Rock Farm Slane is set in an idyllic location, close to the town but far enough away that you feel like you're a million miles away. The Bell Tent we stayed in (Dexter) was comfortable but quite rustic. The beds were clean but I was surprised at the number of insects. I know we were "glamping" but there would have been less if we'd slept outdoors! I was travelling with my 7 year old daughter and she couldn't relax because of the large number of insects. The campsite has great facilities - campfires, kitchens with all the equipment you need (fridge, freezer, kettles, plates, cutlery, oven, etc, etc), plenty of storage, a hot tub, a bbq and a pizza oven. Unfortunately the pizza oven isn't sealed properly (it's seen better days) so it doesn't work properly. I wish I'd known that before I'd spent an hour trying to heat it up. Several other campers mentioned they'd had trouble with it too and I ended up cooking the pizzas in a regular oven. Having the pizza ready to make on arrival in the fridge was nice and the quality of the ingredients were good. We also purchased some bits (coffee & jam) from reception. The pool is small but pleasant and it wasn't too cold. The shower facilities are lovely and very clean. There are plenty of toilets too. The setting is beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed exploring the local area and roasting marshmallows over the camp fire. It was a nice experience but I probably wouldn't stay again.

Property's Favourite Review
Visited Rock Farm with my Wife, daughter and two Grandsons for a two night break. We stayed in one of the Yurts and had a fantastic stay. The Yurt was clean comfortable and well equipped and maintained. The facilities were in my opinion excellent. The shared kitchen space was large and well equipped. The shower and was area is good and the toilets are basic but clean and functional. There is a hot tub and pizza oven and sustainability and the environment is obviously a key factor in the farms ethos. I can honestly say that we all enjoyed one of our best family breaks at the farms. My Grandsons particularly enjoyed the swimming pond and walks around the woods. The area is spacious and set in an idyllic and peaceful location. The staff were helpful and clearly care about the farm. It is ideal for a family break and would recommend.

It’s not like the pictures on the website. Although it’s rural and eco friendly id still like to see an acceptable level of cleanliness. The yurts (checked a few) were covered in spiders. Needed to be vacuumed. A very damp smell. The bell tents are only acceptable in the height of summer and maybe for 21 years olds. Not comfortable!! The shared area felt dirty and insanitary. I certainly wouldn’t have cooked food there. There is metal sheets against trees, live electric wires. There is no way a child could be left to run and play. Also a Serious rodent problem. We spotted many rats. I know this is a working farm so hard to control that but it certainly isn’t expected in ‘luxury glamping’. It’s incredibly dark at night, cannot see anything. Lights should be hung. Also the bar/ cafe is totally overpriced. I’m sorry but I wouldn’t stay here again for free

Dear 172erin, We are very sorry that you didn’t enjoy your experience at Rock Farm. Your references to our bar/cafe would indicate that you stayed with us for a friend/family wedding. It also sounds like you may have stayed in our bell tent area which is only available in the height of the Summer (June to August). All the bell tents that are bookable online are fully furnished. However for weddings we are occasionally asked to provide additional bell tents that are not furnished. If this was the case in your stay, it may not have been as comfortable as you would have liked it to be. However if you were not able to tell us about it while you were staying, it is difficult to resolve after the fact. I'm not sure at what stage of your stay you inspected the other yurts and bell tents, but given the weather we have had they may have become damp during the stay with guests coming in and out. We endeavour to keep all our accommodation clean and dry for guest check-ins and are available at all times to address anything that is not to a guest's satisfaction. We have a professional rodent service who constantly monitors the farm and Glamping areas. If guests draw our attention to any unwanted visitors during their stay we can address any issues as required. We take farm safety seriously and that is why the Glamping area is fully fenced for children to play in safely. No stock is kept in the Bell Tent Village area while it is operational and the wires are not live during that season. We have had some improvement work done to the Bell Tent Village area including a new shower and toilet block, which may explain the metal sheets during your stay. This has now all been cleared. Although the wedding couple were very pleased with how the stay went for their whole group, we regret that your stay didn’t live up to your expectations. We would really have liked the opportunity to address any issues on the day and had a full team of staff throughout the event and stay to assist you further. Kind regards, Carina

The beds were good, with plenty of cushions. The shower was very good. Sadly there was a un nice smell in our room probably due to the heavy raining. Missed having a plastic bag in the trash can in our room. However I understand that you are aiming for environmental waste management.

Thank you 974karolinal for your review. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay. Thank you also for the feedback from your stay. Please also remember to give us a call or let us know if anything is missing or needs addressing during your stay. The weather has been challenging this year, but that shouldn't impact on your stay. We check all our rooms and Glamping between stays, but if anything comes up we will address it as quickly as we can.

Absolutely loved our stay at Rock Farm Slane. We rented the entire place for a family reunion of over 80 persons, including the barn and cottages, yurts and glamping site. It was a truly unforgettable experience in such a magical setting. Well equipped with everything we needed for a range of ages from a little baby to over 80s. Wish we could have stayed for longer! The staff were extremely helpful and made us feel welcomed and looked after. Would definitely recommend and hope to visit again in the future.

Hello Climber181393, Thank you for your review and I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. Our team are on site all the time. However you may not see them as the Glamping area is quite extensive. We communicate with guests throughout their stay to check that everything is ok and the bathrooms and toilets may have been cleaned while you were away from that area. However when we are busy and during wet weather, there can be days where they require more attention. So we have placed more staff on to clean during these challenging times. Any of the other items could also have been addressed during your stay, had we been notified. We regret that we didn't have the opportunity to improve your comfort while you were staying with us. Kind regards, Carina

I attended a wedding at Rock Farm. It was a very bare-bones experience, the staff seemed non-existent and the accommodation is overpriced. We stayed in a Bell Tent (a simple tent with some bedding) which cost us roughly the same as it would've cost for us to stay in a Yurt (a furnished, heated tent with electricity). I am not sure how this is at all justified. The venue seems to be aiming for rustic charm but has unfortunately either by poor design or poor maintenance just wound up looking run down. There was very little in the way of clear signage regarding parking/camping save for some small laminated paper signs which had fallen on the ground. The lighting is poor and the roads around the farm are narrow and filled with potholes. Also, there appears to be a live electric fence running near the camping site. This is signposted a lot better than most things around the farm but I'd be a bit concerned about that just being in a place where children and late-night event attendees are going to be wandering about. The wedding itself took place under a canopy with hay bales as the seating. There weren't enough bales for every guest. The bales were quite low to the ground. As they were not covered many guests ended up covered in hay after 30 mins of sitting. It seemed very understaffed and the staff that were there seemed ill-prepared. The post-wedding drinks reception was not at all ready by the time the ceremony ended. There was 2 and a half hour lull between the ceremony and guests being allowed to enter the barn that doubled as the banquet hall. Once in the hall, there was another lull between our starter and mains of about 30 mins. Once food was served it was served less like a wedding meal and more like a Sunday carvery with guests having to line up to be served their meal. The tea and coffee with the dessert was available from burkos on the other side of the barn and this was not very clearly signposted. It seems a bit of a hastily thrown-together cash grab to get money out of middle-class urbanites looking to host a wedding or hen do or festivals goers.

Dear herecomes2, We are very sorry that you didn’t enjoy your experience at Rock Farm. We are a working organic farm as well as being a wedding and event venue with eco-tourism accommodation. Weddings at Rock Farm are outdoors and the couples who book them are looking for an outdoor venue with quirky and original features to make their wedding bespoke and different. As happens with every wedding, we worked closely with the couple themselves and organised the timings, locations and catering according to their wishes, budget and on this particular occasion the weather. Nothing is thrown-together, but we had to make last minute changes on the day to suit the couples needs and therefore there may have been pauses in the service. We will in future ensure that all the strawbale seating is covered for the outdoor ceremony, which may have been missed on this occasion. The couple have told us they had a fantastic weekend as have all the other couples this season despite the challenges with the weather. We are not a hotel and our offering is quite different so it could well contrast with other weddings you have attended. The torrential rain just prior to the event did cause created potholes in our unpaved roadways. We keep the driveway unpaved in keeping with our reduced carbon footprint, and we do our best to keep them in good order. We do very much regret that the day didn’t live up to your expectations and hope this explains the situation a little better. Kind regards, Carina Conyngham

We're a family of five. Three young kids 10, 8 and 5..we had a super time. The yurt was really warm as theres a rad and a stove. Lino flooring and plenty blankets. The kitchen is well equipped and spacious. They could do with a few extra cleaning scourers and tea towels though. Even though we didn't use the showers they looked perfect. Bathrooms are okay. Ran out of blue towels though.

I stayed in one of the Shepherd's Huts with my 6 yo son. With it being early January it was really quiet and we barely saw anyone else, but that wasn't an issue. We were worried a bit about it being cold but the Hut was very cosy. The Shack was a bit cooler, but probably due to being such a big space and lack of people. It was clean, tidy and a great little adventure. Very good value too.
