because of Covid-19. Despite being closed for 3 months, the standard of food and service would almost suggest it hadn't closed at all. We were warmly greeted on check-in by the general manager and escorted to our room. Staff were engaging in social distancing and there were lots of sanitisation stations evident. We stayed in a double room in one of the courtyard cottages which was spotless and comfortable. Dinner in Brabazon Restaurant was outstanding. Service was excellent and staff went above and beyond. Breakfast the following morning was delicious. Can't wait to return.

Just home from the most pleasant and relaxing overnight stay. The Laragh room was bright with dual aspect and a lovely comfortable bed. Dinner in Brabazon was a delight, possibly the best meal we’ve had in our years of dining here, washed down with a lovely Prosecco and some Pinot Noir recommended by Derek the very knowledgable and always friendly maitre d. After-dinner drinks on the terrace before retiring for the evening. Beautiful breakfast the next morning followed by a lovely walk through the grounds and then a delightful coffee break in the sun where Gemma and her team attended to us so well. Tankardstown is relaxing, the surroundings are beautiful, the food is exquisite and the staff are charming and friendly. Treat yourself ...!!
